Lucy was used as a tool in this arc so that other characters like Natsu, Erza, and Laxus have the reason to avenge her and shine by themselves. She even wasn't given a chance to redeem herself in the tournament. Lucy was indeed done dirty in this arc.

I'm still angry about this til this day. Lucy really deserved to win. I was crying when she was crying
I can understand why Hiro Mashima did it... but in his position I would have had the pumpkin make an official announcement at a certain point later in the series that after a certain incident they re-examined recordings, discovered Flair taking Asuka hostage (they wouldn't see Obra's cheating on a recording) and thus retroactively give the points to Fairy Tail. Or even if they don't turn over the points, just having the public announcement that Lucy lost only due to cheating to the entire audience would make me feel a lot better.

Yajima is pretty friendly with Fairy Tail given how so many of them work at his restaurant. So seeing Lucy being put through all of that definitely would have incensed him.
They did lucy so dirty this arc 😭 but it really gave the guild a reason to go off later on 🤌🏾

This is why I have a love and hate relationship with this arc, Lucy was done dirty all through out.
I still feel salty that Lucy wasn't given the chance to shine yet again like look at what she is doing with just that little training..and it cannot even be compared to the others coz they ahve been doing this stuff since childhood but she only started recently and when she finally got training, she is doing so well and yeah plot device like let her win something 🥲

This was probably one of the most frustrating episodes of any anime I have ever watched. Well the episode with Minerva was even worse when I think of it.
How bad did they do Lucy dirty?
The Divine 88 Stars spell is only given to a celestial wizard who has multiple zodiac gate keys. This spell alone is on par with the 3 Grand Fairy spells. Lucy is the only one who can basically summon the Celestial Spirit King. This spell would automatically make Lucy a wizard Saint. That's how bad they cheated her in this arc.
As painful this was... it's so satisfying when fairy tail gets payback fight.
But many people don't understand that. They are saying mashima did lucy dirty! They don't have the brains to think that if Lucy won this match, then the paybacks won't be that satisfying.
This and last episode has done dirty to fairy tail performance in the games. However, this will further more of their reputations as the lowest underdog contenders among the guilds.
I will never ever forget how the this episode were supposed to be the shinning moment of Lucy and they did her dirty!!!!!!
Grand magic games is a wild ride. It is still my favorite arc.

I see what they were trying to do by throwing Lucy under the bus in this arc, but that doesn't mean it was the best choice. Lucy has a place in many people's hearts as the heart/spirit of the fairy tail guild, so destroying her will get ANYONE mad. In the moment, this made me hate Raven Tail to the bone and anyone else who stood in the guild's way, but as a rewatch this really wasn't great
How Villain circulation in FT works :
1. Before fight againts Fairy Tail they are super strong and serious
2. After Fairy Tail beat them they cross to the good side and became weaker than ever
But i still love the story (and the booba) tho 👍🏻

Finally this episode...yeah i know how you were feeling.. I've been pissing off this episode for yearss ... Lucy always gets dirty and not to be able to show her true potential... This arc is so long, Lucy is the MC for this character, She'll get dirty in the upcoming episode for a few times but at the end of this arc she'll save the world...
And u see how smart she is, to be able to come up with an idea of using a clone of herself from Gemini to increase her magic power in order to chant the Ultimate Spell of The Star, she is so smart since the early of the story..and in the future you will see how she use her brain to overcome her weakness and save her friends and also the entire world
This is an extra information for you.. In Fairy Tail there is two classification of magic: Caster magic and Holder magic.. Caster magic is Magic that is expelled from the body as opposed to Magic done through the use of a weapon or outside source. Meanwhile Holder type is Magic that requires a Mage to use an external source to produce the Magic. It usually requires the use of Magic Power, ... Lucy's magic (celestial spirit magic) is Holder type as she uses the Keys to summoning magic of her spirits... But the ultimate spell of star she did in this episode is Caster type as she expelled the magic from her body....
Jellal and Lucy have the same family magic... Lucy is celestial spirit magic that means she can control the star magic of constellation.. Jellal's magic is Heavenly Body, Heavenly Body means everything contained in the galaxy such as (moon,sun, gravity, blackhole, fire, ice, black hole, star etc) that's why he can use star magic spell too like Grand Chariot (he has more that we'll see in the future but i don't remember the names) ..but Jellal's star magic is not same with Lucy as he can control the stars that are not a part of constellation..in a simple word, Celestial Spirit Magic (constellation) is a derivation from Star Magic Spell that Jellal wields..For Jellal to be able to use Urano Metria he needs to have a contract with any spirits to obtain the celestial spirit magic... We also can see from the incantation of Urano Metria itself that had mentioned about 88 stars of the heavens which stands for 88 constellations that can be found until now... And also it has mentioned Tetrabiblos.. it's actually a title of a book about astrology written by Ptolemy... Now we know how powerful constellation magic is that's why it has incantation before it can be expelled... I just hope we Lucy will learn from Jellal some spell from Heavenly Body ahh

I am angry as well for Lucy, but for all the people in the comment section, she wasn’t done dirty. She showcased her strength but also her weakness, which has always been consistent: her magic stamina and her kindness. The only reason she lost was because they used Asuka against her and cheated. She impressed everyone, showed how good and powerful she was but it’s realistic. Lucy had just become a full fledge wizard when she joined Fairy Tail and less than a year later she went on a magical coma, stuck in time, for seven years. Her growth is realistic, even with second origin. All the other wizards were stronger than her before, so it’s logical that even if she is strong she is nest as strong. The entire first half of the arc was them being the underdogs and progressively showing that they are not, yes even against Minerva

I f**king hate how they treat Lucy in this whole arc. She was the worse treated character here and she deserved much more with her new ability. Without NaLu moments I'd be so mad. Then it would be Juvia because she's strong and could be even S-rank but they didn't show here her real potential. But I love Erza and Laxus here, they are awesome.
Ofcourse Mashima did that to annoy us. Lucy could've auto win with Cancer (he even uses less amount of MP so he can stay for too long) but nope, author decided not to. I was so frustrated with it. Lucy using Urano metria on her own was really awesome but Raventail cheated again. I cannot.

I don't know why people cry "they did lucy diry". Imagine if Lucy won in this fight, people will never hate the losers "Raven Tail". This is to make people hate Raven tail so that if we win against the team we hate, it will feel good. If we didn't really cared about raven tail, the upcoming fights will be bland.
Most people aren't pissed about this game, but about the one against Minerva. She didn't even defend herself during this fight when we know that certain spirits (loki, virgo) are able to come without her having her keys. Why didn't they at least come to defend her? I'm sure she would have lost the match even with all her abilities but the fact that she didn't do anything during her fight against Minerva is just ridiculous.

Imagine if Loki came himself and defeated Minerva, then that means Minerva is not at all powerful. Lucy Vs Minerva's fight was to make people hate Minevrva and they succeeded in it. And that's what made the tripple fight between Erza vs Minerva vs Kagura so awesome.
If loki & Virgo came and defended her, then we will not hate Minerva as we did. Also, by looking at the current power of Lucy, if Loki and Virgo defended Minerva's attacks, then Mineva continued to fight Erza & Kagura. It will mess up the power scaling. And people will start to cry "plot armour".

I'm just saying that her passivity during the fight was totally illogical considering that Lucy isn't that bad and she could still try to fight back a little even if Minerva was much more powerful, then back to Minerva, everyone would have hated her after a while given that she returns many times as an antagonist.

For 1st timers that either watched or read this arc for 1st time will definitely feel its unfair to fairy tail. I felt it too and the payout would be truly glorious.
A lot of people make the mistake of not watching fairy tail zero after this arc. It's important to understand the plot of the next 2 arcs. Please watch it or in 2 arcs you will be confused, it's like skipping flashbacks in one piece.
While Lucy never got the chance to have her winning moment and exit the competition after being tortured, Hiro was so busy planning how will the rest of the FT members will get their own spotlight and redemption moment.
Only grey get their own redemption moment. Juvia also lost and never got her redemption movement. And lucy is weak right now. Who was she going to defeat to get redemption? Writing a story with a lot of charecters is hard. Usually, a story only focus on the main charecter. FT focuses on a lot of charecters and still people complain about things like this.

Also people barely remember that she got a point on Naval Battle why? because it was overshadowed by Minerva's evilness and the only thing that majority of the viewer remember was her being tortured. And after that what happened next? Lucy has to step out and never got the chance to redeem her glory. That scenario itself shows injustice to her character. Do you get the point?
You can't blame her fans if they were still complaining up into this day, not when they know that their fav character was once used as a sacrificial lamb and never benefit from it.

Lucy was not at the crowning moment because there was more important things going on with the arc. Infact, the entire second part of the arc was about two Lucy and she is the one that saves everyone by closing the gate.
Lucy winning against any of the enemy final characters will be plot armor. All the enimy characters in the end are extremely stong. Already fairy tail suffers from a lot of plot armour allegations. So "Reddeming: here "glory" is imposiible. Fanboys really make people blind.

@@giovanioclarit9499 I was also talking about the whole GMG arc/ Lucy never won becuase she is not stong at this point in the anime. Accept it instead of becoming a blind fan. Lucy winning against any final enemies will be labbeled as "plot armor" as most of the final enemies are extremely stong. And no one support giving lucy plot armour at the expense of other characters.
There are Lucy fans who are even talking about Erza losing Pandemonium, Nastu losing to Sting & Rouge, etc. Eventhough Lucy didn't win in GMG, she got enough chances to shine in this arc itself by saving the entire humanity later. Lucy is also the only charecter who has overtaken a lot of characters later and become stronger than them by the end. No other character was given that chance. So lucy fans need to stop crying in GMG arc.

If Lucy won this match, then we will never take Raven Tail as a good opponent and see them as some nobodies. So the later matches will feel unimportant and those episodes will feel bland.
If you want people to get a satisfying revenge story, you have to make the audience hate the bad guys.

People are mad because Lucy was barely given a fight in this series and yet the author chose to ruin her moment to shine and use her as a driving force to make Fairytail hate Raven Tail more.
Even cheating in one way by itself wasn't enough to get Lucy, they had to cheat in two different ways!
Ironically I'm most upset with Yajima. Raven Tail are the bad guys, they are supposed to be hateable, but Yajima definitely noticed the cheating and didn't say anything. As a former member of the magic council people would believe him if he spoke out and yet he only looked angry without saying anything. Fuck him!
it'd be easy for Yajima to just say Lucy was cheated, but if he has no idea how and can't substantiate how Raven Tail did it, who will believe him? he'd only sound delusional and ultra-biased, especially with his rep on being an advocate of Fairy Tail in his (Yajima's) days a s a Magic Council member, not to mention that Yajima also was previously a Fairy Tail member.
or he could say that after Laxus proves they are cheating, they should give Lucy her points even after that. It doesn't matter in the end but it'd be fair.
@@dramalover644 while Lucy showcased her mastery, the ultimate effect of her Urano Metria at that point remains unknown. we only see Flare overwhelmed, but we cannot be sure if Lucy's Urano Metria would actually be enough to render Flare unable to continue that fight, as the win point requires. it could even protract up to the time limit into a draw; or Flare might have other tricks up her sleeve that could've still made her win. any of those endgame scenario (had Lucy's magic were not dispelled) were still possible; thus, it is not enough basis to reward Lucy back with a win point even if Raven Tail's cheating with Dispel magic is recognized.

There's 2 movies
Phoenix Priestess (2012) - Right before or after the infinity clock arc should be a good time to watch it Ep. 125 or 150
Dragon Cry (2017) - Watch after the Avatar Arc Ep. 284
...then there's 100 Year quest which comes after everything. Confirmed to be animated but we don't know when yet. As you can see the release dates were bad and that's indirectly part of the reason Fairytail gets hate.

I understand Fairy Tail is going for a win so Natsu just let Lucy continue to fight, that's also giving respect to Lucy's effort and not letting it go to waste. there's actually no guarantee that Lucy will even be declared a winner even if the cheating is revealed. their match could even be declared forfeit due to the cheating, a new match up may be drawn, and Lucy will be at a disadvantage then if she get's picked up in the next immediate match (i.e., opponent now has a gauge of her capability + Lucy's physical and magic reserves were no longer 100%)
