Doctor Farmer is a modern miracle worker. He makes things work in public health which the WHO has already tried and declared undoable. He does not know the meaning of the word "can't." He just goes out and figures out how to do it, and does it.
Is Paul Farmer the result of young genius, a photographic memory, and incredible amounts of empathy?
It's a little frightening how Harvard University can turn out graduates with such vastly different levels of morality. The colleges of Business and Law serve to counterbalance all the global good accomplished by the Medical School. Good and evil. Unfettered greed against empathy and good will. The have's and the have not's. So good doctor Farmer is around to get the extremely wealthy folks to give to these health projects in poorer parts of the world.
Equity in healthcare is going to be the number one issue in the upcoming Presidential election. Trump, the GOP, and Biden and the Establishment Dems for that matter, have sold out to the health insurance and big pharma lobbyists. We'll continue having a pitiful healthcare system in this country which underserves millions and denies service completely to many millions more. Until we take the money out of politics, the corporate lobbyists will keep buying off the votes of the corrupt members of Congress. We need anti-corruption laws which prevent politicians from accepting money from any source besides individual taxpayers giving a maximum of $25. It's gotten so out of hand that public policy is being decided by the wealthiest corporations while individual voters get ignored. It's shameful. Maybe we could get doc Farmer and PIH to solve the whole American healthcare problem once and for all. It's going to take a revolution to get the health insurance industry to release their grip on American politics. The Establishment Dems killed the Sanders candidacy on behalf of the health insurance lobby. Jim Clyburn has taken the MOST money of any politician from big pharma and medical technology firms. If it weren't for his support of Biden, we'd be looking at a Sanders presidency.
Corruption in American politics on the behalf of big corporations is killing the Middle Class and polluting the planet. The wealthy political class in the US serves only the very richest people. We won't have real democracy until this power differential is permanently changed.
The health insurance companies act as bandits standing between us and our healthcare, getting a 50% cut of every dollar we spend. They provide no service and create no product besides bureaucracy and gate keeping for vital products and services we'll all eventually need. It's a completely immoral and corrupt industry that preys on the most vulnerable amongst us. Like big pharma, they're completely against any form of transparency. In fact, their lobbyists pay politicians to legislate against it, so as to shield them from any potential liability. It's an utterly greed-based industry which profits off of the withholding of healthcare from those who most need it.
The Canadians got it right. Why can't we?

Unfortunately when I read this comment Paul has passed away. It's such a shame. People need to be educated so that we can collectively make difference decisions to be able to make changes
