      Have you tried to get a GR Corolla? The dealerships can’t even tell you when you can get one. Even though released before you’ll see the Type R’s ripping around the streets by owners before the GR. And if you’re getting the two top trims of the Corolla you’re paying the same or almost the same as the Type R with less practicality and a worse interior. Type R still wins at this price point.

    I have 2022 Elantra n dct. Model and let me say I’m blown away a really good car before Hyundai was junk. Never thought I’d buy one but this so good for price it can’t be beat. And with only a jb4 and forge intake. Car makes 310whp and 315tq. Runs 0-60. Consistently 4.44. And that me limiting the boost with jb4. In 1st and. Second gear. No wheel spin. The brakes the way car handles. Is really good I can’t find anything I don’t like besides it not being awd but. I’m happy with it. Last car I raced was a 2018 bmw m3. I pulled on him we. Only raced from 30-80 we both pulled over his car was stock. He couldn’t believe mine was stock. I figured his car be faster but. I was wrong. Why is it that NO ONE EVER brings up German cars when they are overpriced? It's as if it's accepted that it's OK with Euro trash to be high. The Golf R is 44k and NOBODY bats an eye. A much better built rival is now $44k and hell freezes over. Stop the brand bias and snobbery bro. Also, $44k my ass. Dealers will slap another $20k in markups and dumb people will pay for it.
    As for your comparison vehicles, most of them aren't in the same category. You're comparing a Civic hatchback with plenty of space for daily use and a family to two door coupes and muscle cars. Surprised you didn't throw in a Camry. It's only true competitors are the GR Corolla, and Golf R. Also, the Civic will be better built than most of the cars on your list. It's also being made in Japan again with a lot of the assembly being done by hand with the expertise of a Takumi.

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  Před rokem +1

      The Golf R has an advanced awd system that can send 100 percent of the tq that gets split to the back to one wheel so that it rotates, has an optional dct which is much faster than the type r, and the golf r is one of the best hot hatches ever made so $44k for that is reasonable.
      Honda was known as a value brand, bringing almost as much as what German brands could do for a fraction of the price. Now that honor is for the Elantra N.
      ADM is not msrp for one and you can still find some dealerships that do not charge over msrp. I bought my GR86 500 miles away to avoid markup.
      WRX, Mazda 3 turbo, golf r, Elantra N, GR Corolla all have room for family and friends and all are better priced for what they give you.
      As for a Mustang GT, Nissan Z or Supra they are in the price segment and are worth comparing to this $44k Civic.
      Also I have owned 6 Civics, 4 Accords, a crv, a HRV, a odyssey and a Pilot. So I am all for Honda, well at least when Honda was better at pricing.

    If you were to get all cars at sticker there isn't another option that replaces the type r if you want a track ready package. Supra 2.0 isn't even comparable in performance other than pure HP number, GT would get smoked in any HPDE, Z is a touring car apples to oranges here, Elantra is a good point but still underperforms to fk8 let alone the new gen, wrx is not comparable in performance, golf r/corolla is same price so that could be relevant. I really think its almost in its own lane for an enthusiast who doesn't want to modify a new car to perform really well and have the true theatrics of a drivers car. If you want all of that you're talking a new price range, I think that's why its so appealing but the markups will truly define whether its worth the cost or not.

As for the rest of that list there is only three I would consider cross-shopping with the Type R. The Corolla, the Golf R, and the Mustang. No Supra unless it’s the 3.0 and a manual. The Z isn’t even a consideration for me due to its lack of handling. The Elantra N well impressive is still a little too cheap feeling in the interior although excellent for the price, I just want better. And for me a usable Four seater at the least was a must. No extra power or performance.
    Unlike the Canadian market SI, the USA has no extra goodies included for that money.

    More technically. Ouch.
    The Civic Type R goes up $6000, with again no additional standard features basically the same engine and power and no new ring trophy. Great cars still somewhat competitive and among the best handlers in their class
    But way over price compared to the competition that got better.
    Honda has reputation reliability low maintenance and is the sport coming act mid king in America and is among the best lookers roomiest most cargo space cleanest interior among most of its competitors.
    It will probably come in last in a 0-60, but from a roll or in corners it is highly competitive, in corners it was s among the best.

      I didn’t see any fake vents, the 10th gen type r was riddled with fake vents and honestly that was my biggest complaint.

      ~The fl5 has even more fake vents than fk8 in the front. (See autotrader's clip: czcams.com/video/NrmfrjDIS5g/video.html)
      ~Fk8's front vent covers can easily be removed to do something like forward facing turbo mods:

      I saw the clip and ok one small area is fake but the rest is not so again a big improvement over the massive fake vents on the 10th gen type r.

    I think it's priced fairly considering the other options. Type R also has that name to it versus the other brands. The GR Circuit Edition is the one to own of the Corolla and that one priced the same as well.
    Around 40K I'd keep a Type R. I wouldn't buy a VW branded car (without soul imo) and Z is underwhelming (but I would consider a Nismo version). Supra is only worth it at 6cyl, but would love one at 50K range. Mustang same thing would love one but with added goodies that put it well above the Honda.

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  Před rokem +2

      Great points but I still think a Civic for $44k starting is a bit high. I was hoping it would have landed at $39k.

    • @deniscdyck
      @deniscdyck Před rokem +1

      @@CruiseControl1 the civic doesn't have a bare bones trim that no one would actually want like the Corolla that at the base doesn't even have LSDs. A Civic with 315hp and no LSD would be junk and go straight even on roundabouts. Honda would never throw their heritage on that. The "base" Civic is comparable to the mid thrim Corolla and therefore, priced just right.

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  Před rokem +2

      I get that but the Core GR Corolla still comes with awd which is a bonus and an expensive layout. Plus Honda could have sold this for $39k.

    • @deniscdyck
      @deniscdyck Před rokem +1

      @@CruiseControl1 The Type-R is a much more refined machine than the GR Corolla mechanically and overall finish. It has been a "top trim" last gen and this gen again. I don't think Honda would ever offer a stripped down version just to have a lower entry point price and put the Type-R's reputation at risk. The Gr Corolla is a new entry to the segment and Toyota doesn't have all the heritage to protect.
      As for the AWD, well... the Corolla understeers waaaaay more that the Type-R (based on reviews) and in practice it isn't much an advantage and adds a lot of weight, complexity and maybe long term maintenance. Yeah, it may get it off the line quicker but drag racing was never the point of the Type-R anyways.
      Also, I think Honda is targeting a different demographic this time with the car more mature and all. I have the impression that they are going after the 30-40 age demographic and they tend to not let $3-4k distract them from what they want. Boyracers have more than enough FK8s around to knock themselves out. I foresee a lot of stock FL5s around as more mature buyers will get them.

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  Před rokem +2

      Valid points and I know Honda is aiming at a more mature audience for this generation.
      I look forward to driving both the GR Corolla and the new type r, preferably back to back.
