Coming out as an atheist in the Philippines is almost unheard of. Filipinos are very religious people, but it bothers me that most people think that having no religion means I worship the devil or I'm just going through a bad time in my life.
Having no religion is an option. I respect other people's belief, but why can't they respect mine? It's very frustrating.

Not being a theist cannot be an option when a god is observed and proven to be real.
Theists claim a god or gods are real, theists need to present their gods as proof because we do not observe gods existing on multiple occasions... in fact, on none.

because religious people can be the most judgmental people on the planet. whenever you go against the status quo, they will attack you.
they're only good Catholics/Christians whenever its convenient for them... for example:
a lot of Religious nut jobs oppose same sex marriage saying its against God's law.... but then turn around and cheat on their wives with other women (which is also against God's law)
      most religious folks are hypocrites.

Atheists are right that they are the product of mindless unguided natural processes, then they have given a strong reason to doubt the reliability of human cognitive faculties. And therefore inevitably to doubt the validity of any belief that they produce including their atheism. And their beliefs in naturalism would therefore appear to be at war with each other, in a conflict that is nothing to do with “God”

Can I ask you something? Can a people become a nation again after having been dispersed in different parts of the world for more than two thousand years? And in the countries where they were exiled, they were the minority and were heavily persecuted. They were not allowed to secure jobs and were often expelled from their lands..
And throughout the ages, kings, queens, political and religious leaders tried to annihilate them...do you think they could survive as a people?
Could they become a nation again and become a powerful force in the region shortly after they reestablish themselves in the land of their forefathers? And as they tried to rebuild their tiny country, they have to survive the attacks of the neighboring nations that have more well-established armies?
Considering they are a small country, with no army at that time, as small as New Jersey with the land mostly dessert, surrounded by enemies who attack them from all sides
--- and with hardly any natural resources that even Mark Twain in his diary said that even a cactus was having a hard time to grow in this arid, bone dry and dessicated land ? Will they survive? What do you think?

If you want a single proof that will prove that God exists..look no further - His people, the Jews. They still exist when all their enemies, great warriors of ancient civilizations, no longer exist. The Roman empire, the Greeks, Egypt, the Philistines... where are they now? Powerful armies have come and go but the Jews remain no matter how many times they have been surrounded by enemies all throughout history-- wanting to annihilate and slaughter them. But the Jews still exist and their military might is in full display for the world to see. The God of Israel is ever faithful. He never abandons His people for He promised to preserve them until the end of days. Here is the speech that will make you think twice before you turn your back on God.
      Prime Minister Netanyahu Speech
The Jews Are Proof that God exist
Only 70 years ago! The Jews were taken to slaughter like sheep.
      🔵 No country. No Army.
Seven Arab countries declared war on the small Jewish state, only a few hours after its creation!
🔵 we were 650,000 Jews against the many millions in the Arab world!
There was no strong IDF(Israel Defense Forces).
No powerful air force to save us but only brave Jewish people with nowhere else to go.
🔵Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia all attacked at the same time.
🔵the country that the United Nations gave us was a 65 % desert.
🔵 35 years ago! We fought the three most Powerful armies in the middle east, and we swept them in six days.
We fought against various coalitions of Arab countries, which had modern armies and many Soviet weapons, and we have always beaten them!
      Today we have:
      🔵 a State (Country)
      🔵 an Army,
      🔵 a Powerful Air Force,
🔵 A State-of-the-Art Economy with exports worth billions of dollars.
🔵 Intel - Microsoft - IBM & many high-tech companies develop cutting edge products in Israel
🔵 our doctors receive awards for medical research.
🔵 we make the desert bloom, and sell oranges, flowers and vegetables all over the world.
🔵 Israel has sent its own satellites into space!
🔵 three satellites at the same time!
🔵 We are proud to be at the same rank as:
🔵 The United States, which has 250 million inhabitants,
🔵 Russia, which has 200 million inhabitants,
      🔵 China, which has 1.3 billion inhabitants;
🔵 Europeans - France, Great Britain, Germany - with 350 million inhabitants.
🔵 the only countries in the world to send objects into space!
🔵 and say that only 60 years ago,
🔵 we were led, ashamed and hopeless, to slaughter!
🔵 we have experienced the smoking ruins of Europe,
🔵 we have won our wars here in Israel with less than nothing
🔵 we built our little "Empire" from nothing.
      Who's Hamas to scare us?
      🔴 to terrify us?
      You make us laugh!
      🔴 Passover was celebrated;
Let's not forget what Passover is:
      🔴 we survived Pharaoh,
      🔴 we survived the Greeks,
      🔴 we survived the Romans,
🔴 we survived the inquisition in Spain,
🔴 we have the pogroms in Russia,
      🔴 we survived Hitler,
      🔴 we survived the Germans,
      🔴 we survived the Holocaust,
🔴 we survived the armies of seven Arab countries,
      🔴 we survived Saddam.
🔴 we will survive the enemies present
Think of any time in human history ⚠
Think about it, for us, the Jewish people,
🔷 the situation has never been better!
🔷 then let's face the world,
      Let us remember:
🔶 all nations, empires or cultures
🔶 who once tried to destroy us,
🔶 no longer exist today - while we still live!
      🔶 Egypt?
      🔶 Babylon?
      🔶 the Greeks?
      🔶 Alexander of Macedonia?
🔶 The Romans? (does anyone still speak Latin these days? )
      🔶 The Third Reich?
      And look at us
      🔵 The slaves of Egypt,
      🔵 The People of Moses
🔵 The Nation of the Bible,
      🔵 We are still here,
And Hebrew is still the official language of the State of Israel today:
🚩 from the time of the Bible and now!
      🚩 Arabs don't know yet,
🚩 but they will learn that there is a God.
🚩 as long as we keep our identity, we are forever.
Some claim our morale is low.
      🔵 so what?
Only because we mourn our deaths while our enemies rejoice in the blood shed & war.
🔵 that is why we will win, in the end.
The God of Israel created the Heaven's and the Earth.
The Guardian of Israel never slumbers or sleep! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Reasons why I became an atheist:
    1. Religion used as an agenda: Historically we know that religion is used in favor of some people's agenda whether it's a state, a race and etc. If people have forgotten, then I'd like to remind that most major religions now, didn't spread accidentally, most of it was used by force (remember the colonial times).
    2. God as false hope: We always interpret things the way we'd like to see it. Good things happening to you? it's God's blessings. Bad things happening to you? That's just God testing you. We interpret things rather than seeing situations as they are. It's an unfair world and we just have to accept it.
    3. Religion diminishes your own personal thinking: If you follow a religion, you should follow everything that's being told upon you, if you don't then you're not 100% of that religion and that you are of another label or sect. Protestantism was birthed from a differing take on Christianity from the Catholic Church. If you believe in a personal God and don't subscribe to a religion, then that's you finding hope in a God in hopeless situations.

No, Jesus never told us to force our belief on anyone..but we are comamanded to share God's words with others. Maybe the next time you talk to an atheist...you can ask them this..

I suspect that for many, it's not that they can't grasp it, just that theyre not ready to sit with the idea and what it would mean for their egos and social identity.
Nonetheless, I went through my "atheism" phase & I wouldnt recommend it.

Chris, Amerikano ako na marunong mag-Tagalog. Taga-US ako, lumaki ako bilang Mormon. I think, and just as I learned about myself growing up, is that we simply accept what we are taught. If we are taught about god, chances are we will just accept it. Lalung lalo pag sa kapaligiran natin it is just understood and accepted na May diyos...relihiyoso or Hindi.

I have no idea why this was recommended to me.
But here's my hot take: Debates about the divine and the unknowable are pointless. Its one of those things that priviledged folk concern themselves with, acting all high and mighty thinking they're living some sort of up-market lifestyle while the commonfolk are debating whether to save money or buy food for the family.
If someone wants to be religious, fine. Atheist? Fine. In the real world, no one cares.
I'm religious myself. You want to ask me questions about faith? I have about 6 years worth of religious education both under seminary and postulancy under my belt but this would be my response: Ask a priest. I don't have time for that nonsense when I could be spending that time doing what I want to do or something important.

For those who are kind of confused on identifying their belief system:
Atheism - belief that there is no god
Agnosticism - can’t really say there is or there is no god ‘cause you can’t really know for sure. Is not equal to believing in a god but not in religion
Deism - belief in a god but not in religion; belief where there’s a god that created the universe but does not believe the supernatural abilities associated with them (e.g. controlling your fate, miraculous healing, etc.)

    • @thomasmorato5098
      @thomasmorato5098 Před 4 lety +3

      Actually no.
Atheism is the lack of belief in god.
Agnosticism is just lack of knowledge in a certain context. The word structure of agnostic has no religion within its context. Hence, agnostic people are still atheists. Agnostic atheist to be precise since those 2 terms are not mutually exclusive.
People may argue that Agnostic means god is not knowable. But that also means you are not actively believing in a god, basically you are still an atheist.
