    11:10 I will never forget that moment as long as i live. I was watching the game with my grandfather and friend. My grandfather was pretty sick at this point and couldn't get around all too well. I remember Jennings catching the ball and my grandfather literally jumping off the couch and we screamed and hugged each other. He has since passed but that moment between us will live on in my memory until i do the same. We were extremely close. He practically raised me. I think about him everyday and am thankful for this moment we had. Sports can be an amazing thing.

    8:45 You are correct, Michigan State and Michigan are in-state rivals. First played in 1898 and have played almost every year since. They both belong to the Big Ten Conference with MSU joining in the 1950's and Michigan being one of 7 founding members in 1896. It's one of the better in-state rivalries in regards to past games full of epic moments for either side and the stakes of many of the games.

      I don't envy the job of kickers(...well, I mean, I do...), their job is incredibly underrated, HAS to be one of the most psychologically demanding positions in all of sport, and even these guys were capable of picking up on the difficulties of kicking in football(perfect timing, perfect kick, no adjustments, no margin for error) that a lot of fans completely take for granted.

    I was a PK (place kicker) in high school and my coach said we had 1.2 seconds from the time the ball was snapped until my foot made contact with the ball or it would be blocked. We practiced about 20-30 minutes daily on this. During the off-season my holder and snapper and I would practice on our own about ab hour or two a week. Most kickers take a lot of pride in not having a kick blocked.

    15:33 In college sports its called storming the field (or court), not a pitch invasion. It happens all the time when there are big upsets. Usually it results in some sort of small fine for the university, but no one tries to stop it. They are more worried about someone getting hurt in a crush more than anything happening to the players. It's why in some of the videos, when they show the coach right after the game, you will see a couple of police officers guarding them. Its just one of those peculiarities of college sports that make them so awesome. I will never forget the time we had a big upset in basketball and we all stormed the court.

    One way to get a little more context by quickly glancing the screen while watching college football/basketball games is to look at the little numbers that are often next to the team names on the scoreboard. These indicate the teams rank in the country. Only the top 25 teams are ranked, so a team has to pretty good to be ranked. Usually the better ranked team is favored and if a unranked or lowly ranked team beats a highly ranked team (1-5 usually) at home, the fans will storm the court/field and its one of my favorite traditions in college sports. You guys should react to a compilation of storming the court/field for college basketball/football

    I nearly did a flip when Auburn ran that 100 yard play. Me and my grandmother are the only Auburn fans in our family, the rest are Alabama fans (they're HUGE rivals, by the way) so it was a little odd being the only two celebrating. Alabama usually wins when they play each other, so when Auburn does win I let everyone know.

For one it’s #1 vs #4, it comes down to literally the last play of the game, and then that happened. I still remember watching this game live and going crazy that Alabama lost this way, to who they lost to, and that they now, I’m pretty sure we’re out of the SEC Championship game, and also out of going to the National Championship game as well. Which I remember correctly this was the year that Florida State with Jameis Winston beat Auburn the Championship game. But yeah, this was an epic game, and I’m pretty sure the last 5 or 6 games leading up to this game between the 2 had all been good games too, if I am remembering it all right that is.

    I remember watching that Alabama/Auburn game (the Iron Bowl) with my wife. The reason they didn't tackle Chris Davis when he was returning it is because Field Goal units have 1 job, to block for the kicker. So they tend to be linemen, tight ends, the holder (usually the punter), and, of course, the kicker. They rarely have a defensive mindset and have to make a tackle.

    About those plays where the team is throwing the ball back and forth multiple times - that’s truly a desperation play you’ll really only see at the end of the game. The reason is that during each “play” or “down” - from the time the ball is snapped until it is whistled down/over, there can only be one forward pass - it must originate from behind the line of scrimmage (where the ball started, placed on the ground) - if the ball isn’t caught, the play is whistled over, and the ball goes back to the previous line of scrimmage. However, players can throw as many “laterals” as they want (or can get away with); if you draw an imaginary line from the player with the ball to the sideline(s), a “lateral” means throwing the ball at or behind that line. If the ball goes forward at all, and a forward pass has already been made or the thrower is past the line of scrimmage, the play is over (and since these type plays happen when time is running out, so is the game - though the game will not end, even if time has run out, while a play is active). What makes this a desperation play only is that when a lateral is thrown, it’s a “live ball”, meaning if it’s dropped, it’s a fumble, and instead of the play being over, either team can pick it up. And the team is moving backward with each toss of the ball.
    As I said, it’s a desperation play, and almost never works!

    In American Football, place kickers often get heckled when they miss under a certain distance. Coaches and fans expect every short kick to go in because that's the only job they usually have on the team

    a little context from the Tennessee vs Georgia game. TN was ahead 28 to 24 with 19 secs left in the game and Georgia throws a bomb and scores a touchdown with 10 secs left and get an unsportsmanlike penalty and makes then set the ball 15 yards back from the normal placement of the kick. then TN has 1 play with 4 secs left and throws up a prayer and 15 comes down with the catch.

    In the beginning regarding the 17-17 around 4:02 time, the kicker should have nailed that 33yd field goal. The miracle was that he missed. There's high school field goal kickers making 40+.

    Oh man, you guys would really love the college football rivalries. Also, all these laterals you're seeing, where players are passing it backward to teammates to keep the ball alive. That is not normal. Seeing a successful gamble play like one that relies on laterals, live, is like watching a historical event.

    WVU Alumni here. When you go to a West Virginia Game go to a Saturday night game (7PM Kick Off) The atmosphere is electric. As for any other College football game; try to find a game where both teams are ranked in the Top 25. The closer the rankings are to each other the better. (#11 vs #12). This will more than likely be a closer game than say #23 vs #3. The later in the year it gets the harder it will be to find tickets because that's when most of the rivalry games are played. First 2 weeks October is the best in my opinion, the weather is perfect, and the teams are in mid season form.

    (American here) I really enjoy college football much more than the pro-NFL. Pros very rarely run some weird play (and pros will usually stop it). College football, the players are great, but still unusual plays, trick plays, come-from-behind last-minute things happen much, much more often.
    (Also, the attending college fans, are much more invested in their school team than a city is in their local NFL team.)

    You have to understand the context for a lot of these plays. Some are for the National Championship, others are rivalry games, and some are upsets. The context in which the plays happened added to the intensity of the moment and made the play “miraculous.”

  • @Britton_Thompson
    @Britton_Thompson Před 3 lety +1

    To fully appreciate the play where the guy catches the FG kick in the endzone in front of the goalpost and runs it back for a touchdown with :01 second left, know this:
    It occurred in the biggest rivalry game in college football in the last game of the year between the #1 and #4 ranked teams in America, who are from the same state. Furthermore, the winner of that game had gone on to win the national championship the previous 4 years in a row before this. Let that sink in...
    The national championship stayed in the same state for four years in a row. Also, the #1 team in this game- Alabama -was trying to make history by being the first team in history to win 3 national championships in a row. They were undefeated, and on their way to doing so when the most bizarre ending of all time struck in the biggest game of the year against the team they hated the most.
    It's considered the most mind-blowing play in college football history because while there have been many electrifying last second miracle plays before, none had as much at stake in a rivalry as heated and intense as this.

  • @davesunhammer4218
    @davesunhammer4218 Před 3 lety

    For you people new to football, the last 5 years are the hardest. It is a 40/60 play to try to run it in from just a few yards so a 3 pt field goal to tie the game is safer. So some of the plays shown are actually more spectacular than they seem.
    Also, sometimes a game can be "the last straw" and break a coach's career with that school. A win can be more than just a win.

    If you guys come to the states to watch a college football game, you MUST go to see a Penn State game during the "white out". It's the craziest environment in college football. Nothing compares to it. State College Pennsylvania becomes the third largest city in the state, the stadium which is the third largest in the world is packed with over 110,000 fans, all except the few visitors wear white, and it's electric.

    10:28 This play was awesome! Georgia had just scored a touchdown. They was 3 points ahead. We needed a field goal to at least tie. Dobbs throws the hail mary and by the grace of God Jennings caught the ball. It put Tennessee 5-0 up to that point in the season. (Don't ask about the rest of the season.)
    Later on in OBRs video here they show a clip of the Gators winning against Tennessee. Im not putting a timestamp for that clip. Nobody needs to see that again. These 2 clips sums up being a Vols fan. You will have a heart attack at least once each game.

    Field goals are never automatic or guaranteed.

  • @kentgrady9226
    @kentgrady9226 Před 3 lety +1

    4:21
    It was a short field goal. Decent college kickers are normally quite reliable inside a distance of 40 yards. Professional kickers are nearly automatic inside 50.
    Misses occur, of course. Kicks can be blocked. Weather conditions, mostly wind, can play hell with the ball in flight. The kicker can succumb to nerves. But outright misses should not happen. It's like being awarded a penalty to win on the last kick of a match, and missing the goal altogether. It happens, but it's unusual.
