Yep! It was. I remember going on a field trip to AstroWorld in 4th grade, and I used to have a picture of a friend, my 4th grade teacher and myself on this ride. Really one of the only memories I have of that 4th grade trip, lol
The footage is of the Wildcatter at SFOT not the Skyscreamer at SFAW (RIP). It was originally called Cliff Hanger then G-Force and finally Wildcatter. It was removed a couple years ago to make room for the stupid Tony Hawk Spin Coaster that pretty much sucks. It was one of the first of these types of rides built. You can tell its SFOT because of the Superman Ride, the Dive Bomber Alley framework and I can make out the big Oil Derrick towards the end of the video.
Come on guys lets not fight. The Sky Screamer at AstroWorld and the Cliffhanger/G Force/Wildcatter was at sfot. They are the same KIND of ride but 2 different rides. They are both 1st generation freefalls from the Intamin company. Unlike the 2nd taller and scarier generation, the 1st uses pure gravity where the newer and taller 2nd forces you down and use magnets, (among other things) to stop you so you never curve out. They're not as clunky as the 1st but the 1st will always be best to me.
This is at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington (you can see Superman Tower of Power and Dive Bomber Alley in the background). This was called Wildcatter (originally Texas Cliffhanger) but was demolished. Astroworld had a similar ride called Sky Screamer.
Sky Screamer WAS at Astroworld!! It had a distinct "whoop whoop" before it dropped! I was stuck on it for almost an hour, then without warning... drop! This ride was also used by many area HS physics teachers on field trips, where you had to perform lil experiments on the different rides. On Sky Screamer, you were to hold a coin in the palm of ur hand and count how long it took to fall, once the ride deployed.

Sky Screamer and Wildcatter are 2 different rides, in fact wildcatter was installed at SFOT before Sky Screamer was installed at SFAW.

Great Adventure called this Freefall, installed about 1983.
Now, Sky Screamer is a swing ride up in a tower.

I had been going to astroworld since I was 3 and I have never heard of the wildcatter when did it come out.
Too bad that one bit the dust too. God I loved Wildcatter!
This is at dorney park
Nope. Cause I don't remember going to Arlington for a 4th grade field trip to Six Flags.
the equivalent to the old FREEFALL @ magic mountain
Is the ride still there?
No. The only existing rides like this model are Demon Drop at Dorney Park near Philadelphia, and Hollywood Tower of Terror in Italy.
this isnt at astroworld
That is not Astro world
