CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Randy (Jon Lovitz) and his family get more than they bargained for when they decide to stop at the Barbie Museum.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A very loose remake of the classic multi-star comedy It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963), this madcap comedy is directed by Jerry Zucker, one third of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker comedy team and director of Ghost (1990). John Cleese stars as an eccentric casino owner who devises a contest pitting six teams against each other in a race to claim two million dollars from a locker in New Mexico. The competitors are Owen (Cuba Gooding Jr., who ends up driving a bus full of Lucille Ball imitators, a foreigner (Rowan Atkinson) who hitches a ride in an organ donor vehicle, and a recently reunited mother and daughter (Whoopi Goldberg and Lanei Chapman) who anger a "squirrel lady" (Kathy Bates) -- much to their regret. There are also two con artist brothers (Seth Green and Vince Vieluf), the upright Nick (Breckin Meyer), who gets a lift from cute but psychotic pilot Tracy (Amy Smart), and the eccentric Pear family, headed up by Jon Lovitz. Rat Race also stars Dave Thomas, Kathy Najimy, Wayne Knight, Dean Cain, and Paul Rodriguez.

The museum curator was supposed to be one single character, but the producers loved both of these actor's auditions so much, they split it between both of them

I love that- when you have comedy gold of 2 just put it together! ✨

“You’re leaving?”
The way he asks this as if nobody has ever felt the need to leave early hahahaha
He said ten minutes and they stayed for ten minutes. Also you see people just walking in the museum without following the tour.
well at least not before visiting the souvenir shop.
At least it isn’t a gift shop at Auschwitz from a British comedy show called that Mitchell and Webb Look…
They have but they got a free shower.
I almost felt bad for him. He sounded so hurt. XD
I am from Germany and this automatically saluting squeaking soldier mannequin kills me every time 😂😂😂
this movie was soo funny lol
By shooting or a “shower?”
My German friend had me watch this movie with him and I didn’t get why he was waiting and anticipating my reaction until this scene came on. Then I understood. Oh my god we laughed our asses OFF after that. The scenes after are pure comedy good too when he crashes the veterans thing. 😂
God, you Germans have a weird sense of humor 😂

"And three time ballroom dancing champion."

Looking forward to the Barbie movie
My daughter and her friends went tonight to see it. I told them I would only see it if it was about Klaus Barbie. They didn’t have any idea who I was talking about; and they are all college students.

Haha
yes, not literally a barbie movie. it's called Oppenheimmer LOL
Klaus Barbie should have had a cameo in the new Barbie movie - maybe teach Barbie girl some dance moves and how to appreciate fine wine...
and the iconic salute too
And woke HOllywood would burry that movie in two seconds ! )) You can't do that in modern day and age.
"So called 'crimes against humanity...' ". Pure gold.
In Mexico there was a drug lord know as Barbie know i know why...
Hey it's Stephen Miller
Based
He's not wrong tho
What I love about the tour guide is that he never lied nor did he try to deny his crimes, I mean his opening line is "sometimes called the butcher of Lyon".
They wanted to show the other side of him, never denying the fact that he was, in fact, a mass murderer
I love how the dude concerningly asked “You’re leaving?” as if they weren’t doing their best to provide a history behind the museum.
I don’t know why the family was so freaked out in this scene. The Docents of the museum were polite and knowledgeable and the museum was well organized with interesting exhibits on display. They even had a gift shop, how can you top that?
Yeah i know right. Seems like a great exhibit
@@dylancasey1702 I know right?

Lol cuz even tho they were polite they’re honoring and praising a psychopath and his cult followers that caused one of the biggest genocides ever and of course plummeted us into a war
I was working at a prophouse that supplied things for the film. Theyd just gotten a call from the set: they wanted the Hitler parade car to have the correct licence plate! We looked the plate up in a WW2 photo book (pre internet) and called the set. Amazing to think that someone might see a comedy film and suddenly such a small detail is done accurately!
This is Hitlers car…
The face on Jon Lovitz's face will always make me laugh.
His eyes were the size of dinner plates! XD
0:42.
Indeed.
I thought this was a made up character, but then like 3 videos down is a 15 min documentary on the real guy!!
"Three time ballroom dance champion" 😳😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember how we sat in the cinema in 2001 when it premiered in my home country Germany. EVERYONE in the audience got the joke and a tremendous laugh as soon as the tour guide mentioned the name Klaus Barbie with the swastika-flag in the back. Nobody in the cinema felt offended, cause people could relate to the Pear Family in that situation. It is a well edited and well produced scene of a fantastic comedy movie.
I know it relates to the original Stanley Kramer movie "It's a mad, mad, mad world" from 1963, but the Zuckers did the right thing by creating their own movie instead of rebooting the original. I got both movies on DVD and enjoy both of them equally.
This comment made me so happy. Good to know humanity had a sense of humor
@@IGetAround29 there are good sides to us as humans still. Cheers, mate! 😃
Of course you’re not ‘offended’. It’s not yours to be offended anyways.
Unfortunately Rothschilds won the war.
I remember that when I saw this movie in 2001 in the United States, nobody got the joke and we eventually had to leave the theater because a cheeseburger got stuck in the projector.
The Jon Lovitz scenes really outshine everyone elses in this movie.
yeah the movie was a mixed bag but man, i laughed my ass off multiple times.

Epic scene.
Oh wow that happened?!? Thanks man, I COMPLETELY missed that entire scene.
@@hastur-thekinginyellow8115 I wish he would have quoted the rest of the clip because now I only know what happened from his synopsis because I’m unable to retain the rest of the clip without it being explained for me.
@@maliant16 I mean to be fair to OP, the original clip was extremely long, hours on end almost. If he hadn't remained so vigilant and aware I doubt anyone would have ever understood the complexity of the scene and dialogue without him. Truly, a gentleman.
Now I went back and tried to find his reference so I could pinpoint it, but I was only able to surmise that the developers of the film hid this awesome nugget of a scene somewhere between the timestamps of 0:00 and 2:34.
I know it's super difficult to find, but believe me it's definitely in there somewhere. I'm just glad OP pointed it out to be honest, otherwise there's no way I would have caught the scene. Even if I did catch it, I highly doubt I would have even began to be able to comprehend the high art Machiavellian-drama epic plot points that were unfolding right before my eyes without him dissecting and analyzing the scene in TRUE intellectual and critique fashion... the filmmakers just disguised it into the film so well and it all flowed together so seamlessly with the rest of the plot. Truly high art, I say! And only a scholarly gentleman of true intellect such as OP could have unraveled the arcane mysteries of this scene.
A real Barbie!!!
Is that because my family and i were screwed by Once Upon a time title :P it happened 10 years ago

I know jon lovitz was great in this
Lovitz had a lot of awful movies but he seems in his element being a bit actor or supporting role and not the main character.

"It is a small, rootless, international clique that is turning the people against each other, that does not want them to have peace. It is the people who are at home both nowhere and everywhere, who do not have anywhere a soil on which they have grown up, but who live in Berlin today, in Brussels tomorrow, Paris the day after that, and then again in Prague or Vienna or London, and who feel at home everywhere. They are the only ones who can be addressed as international elements, because they conduct their business everywhere, but the people cannot follow them." -AH
Jon Lovitz’s wife in this movie may be best known as the voice of Peggy Hill
She is way more known than just for that lo

Kathy also voices Snot's Mother on American Dad. Remember, Snot is voiced by Booger from Revenge of the Nerds, Curtis Armstrong.
No wonder she's so insufferable.

When I first saw this as a 10 yo, I thought they were so eager to leave because the tour was boring.
I was so young and innocent once.
I was nine and didn't understand it either. A couple of months later after 9/11, my fourth grade teacher taught us about Hitler and the National Socialists and the Holocaust. Then I eventually pieced together this scene.
Same here, but I thought that they left because it was 10 minutes and he said 10 minutes.
