- one of my favorite little corners in the game.
AFAIK its the first time you can see Ravenholm in the distance if you manage to jump up here with crates.
And yes i know theres a video bug at the end but im too lazy to fix it. - Hry

One of the most atmospheric places in the game.
I know. It still holds up even for a game that came out just before I was born. In this part of the game I just had to take a moment and look through everything and take a small break from all the sci-fi chaos this game emits.
@@navydog5797So glad younger people are playing this game. I first played it in 2013 when I was 14. Fell in love with the half life series and have had a fascination with the story and atmosphere ever since
@@BananaPhoPhilly Going to HS now what u said i mean its as pretty as a picture still love the game :)
This game worked wonders with environmental story telling in ways that modern games still struggle with. The whole game is full of quiet, desolate places like this with a few clues for the observant. Somebody was hiding and living here for a while, and thought they had found a safe spot. You can almost feel the depression, loneliness, and desperation of the characters in this world. Not many games nail the ambiance like this game did.
i think it was actually a group of people because when we get there, theres 1 person who is a zombie in the corner of the area, theres another who is under a platforming kinda area and then someone who is on top of the platforming area
im thinking maybe these 3 found this spot to hide out for a while, but one night, one of them ended up getting infected by a headcrab, and then when the person woke up they clawed the other 2 and killed them
doesnt really explain why one of them is on the platform, seeing as theres no way up, but maybe they tried to get away from the zombified person by going up there and ended up starving or something
There's also a lone co officer who I assume was checking for survivors to "sterilize"
Ooh, thiis is one of my favorite quiet moments in the game. It sounds both pretty, sad and a little eerie, hearing the wind chimes when you find the poor guy who died in this area...and it's very relaxing to listen to.
Cant understand people, who rushing game fast, avoiding this beautiful moments, they are a lot in HL2. I guess I am deam true introvert, who needs to stay alone at something like that. xd Greetings from Russia

@@user-zh2rz1mf1w it's not a *secret* place, it's a whole chapter.
God, this soundscape fills you with so much nostalgia. It reminds me of every weird Gmod map I played as a kid.
Please list some maps worthy of playing.
This reminds me of dead desert.
I also liked nippers maps such as de_absurdity
And I have felt at home at lucky house
And riverside house, I think it was a reinterpitation of summerhouse.
Mainly the most played map that features these noises is tornadoalley_final from 2011
No other place has ever made me feel this way. This little ambient scene tells whole stories.
*I N T E R L O P E R*
Never seen anyone mention this little bit of audio, even on the iceberg videos. As far as I know, it's the only place where these wind chimes play, and it's completely missable if you don't actually spend more than a minute in this extremely small alleyway to notice them.
I love sometimes "sit down" in this game and enjoy the ambience
I remember stopping at this particular spot for a while. For being somewhere in a fictitious future it felt very relevant then for me.
interloper moment
When I found this place I went on CZcams to see if people talks about it but literally anyone does. These sounds are mysterious and unique, you can't hear them anywhere else, and just for that people should put it in their "secrets and easter eggs" videos of HL2.
Really underrated stuff.
Ngl, I feel like HL2 still has some hidden Easter eggs despite probably being data mined to bits already (ex: those random human skulls that are hidden around water hazard/route kanal without any explanation. They were listed in the official guide as objects to look for. Their purpose is still unknown)
the chimes are what brought me here, i loved going into gmod and just sitting on a well mad map or exploring it, with the desolate sounds of wind and bottles clinging together like some desert ghost town. simply amazing.
It scared me more than Ravenholm, no jokes. Just imagine standing in the place with two corpses and hearing that wind with bells that ringing somewhere you don't know where exactly. Thrilling to meh...
Thanks man, i needed this...
very little people paid attention or even found this area of the game.
I've found it, but never heard the wind chimes.
I don't know why but these specific sounds reminds me of all the friends I've met through various Source games, whether it be Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Garry's Mod and many more.
Most of them are just gone now, but things like this remind me of all the good moments I spent in the late 2000's
I really like it but it is also very depressing. It is like the spirits of the once thriving civilizations are now vanishing away. Just a memory now.
I thought I was the only one who thought this place looked super cozy lol. So beautiful
Makes me so happy to see all the apprecation for this beautiful little area.
I wish VR headsets weren't so expensive, because I want to go to this place in VR, sit down and just take in the atmosphere and meditate to the chimes.
As soon as I'm rich enough to the point where a vr headset is not a super expensive purchase, I'm doing exactly this
@@dumkorph I don't know your financial situation but you can buy second hand quest 2s for not that much.
Omg, somebody did a recording of this, this is my favorite part of HL2 ambiance. Thank you so much!
These are the sounds of a world that's gone from a thriving population of nearly 6-7 billion people with immense amounts of wildlife, industry, technology, and culture - To a cruel, desolate, and dying wasteland now likely supporting less than a billion starved and impoverished humans, along with a handful of native animal species on the verge of extinction due to the ungodly amount of alien fauna and flora which has taken root across the world.
Areas like these never cease to make me feel that underlying tone of sadness and hopelessness the world of Half Life 2 subtly offers behind its blockbuster action, plot, and characters. Gordon is fighting for/over a world which, in the grand scheme of things, will likely never fully recover from its 20-year long pillaging and holocaust by the Combine, much less so the set-back in technology and infrastructure most of Earth will be going through once the Combine are finally defeated, inevitably also leading to petty squabbles over Earth's few remaining resources and dwindling native animal life once things are attempted to be re-established.
All this because Dr. Breen made a split-second decision to get greedy and boost his expensive and rather dangerous testing apparatus beyond its known safety limits.
What to take away from this?
*Don't be stupid - Be a smarty.*
I personally think that Breen isn't the one to blame for this. He saved humanity from extinction (at least in the short term), technically giving them time to regroup and destroy the citadel, giving humanity a chance of survival. That wouldn't have been possible because no humans would survive the 7 hour war that could resist the combine. Breen still couldn't have done much for humanity since the combine don't care about earth as a whole, and if Breen tried to do more for humans he would've probably been replaced with no fuss. If humanity actually wins the war against the combine, they would have passed the hardest part of it, as with the combine tech as well as some xen creatures like the vortigaunts, they would have great chances to rebuild humanity. Of course, it would be much smaller, not more than a few hundred million, but with the alien help as well as the internet that Russel has downloaded, it would be possible. Still, were the combine to attack once more with their off-earth army, humanity wouldn't have lasted even 7 minutes.
IS IT ME OR YOU GUYS FINISH OFF THEM ZOMBIES HERE QUICK TO SIT DOWN AND RELAX?

Finally! I've been looking for a video like this for days! Personally one of my favorite soundscapes in the game I absolutely love the sound of wind chimes and the mix of wind sound perfect! Thanks!
This is like the soundtrack of my actual mental state
this place is so eerie, the wind chimes just playing over and over, headcrabs coming out of the unknown and dead refugees
Это прекрасно... Это напоминает о том, каким пустым стал мир Халф-Лайф 2. Вероятно, в этом индустериальном районе когда-то кипела жизнь, а теперь в нём пусто, только звуки ветра...
This soundtrack for some reason puts me in A State of panic. I remember getting really scared when finding this area in the game. Does anyone else experience this?
It's uncanny. A tranquil, but strange place that just doesn't seem to belong. Finding a place like this either puts you at ease or very much at unease - with something this far out of the loop, there's scarcely little in between.
As for me...
I've grown to quite like it.
It's even more foreboding when what's supposed to be a peaceful safe sounding area is surrounded by the dead bodies.
@@musicaleuphoria8699 That may play a part of it, too lol. Didn't even stop to consider that given it's in the brutal, decaying world of half-life 2.
Have you listen to lobotomy corporation second warning? it is the definition of panic
@cooleecoolee9504 nah that's like D'n'B action music. Panic in music form for me would be Frankie Teardrop by Suicide. Great song recommendation though
When I played through this moment I randomly saw this path that I previously didn't even notice. When I came here the energetic music stopped playing and I heard the wind chimes that sent me back to earth. I suddenly became the Gordon Freeman, a regular person that went through the events of half life 1 and 2 until thst point, and could only now realise what has really happened to humanity in the span of those 20 years. This place made me self aware of everything. It made me terrified, but at the same time the place also gave me chills, relaxing me. This horrifying yet nostalgic and relaxing feeling is what I love about half life.

Looking for this video for a long time Thank you cuttie! ^^
one of my most favorite places in the game. i tried so long to find the chime. but i couldnt
for a game about running and gunning down combine soldiers by the hundreds, this is surprisingly calming.
I know for a fact that at least once, I've come to this spot, and enjoyed the ambience so much it made me quit the game. It just feels... wrong to go back to what is essentially an action movie after just soaking in the atmosphere here.
Speaking for myself, it definitely took some hours with this game before I could stand to play fast in general. Not because I couldn't, just... because I didn't want to. This area, and many others, are the epitome of that.
Half-life 2 plays like an action movie, as said, and any and all contact with the progression of the game and story snaps you back to that. But at the same time... there are just so many of *these* quiet places that, if you want to, you could easily have a good time just globetrotting from one chance sanctuary to another with the gameplay as an exciting interlude. That's what I did, at any rate.
I've recently gotten into this game again, this time making an effort to play it at a more aggressive, flowing pace... and I gotta say. It genuinely feels like a different game, going into it with that mindset. If anything... I guess it just goes to show how much the experience is in the hands of the player, too.
INTERLOPER INTERLOPER!!!!!!!
I see that not only author but people saying that it's their favorite place in the game, but I still want to add that mine too), every time after dealing with headcrabs I stay still there for a few moment and wonder why it is there, who put it there, why I can see it, who was these people now dead or turned into something worse...
That place always creeps me out
i've recently finished breaking bad, and throughout season 5 i remember the same exact wind ambience being used for certain scenes
The Source Engine sounds are present in many different forms of media. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard the crowbar clang effect play in movies...

@@Graffels valve sounds so good.
The low chime tone heard at 1:56 is exactly the same as the one used in Hammerfight in post-game accolades screen.
I'm sure it's part of a devkit and used elsewhere as well, and Hammerfight isn't exactly as popular as HL2, but maybe this comment will help someone else through a tip-of-the-tongue moment.
The only dislike was killed by the headcrab...
Interlopers know whats up
That sound gave me PTSD lmao
LITERALLY the bells in Bloodborne & the jingling accoutrement of the undead caravan from Begotten
This area of the game spooked me on my playthrough
Here's what I think happened
There's 2 guys here, one is a zombie, the other is a cripple. I'll call the zombie Dave, and the cripple Jack. They're either good friends or brothers or maybe father and son.
When I found this place, Jack had a fucked up leg that was all backward and shit so I guessed he was a cripple.
There is a bike there, and I think that Jack used it as a wheelchair.
Basically, Dave and Jack were just sitting there, scraping by when the combine sent in a headcrab canister.
Dave tried to kill the headcrabs, but got zombified. Jack got beaten to death by his own zombified friend, who was likely aware of what his body was doing, but unable to do anything about it.
That's my analysis
Poor Bob and bill

I tried to find these bells but ended up with nothing :(
Yeah I also spent a good half hour looking for them but I never did find them
@@itsthreesevenmusic you can find them in the water hazard chapter, you will see 2 sections, one without zombies that goes up into a tunnel and one with zombies, the chimes are located in the area to the right with zombies.

Consider doing this with Half Life 2: Update and maybe even MMod for improved graphical performance. Including amazing lighting.
