    Hi Elaine, great video and very informative. I’m thinking of doing the same to ours as it’s an old conservatory and really I don’t want to be spending a fortune putting a roof on as it would be a bit like turd polishing😂, and also because in time I’d like to build a proper extension, so it’be a real waste to do that then pull it all down in 4 or 5 years time. This looks like a happy medium that will let us use the conservatory a lot more. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Hi Elayne, are there any measures in place to prevent damp between the polycarbonate roof and the insulation boards? I really like your idea and would like to do the same but I am concerned about damp. By the way, it's looks great. You sound very local to me 😊

    • @silvermoonlightuk
      @silvermoonlightuk  Před rokem

      Hi Rob, we sealed all the roof panels where they meet the 'rafters' with silicone sealant to prevent any external water ingress and made sure everything was completely dry before we started installing the insulation boards. We used silver tape to seal every join and then put up plaster board then skimmed over the top. It's still doing ok 2+ years later 😊. I posted the video after it had gone through all seasons. I have to say it's one of the best things we've done. We prefer to use it as our living room now whilst we couldn't use it in the winter at all before. I'm in Sunderland hunni x

      Thank you so much 💕. Hes self taught just through reading and watching over the years and he just has a go at it. We did a side extension on the house and a loft conversion a few years ago and did quite a bit of the work ourselves. I was thinking of compiling a video on that if anyone was interested. I'll pass your compliment onto David. He will be chuffed 😊. Thank you for watching hunni. Have a great day xxx

    Hi what insulation did you use? Have you got a link? I thought u use superquilt ? Then baton again the plasterboard and plaster

    • @silvermoonlightuk
      @silvermoonlightuk  Před rokem +1

      Hi there you can do it like that but it's not as warm. We used insulation boards 75 mm thick . They go by the name kingspan, celotex, thermotex and are available from places like b and q , wickes but are mostly cheaper from builders merchants such as builbase. The wood we used was 3x2 stud timber. Hope this helps 😊

    Hi have you taken off the plastic from the rafters and nailed the batons on aluminium ?

    • @silvermoonlightuk
      @silvermoonlightuk  Před rokem

      Yes we took the plastic trims off but we made the timber frame freestanding as we intend to put an external roof on at a later date. I explain it all in the video 😊

    Hello there, just seen the video cracking job you have done. Hate to ask but I have same size conservatory and was wondering how much it cost you to do this. And has it made a big difference in heat? Many thanks liam

    • @silvermoonlightuk
      @silvermoonlightuk  Před rokem +1

      Hi Liam, we lost a bit of material due to the odd shape and cuts we had to do. It cost us £800 approximately and it is so much warmer. We can actually sit in it in the winter and it retains the heat now. It's also much cooler in the summer and not like a greenhouse anymore. It's truly worthwhile doing 😊 Elayne

      Thanks for getting back to me elayne, how long ago did you complete this. Thank you so much for sharing this information.
      I’m thinking of maybe doing the same but using the supaquilt foil instead of the king span on the roof.
      That kingspan is about £100 a board o think now. My conservatory is 9mx4m.

    • @silvermoonlightuk
      @silvermoonlightuk  Před rokem

      Liam I think we did it in either 2020 or 2021..it's all a blur these past few years lol. We thought about using the super quilt but on checking the thermal qualities decided against it as the kingspan was better. I think we used thermotech from buildbase as it was cheaper than the kingspan and jaad similar thermal qualities. Another good point to make is the sound reduction of the rain and also the neighbours can't hear your conversations anymore lol

    • @goldengoose4985
      @goldengoose4985 Před 7 měsíci

      Look nice! But what l don’t understand is, your supposed to leave an air gap of 50mm between the polycarbonate and the installation . Then 25mm from insulation to plasterboard or cladding. Air has to circulate otherwise it sweats and causes damp and mould further down the line. I have seen many videos like yours and heard of the stories where it all had it be ripped down later and done all over again because of the above reasons.
