  • Valjean
    One day more,
    Another day, another destiny,
    This never ending road to Calvary;
These men who seem to know my crime
Will surely come a second time,
    One day more
    Marius
I did not live until today,
How can I live when we are parted?
    Valjean
    One day more
    Marius & Cosette
    Tomorrow you'll be worlds away,
And yet with you, my world has started
    Eponine
One more day all on my own
    Marius & Cosette
    Will we ever meet again?
    Eponine
One more day with him not caring
    Marius & Cosette
I was born to be with you
    Eponine
What a life I might have known
    Marius & Cosette
And I swear I will be true!
    Eponine
But he never saw me there
    Enjolras
One more day before the storm!
    At the barricades of Freedom!
When our ranks begin to form,
Will you take your place with me?
    Marius
Do I follow where she goes!
Shall I join my brothers there!
Do I stay or do I dare?
    All
    The time is now
    The place is here
    Valjean
    One day more!
    Javert
    One more day till revolution,
We will nip it in the bud!
I will join these little schoolboys,
They will wet themselves with blood!
    Valjean
    One day more!
    M & Mme Thenardier
    Watch'm run amuck,
    Catch'm as they fall,
    Never know your luck
'Till there's a free for all,
    Here a little dip
    There a little touch,
    Most of them are goners
    So they won't miss much!
    Various Students
One day to a new beginning
Raise the flag of freedom high!
Every man will be a king
Every man will be a king
There's a new world for the winning
There's a new world to be won
Do you hear the people sing?
    Marius
    My place is here,
    I fight with you!
    Valjean
    One day more!
    Marius & Cosette
I did not live until today
    Tomorrow you'll be worlds away
And yet with you my world has started
    Eponine
One more day all on my own
    Javert
I will join these people's heroes
I will follow where they go
I will know their little secrets,
I will know the things they know
    Valjean
    One day more!
    M & Mme Thenardier
    Watch 'em run amuck
    Catch 'em as they fall
    Never know your luck
    When there's a free-for-all
    Javert
    One more day to revolution
We will nip it in the bud
We'll be ready for these schoolboys
    Tomorrow is the judgement day
    Valjean
    Tomorrow we'll be far away,
    Tomorrow is the judgement day
    All
    Tomorrow we'll discover
What our God in Heaven has in store!
    One more dawn
    One more day
    One day more!

I hear everyone give Russel Crowe crap about his singing but he was my favorite in this movie.

    • @notsocrazy2426
      @notsocrazy2426 Před 10 lety +64

I thought he did fine considering the part is a little out of his range. I'm pretty sure Russell Crowe is a low baritone like me, and Javert's part is above middle C way too much for my taste. He sounds like he's struggling on those Fs and that F#, but the Confrontation sounds badass, so it's a tradeoff.

I honestly feel he is the best representation of Javert. The character wasn't suppose to be blatantly intimidating and confident; but rather deeply troubled, very obsessive and fixated, and generally a possessor of an almost lifeless and cold demeanour. Russel Crowe did amazingly!!!

I don't know what you call this sort of thing, when a musical has separate characters singing separate songs and they all combine into one huge climax, but it always gives me chills.

You call it a CONCERTATO. It is a typical thing in Opera. In many operas from the XVIII to the XX century ( Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi are the specialists) you find that an act ends with a scene where the actions stop for a while and the different characters sing about their emotions or projects. It is generally exciting, sometimes a masterpiece.

They change a lot of things from the book to the musical. The Thernardiers are more evil and less comic, for one. But yeah, when I read the (abridged) book I was astonished by how little actual connection Eponine has with Marius and how she basically is trying to block the romance the entire time. Victor Hugo even basically says when she dies "She was one of those "if I can't have him, no one will" people."

Facts that make this scene even sadder:
      1) The pin Javert gave to Gavroche was the Legion of Honor medal, which was issued by Napoleon. Not just some regular police award
      2) The melody that plays there is from Bring Him Home, especially the line "he's like the son I might have known, if God had granted me a son"
Now we all cry and need some chocolate.

"Tomorrow we'll discover what our God in heaven has in store." but they already knew that God isn't fair and that God doesn't care as said in the lyrics of Look Down "look down, look down, sweet Jesus hear my prayer." Then it's answered with "Look down look down, sweet Jesus doesn't care." This musical is the accurate representation of life. You don't get the boy you love, not everyone survives. Justice is met with cruelty and happiness can end in sorrow.

I absolutely love Javerts presence in this movie, his singing is decent, and only noticeably off / "bad" during Stars and his Suicide. Which I still enjoyed, I wanted him to get higher in note and etc, but I enjoyed it none the less. This movie isn't all about the talent of singing (which sounds like a horrible statement because it's a musical) But the acting also plays a very powerful role into this movie, it gives a really accurate depiction of what the songs mean and how they should be seen. which really opened my eyes in this movie, before watching it I had whole different thought of the songs.

Luxain I agree. What may sum it up is that: with the musical, the music drives the emotion; with the movie, the emotion drives the music. Either way is perfectly valid and they work. But they both have very different effects and people will prefer one over the other.

Yeah I mean, really all it is is that he is lonely. He just takes his job way too seriously, he wants to please God, and by devoting himself to hunt down a Jean Valjean he is technically devoting himself to pleasing God. Javert rocks dude, he is just misunderstood.

You're entitled to your opinion, but personally, I think that Crowe did a great job in the sense of he giving a powerful performance - he embodied the spiteful and vengeful Javert from the original text by Hugo (in which Javert is diminutive and 'ordinary' next to the larger and more prominent Valjean)... he has a different voice to the rest of the cast, it's true, but you could hear the raw emotion in his voice when he was singing - just look at 'Javert's Suicide.' (:

Okay, so I just did this show in my high school, and this show means so much fucking more than people than people give it credit for. "The time the day is here." Will always make me cry, because Enjolras tried so hard to get those boys on the barricade heard, but they weren't heard they didn't have any of the reinforcements they needed. They knew that too. But they stayed. They still stayed to die so that the people who had nothing had something, they made sure the lessers were heard by those who had everything. They gave people a voice. Everyone looks at the love triangle and they pay attention to that about how Eponine deserved to live. But how? If she had lived, if any of them did then it wouldn't be real. This story wouldn't have meaning in the world. It's called the miserable because people are miserable.

Man, a group of actors I'm with is doing One Day More as a part of a fundraiser we're doing and I have Javert's part in it and listening to this... His part in this song is probably the most intense. Hell, during our first listen to the song I was among the few who sang our parts as the track played and I had this irresistible urge to get out of my chair and sing my part.
