I love the quick disconnects. As an emt I had a call for someone who had collapsed at a range. Getting the rig off in a matter of seconds probably saved his life.

Shit I was wearing a Vietnam era flak jacket when we crossed the border during the invasion. And I was a 50 turret gunner on a arctic kit HMMV with no armor kit. Pfft kids these days! :)
Honest answer: because the government usually buys the cheapest shit possible for the troops that will suffice, or the bid goes to the contractor that pays the generals the most. Cops, on the other hand, have to/get to buy much of their own gear (depending on the department). It’s the same reason SEALs and Delta have better gear. They get to pick their gear, so they get the best. With regular grunts, they just get what the military decided will work best for everyone. Usually that’s gear that was designed 10-20 years ago because it had to go through a 5 year bid, trial, and build up phase. By the time the troops get it, it’s old technology. And the military isn’t going to upgrade 7 year old gear that still works because they have to outfit hundreds of thousands of soldiers.

True there could be a ton of force needed to remove the buckles. Lets say your buddy is bleeding out and you have to drag him by his plate carrier and the buckles snap under his weight? Why do they have to reinvent the wheel?
Belly crawl through Iraqi sugar sand and the velcro is soon toast. As for quick drop it was only intended for wound care not hipster high speed camera posing. Just like jump boot zippers were for doffing your boots after an ankle injury, not daily use.
Eh the quick release is a flaw. Someone can just yank that thing off by accident if they decide to grab the cop by there. Could of been 10/10 for me if the quick release was non existent. I could see the pros of it, but it’s also a con.
Yeah i agree if you get in a wrestling match with a suspect on the ground and they pull on it now your chest and upper torso is now unprotected from gun fire love the idea but it needs so sort of safety mechanism to prevent it from just being ripped off during a tussle

Nearly every plate carrier on the market, including those used by the military have some form of quick release. It is there to allow ease of access to an injury.
That pull cord on the chest was meant for emergencies. Not if your "hot". I guess you can use it to take it off if your hot. It's so they can remove the plate carrier with minimal effort to protect the injury.
I guess everyone here got their special forces training at the spec-Ed national training center. Vests are ALREADY designed this way. The previous version used by the military comes apart and you have to spend goddamn 3 hours trying to weave the metal wiring back through it to get it back together. I assume this is still using the metal wire, but just squeezes the clips at the end of the wire kinda like bicycle brakes. This saves SO much time on reassembly. This is an amazing upgrade over the previous version. I hope the military upgrades.
Times are changing. But are the police responding to the change or are we responding o their change? I would argue the police are militarizing because they face more serious threats than ever. Also, the military started giving them free surplus gear like armored personnel carriers and the like.

FYI depending on the carrier you can arrange the quick release to not come off when you yank it by keeping the tab underneath its normal position. In the rare chance you're in a situation you don't want it active

The problem is that the police believe they are the military. They also have a military approach in interacting with civilians which is most of the problems we have today. They are NOT MILITARY, they are public servants dealing with civilians!!!

It's super similar to modern Army IOTVs. Ours is instead covered by a seperate piece of material so it isn't snagged while crawling for example
