There's just no excuse not to, and Bernie's excuse was weak and stupid beyond belief. His excuse for not calling for a ceasefire was that Hamas is just too violent and can't be trusted, ignoring the fact that Israel killed 95% civilians as opposed to hamas's 45% civilians, has broken ceasefire after ceasefire, is currently still taking more hostages as they get some of theirs back, free some Palestinians and then immediately take more political prisoners while simply slaughtering people with reckless abandon, in a genocide. Also Israel is infamous for it's nostop torrent of lies, and if Bernie was at all interested in a balanced view of the situation, he would have recognized that Israel is less trustworthy than any other party, and you don't wait till all parties are squeaky clean before calling for a cessation of the slaughter. The whole point is the parties don't trust each other, but a ceasefire is designed to at least reduce the number of people being killed, and Bernie can't even find the courage to say "end the bombing, and end the brutal invasion NOW!
It's hard to call yourself progressive when you aren't willing to stop a genocide because you're busy blaming the wrong side.
