“If we bring back *beloved 2 door v8 muscle car* it’ll have to be a 4 door EV”
Honestly, give it a different name at that point.
"Ok, we'll call it the Corvette" - GM
@@androiduberalles Which, the word on the street is, is a possibility. I heard they want Corvette to be a brand, a line of cars...
GM dare bring shame to the camaro name!? Electric?? Nothing electric should be named camaro
Pretty sure nothing can bring anymore shame to the Camaro name than the "Iron Duke". Lest we forget, all pony cars have had their fair share of lackluster models and generations throughout the ages. People act as though the only pony car ever sold had a massively powerful V8.
Agreed, though I do agree that it needs a usable back seat like a Challenger. The Corvette is the GM two door track monster. The Camaro should just be an h shift V8 2+2 fun car like the Mustang embraced.
The best Idea for a Camaro would be a basic affordable V8 pony car. Not one chasing Corvette numbers and price.
Kinda what the first Mustangs and Camaros were.
Four-door electric Camaro? What is this world coming to.
Barely anybody below 40 us buying new cars. They produce, what people is buying.
If the Camaro comes back as a different car, they can keep it👎🚫 (Not EV)
Hard pass on EVs
I like ev. Then again I like immediate power too that ice just can’t bring.
@@takforce06you just haven’t driven the right ice car. Any 500-600hp car with the right tires can hang with most ev minus the plaid. But that’s also a $120k car

They need new management.
4 door Camaro? You mean the Blazer?
GM management needs removed. I thought Mark was going to keep it the way it should be.
It shouldn’t come back if that’s what they want to do.
Talk to anyone at corporate Mercedes’ or bmw and ask how electric is doing. Short answer - horrible. Tesla sales are down as well. EVs are not the answer despite their “market share”
EV sales are doing ok overall if look at numbers. Why companies are still developing them. News flash, right now ICE cars aren’t doing that great either. Lot of people aren’t buying cars at the moment. Given current state of the economy.
*_Fire_* the President of General Motors!
_"If I had my way, I'd make it [Camaro] electric."_ *~Mark Reuss, GM President*
He doesn't just stop there at electric, folks. Oh no, he has to go even further by suggesting it would be a four door coupe with even larger dimensions than the predecessor. Claiming that it will harken back to its pony car roots is complete nonsense.
People *love* big horsepower! The Camaro had everything from your standard N/A V8 SS and SS 1LE to the supercharged beast known as the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. The 1LE's obviously being the more track focused variants. More importantly, the Camaro still offered a front-engine, RWD, V8 with a *_STANDARD_* transmission. There was _literally_ a Camaro for everyone!
Indeed, Mr. Reuss needs to be terminated from his employment at GM once and for all. It is people like him that are collectively ruining the automotive industry. Executives of the Board, CEOs and Presidents of the Automotive world are completely out of touch with consumers. They are not car enthusiasts. Their focus is profit - not pleasure.
_"I couldn't find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself."_ *~Ferdinand Porsche*
Sad to see the departure of the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio models. FWIW, I/we have been considering the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio in Verde Montreal Green as an upgrade to our current sports sedan for quite some time now. In fact, the Alfa QV is the _only_ sports sedan we would consider and are still considering for that matter.
Although, to be perfectly honest, I do not like the impetus placed upon us with this sudden departure. I would rather purchase a new car based on desire, excitement and admiration. Impulse purchases are simply not pragmatic and can often create even more problems. Thereby robbing you of the pleasure from your new acquisition.
Alas, some things just never seem to coalesce no matter how hard you try. Case in point - your Bullitt and my '68 Restomod but I digress. [sniffle]
Nevertheless, a tremendous 'thank you' Matt for _your_ continued support and dedication to the automotive community. Your contributions do not go unnoticed, brother.
Stay classy my friend.
I was literally screaming with everything you said about the Camaro. Don’t even bring it back if you’re going to make it like the Mach E
If it's a GM ad for that Pontiac then I don't know what the heck it is not sounds more to me like the trans Am depot that's going to use a new chassis since the old ones going away not a big fan of trans Am depot from any personal reasons but I do like the trans Am especially my '77 smoke in the bandit TA
Phew, I was worried this wasn’t coming out today.
Sorry it was late!
While nothing is set in stone when it comes to the Camaro but this video are cool.@@MattMaranMotoring
Thanks for the weekly news!!! Love it!!
GM just needs to keep the Camaro a 2 door coupe and not make it a 4 door crossover. We all know a V8 will be no more, but just keep it a coupe. Matt thank you for this update. I did not hear this.
Thanks for watching Kyle!
On Location Matt is Best Matt!
I'm down for a hybrid 911 if it's an e awd system for the front axel and a na flat six with an mguk for the rear axel. Awd for practicality with the ability to shut off the front end for skids.
Thanks Matt for still doing the weekly car news, you covered a lot of different brands and topics today. I still want to know what that Pontiac advertisement is really about? As you know I am very diversified I love the big American cars, but also love the Japanese cars. I love my Lincoln Continental , my various Subaru's and Suzuki Kizashi and my old 1998 Chevy Pick up 4x4 Truck, but my first real car that I bought for senior year of High School was my 1995 Pontiac Bonneville and it was one of my favorite "Sport" Sedans, but it was really nice, super reliable. I wish Pontiac never went away. the 3800 V6 was so good and even the transmission both were original went over 300,000 miles.
Thanks for watching man!
Hi Matt, great info…thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Best part of Friday evenings starts here. Thanks for all you do Matt you the best!
Thanks for watching man!
I just had a chance to move an equinox, very impressed with the looks.
Great idea for the Camaro except not EV keep that low cost fun to drive dynamic and put it in a gasoline powered vehicle that's highly tunable.
Newsflash, nobody cares about the backseat in a Camaro. The issue was the price with options were way too high. The Challenger and Mustang had a lot of cheap versions. And I do mean cheap .
Great update! Thanks Matt!
Thanks for watching!
@MattMaran I don't agree that Honda doubling down on EV's is refreshing - IMO this shift in the manufacturer developments are the reason less people watch your channel (boring EVs and SUVs instead of enthusiast cars).
I second that.
Rotary phev from the mx-30 into the new cx-5? Using the older platform to offset the cost of the new range extender rotary?
Hope GM try putting in simulated gears and artificial engine note like hyundai and dodge.
I'm betting the new Camaro will be either a hybrid and/or a new performance EV (to compete with the Charger EV). It'd be nice to see maybe a V8 hybrid Camaro. I just don't think you'll see a straight new brand new Chevy Camaro SS with a strictly V8 engine in it.
Mopar has the right idea making the two door and four door on the same platform. Options is the game for consumers and auto makers profit margin.
Welcome back to Detroit. I am guessing maybe you're filming the Silverado EV at the Factory Zero plant. Since I am about a min away, i always see a couple being moved around when i pass by including the Sierras and Hummers
Honestly, I wouldn't be too shocked to see GM come out with an EV Camaro that follows along with the "lifted sedan" trend we've seen out of brands like Polestar. I've seen a render online of an EV Camaro with a hatch and suicide rear doors ala Ferrari Purosangue, and I have to say something like that would sell.
Honestly, Chevy should have made the 6th gen Camaro more of a GT car anyway. They already have a high performance car in their lineup, which is the Corvette. They could have thrown in the Buick Avista concept platform where there were no B-pillars. That would have opened up the cabin quite a bit. Lengthen the platform another 3 or 5 inches to accommodate a few more inches in the backseat. Also should have implemented a sportback hatch instead of keeping the almost unusable trunk. Sure it's not going to be chasing performance numbers like the Mustang. But it will be competing with the Challenger in terms of size and accommodations. Instead of driving a tank (outward visibility-wise) you'd be driving a car that's relativity quick that can fit a few friends or even your child for an hour.
I'm in the opinion of differentiating the Camaro and the Corvette. The Camaro was already riding on a Cadillac platform. Why not throw in Cadillac engines? The 2.0t, 3.0tt, and the 3.6tt would have made great engine options. All could be paired with AWD as an option. Will it be the Camaro of yore? No, but it could have stayed alive long enough to be selling today. Because it would have appealed to today's audience rather than appealing to yester-years audience. One's who want a sportscar but it's easier for them to get in and out of SUV's and CUV's.
They marketed the Camaro to the audience who could afford them but preferred SUV's and CUV's. The Porsche Boxter has a higher price yet a younger audience. Chevy should have aimed at an audience around 25 to 35 years of age. Made the car around $27k to $47k max. Build a culture with the new generation so that they can keep buyers for generations instead of keeping buyers who are getting ready to retire.
My guess: Camaro becomes a Mach E competitor, GM Pontiac Firebird is the new "real Camaro".
Great update.
Have they not learned that Evs arent selling?
Over 3 million EVs were sold in just the first quarter of this year globally, and they’re expected to hit 10% of the U.S. market share this year.
EV's are selling great. I'm not sure where this info is coming from. I work at a car dealer and about 40% of our sales across all our vehicles are EV's. The gas stuff isn't moving anywhere near as well as it used to.
Lol, EVs are still growing strong, just not as fast growing lately, did you hear that Mode Y surpasses RAV4 in terms of sales numbers?
Where tf are yall getting this info? Nobody is at charging stations in major cities. Foh with that agenda
I guess people don't realize EV sales are down
They’re still growing market share…the sales numbers are out there, it’s not hard…
Fucccc a ev
I saw conflicting numbers for 2023
@@MattMaranMotoring So that is why Tesla laid off 10% of their work force?
The difference in lap time Porsche is refering to is related to the 911 Carrera 4S (992).
Polestar 4 is assembled in South Korea. Its safe. They will probably shift P2 assembly to Korea. For the Camaro, they should just let the nameplate die and give their new EV a new name.
I recently watched some videos on the coming sodium battery technology that can fully charge faster than filling your gas tank. Toyota's solid state technology will be a game changer also. These new batteries will cure the problems with the lithium technology. The fires, poor reliability and especially the way they pollute the environment like contaminating the drinking water where are they mine for lithium. In the not to distant future lithium powered ev's will be worthless.
There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the Pontiac ad guys Hahhah, it’s not coming back
The disclaimer is a way to manage expectations and test the waters.
as long as there are lawyers there will be disclaimers....
I would have bought a ZL-1 but I hate plastic fabric on the seats and everywhere. It causes static and absorbs sweat and odors. There was no option for a fully leather interior.
Yes there was. They dont only have alcantara seats. Plus you could have just bought SS leather seats and placed them your zl1
@@Inferno45 No. The ZL-1 had plastic fabric fake suede only, not only that, it was on the steering wheel and looks nasty after a few years. I'll never buy a car and then have re-buy the seats from another model, that is not doable in the real world.
As a previous owner of a 2024 SS1LE, I wouldn't own a general motors built vehicle if it was thrown at me for free! The most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned in my life, and I've owned a lot of vehicles. Good job Matt on this video. I applaud President Biden's decision on the heavy Chinese tariffs. How many GM automobiles will be cancelled, because of the Chinese tariffs? I like the look of the new KIA EV6. Very sharp looking for a small electric SUV. Regarding Subaru and Toyota's joint venture for EVs, Subaru would go for the hybrid versions, much like Toyota has been doing. That's great! Again, infrastructure is important for the EV thing, so hybrid is the way right now. EVs and HONDA...yes, good for the research and development on Honda. Regarding MAZDA....I bet the hybrid version of the CX5 would be great. I just wish that MAZDA would correct the injection system on their engines, utilizing added port-injection to keep things clean in the intake tracts, like Toyota does. Great video Matt!
BS
@@bob-qi4nr Sorry Bobbigirl, its not BS, its a fact.
@@seethingsclearlyawaken3424 You are full of crap.
GM shouldn't try to reinvent the wheel. If Dodge is successful with the new Charger. Just copy them and do the same with the new Camaro lineup.
I would love to see a lightweight 4 cylinder version and then a more powerful hybrid version. I hate to see it drop the V8 but they can really make something cool here.
Earth dream sounds like a copyright in Bridgman in the making…lol
Jim farley said there will never be an all electric mustang. But they will tap into hybird power.
have a great weekend Matt sorry i if i didn't post a comment like i usually do because i wasn't signed into CZcams when i was watching the video Friday btw have anything fun planned for this weekend? also btw i am currently on a summer break/vacation from work finally which means more sleep/sleeping for me watching sports/TV with my buddy watching a lot of CZcams Videos and i am going to finally be able to get a much needed haircut tomorrow/Monday
Lotus just cant catch a break lol
What exactly you talking about? All ev!? Except emira!
I’m a Honda/Acura fan, I really can’t wait for the new gen RDX EV, I hope they will introduce it next year, so I can finally trade in my 2019 Pilot for a perfect premium Acura compact EV SUV, I don’t need the size of 3 row.
If they made the new Camaro similar to the ioniq 5 N cool tricks that would make it more interesting
I guess that would be ok.
Earth Dream⁉️why do I feel like I saw the name before?
A 4 door camaro may go down the drain, But I'd still possibly be interested If they keep it Fast. Anything under may not be worth it for me.
Biggest thing that 100% Chinese EV Tariff does for me is possibly kill any idea of the 2025+ Mini Cooper electric coming here, which frankly looked superior to the 2024 Fiat 500e, which is 2020 technology tarted up with a new infotainment screen. One less good small EV, shame.
Is it built in China? I didn’t remember that.
@@MattMaranMotoring apparently they started the new generation with China production, but they're also going to resume producing it in the U.K. as well in the next year or so. So presumably U.K. ones should arrive here.
Imagine “ sorry bro can’t Race tonight, need to save batteries to drive home “ 😅
Getting major "Blazer" vibes from the Camaro news. Could see it being more of a GT than a GT 4 door mini coupe CUV EV whatever they want to call it.
Now a Trans Am comeback would be INSANE.
90 grand for an Alfa Romeo is pretty nuts.
I don't mind it being an EV. I do mind it not being a 2 door coupe that's focused on sporty driving.
To be fair, GM has shown time and again that they can make great handling sedans. A Chevy EV sports sedan could give the Taycan a run for its money.
Speaking of E.Vs. how do we expect to sustain a constant flow of new cars every year? We need to pump out millions of cars each and every year.
They’ve planned for that, they’ll have the battery supply.
They can’t keep up with production. They couldn’t even consistently make ps5s 😂
The entire auto industry has been unsustainable for decades. The best option is to reduce car dependency so that we won't have to replace all 1.3 billion (Jesus, that's a high number) ICE vehicles on the road today.
What about the buzz for a all new Toyota Celica ?
Haven’t heard any new Celica rumors.
Ik the ad has a disclaimer as being not real:
Hypothetically speaking, kn my mind - since we're seeing chevy make a huge shift to most of their cars being EV, it would be cool to see Pontiac come back and be the muscle of GM again. Pontiac used to he called the "excitement division", would be epic to see gm smack back with Pontiac, and having a lot of big power or fun ice sports cars and sedans.
Maybe the ev movement by gm is to appease the epa, and then could use Pontiac as an outlet for the big muscle and v8s and all that.
Just a hypothetical and wishful thinking lol. Ai art and seeing what a modern firebird, solstice, gto, g8, etc. Makes one wish lmao
Our parents had the best generation of cars.. This generation sucks...
I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla Lobbied for that Tariff.
Don't know why, Tesla only sells expensive vehicles.
EV four door camaro... look at how they massacred my boy.
nice!
If GM ever decides to bring back the Camaro, it has to be gas or Hybrid, and NOT EV.
So a Camaro in name only.
RAM or Dodge CEO just retired/is about to Stellantis is gonna run them into the ground. 😂
That EV six is not good looking anymore! They took it a step backward in the looks department!🤪
It’s not a good looking EV in the first place.
Definitely had a minimal budget for this refresh. At least it carries some of the new design language, though we'll have to wait for the next generation for it to become less rounded and more angular like the rest of the "EV" lineup.
I was hoping to see Camaro come back in hybrid form. With the success of Trax, I think a performance version of that could be interesting and affordable too....
Cars like the Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, etc., exist because of the appeal and heritage of the V8 RWD setup. Remove these ingredients, and what's left is a standard modern car using faux branding. Muscle car enthusiasts aren't ignorant of auto manufacturers' use of this deceptive strategy. I'd rather see them retire the name and make something new.
Sorry but oh my gosh this concept of new Camaro wants me to go puke!!! For God sake don't call this a Camaro. Time to get a new president...
The car and driver thing was a april fools thing..
The EV change is coming fast, too quickly, and is going to do a lot of damage to car companies, which affects tens of thousands of families that lose their jobs in the name of sustainability. This is like the 70's and 80's when the engines were still the same size, a 460ci making 150 hp, and then the market correcting and better engineering got us mcuh better engines with higher power and milage. If the environment was their focus, there are engine patents out there that give us crazy high milage, but somehow those people got 'taken out'. V8s will be back, give it 10-15 years. In that time I'll still drive my fun ICE vehicles, as long as there are gas pumps!
It’s so funny the DIFFERENT mentalities of people. In L.A., almost EVERYONE I know has an EV (countless Teslas, even a Cybertruck, electric BMWs, Mercedes, Ford Mach Es, Porsche Taycans, etc)…..but for people I know in Montana (hometown state) NO ONE has an EV due to their fear of something different, NEW, hell, they STILL think Teslas are FOREIGN cars!! 🤷🏼♂️🤔😂. #FLYOVER STATES. 🤔😂
I bet most people are not gonna go for an electric Camaro. Look what’s happening at Dodge…
No no no on the Camaro
I'm surprised how well the CX-5 is doing in terms of sales. Mazda's always been an off the wall company. I'd go as far to say that they're the Japanese version of SAAB
LOL how dare you 😂 They are nothing like SAAB in any way... in fact - they are almost the opposite. They have lead the way in both quality and design at an affordable price since 'at least' 2005... how that relates to SAAB in any way I have no idea. I am not from the US so maybe you guys don't get the good stuff (I don't know but searching for a reason for your comment to make sense 😅)
The Chinese EV thing is such a disaster. We need competition so so badly in the US. And they just pulled the rug out of the good alternatives that are on sale elsewhere.
Two door coupes are going out of style. The four-door sport sedan, family friendly car that Dad can enjoy and still haul the kids.
Wunderbar! Another Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with a lot of fantastic topics again. Wishing everybody here a great day and a easy weekend ahead, Enjoy the News!
The market does NOT want EVs !!!! We want V8 powered vehicles !!!
Then buy a used one and keep it for life. Plenty of SS 1LEs and ZL1s just waiting for ya.
Battery porsche sucks
Read the reviews, it's awesome!
LeTs GeT tHe CaMaRo BaCk To ITs RoOts. Makes it a 4 door EV
Hopefully he doesn't win out
Sounds like GM should immediately dismiss Mark. May Elon is looking for an a dreamer like Mark.
No way I would buy a EV Camaro.
a 4 door camaro..... so an suv
If they made an EV version of a Ferrari Purosangue with Camaro styling, that would be pretty sick IMO. Imagine a Camaro that you can actually put 4 people in without making the rear passengers feel like you hate them.
I don’t agree with Biden on much but Chinese tariffs are a good thing.
Like Dodge, GMs mission is suicide. They're not going to build what people want, and they're never going to build a quality vehicle.
🙂👍
Camaro that's low-horse-power and 4-door? Yet another "let's use the old name for a different car" shenanigan.
So basically he wants to bring back the Camaro but make it as different from the original as possible. This isn’t promising at all. Who wins with a nameplate that has nothing in common with its history? A bloated mass appeal 4 door isn’t a Camaro. That’s a Malibu. Camaro failed because GM gave up on it. Instead of innovating and building/marketing the car to actually best the Mustang they just phoned it in until the execs decided to kill it. Mustang is successful because Ford has always prioritized it and hasn’t forgotten what the car is about. GM never truly committed to the Camaro in the 21st century. I’m saying this as a former Camaro owner who still loves the car. Needless to say, I’m not happy with the direction the industry is headed. Soon we’ll all be driving emotionless cellphones on wheels.
Oh man that sounds nothing like what a Camaro is supposed to be. If they can’t keep to what made it great, I’d rather it stay dead honestly
They need to bring back the Iron Duke. Make Camaro Great Again! But honestly, if GM offered you an AWD, quad motor Camaro with over 1000hp, a 0-60 times of 2 seconds that gets 100MPGe and has space to carry you and 3 friends, you're gonna turn that down for what? Some sounds? Vibrations? Hell, they can just improve on what Hyundai did and simulate a DCT and engine noises to the point that you can't tell the difference.
matt evs are junk
Sounds like the new Camaro will be Chevy's version of the Mach E Mustang. Please, NO!!! I'm going to be sick...
EV's = no sale for this ICE fan.
A couch? They are really trying to buy a good review. Be sure to remind Chevy with fiat brands dying and ford killing their most loved models to push evs no one wants, Chevy really is the last hope for people trying to buy American so don’t do stupid stuff like removing CarPlay or forgetting why many Chevy models have a cult following
Nobody wants a camero that's not a camero. And I've said this many times that I will never buy an EV. Gm is being destroyed by very stupid people.
Better the Camaro stays dead than bring it back as a sedan
Four-door electric Camaro SUV is the dumbest freaking thing I’ve ever heard in my life. That’s just dumb as an electric Dodge Charger. Maoist struggle sessions
He talk STRONG asf wit his hands. Fun fact
Ew.. a 4 door electric Camaro? 🤮
