Uncle bro, nice video!! One of my favorite cultivars... I could buy one of these from you right? or trade for some cactus that I have? Let me know if you would sell one of these or trade for some of my pottery or cactus... Thanks again! I am heading to your website now to try and get the ball rolling on this transaction!
The Unrooted cutting rots much more often if you plant it with a fresh cut, I am trying to get good photos and videos of rotting cactus, will upload when i compile a good video on the subject. Thank you so much for the comment! ♥️🌵
If the plant you took the cuttings from was in Full Sun the cutting should be just fine in Full Sun. I water small unrooted cuttings every 1-2 Weeks, when the soil is dry.
When it is rooting i only water the pot a couple times a month. If it was a larger pot than in this video, or it was in the ground, i would be watering even less while rooting a cactus. Hope this helps, thanks for watching ❤️🌵
@@CactusUncle it’s an established cutting I propagated two years ago, I know it has roots. It’s probably 3 feet tall in a pot. I let the soil dry out and then give it a good watering but it always seems like it’s squishy wrinkly and sometimes there’s a yellowish color, I do live in Palm Springs where it’s very hot, I just don’t know what the signs mean!? Thanks for the feedback man!
Is it yellow year around? Is it yellow on the western side? The fact that its a Sonoran Desert Cactus growing in wet Florida it makes me think overwatering. Hard to say without seeing the plant though... I dont mind questions please ask away my friend! 🌵♥️
Because I do not have a permit for shipping plants internationally I doubt I can help my friend. I think I would need a phytosanitary certificate to ship to Australia. Otherwise it would likely get picked up in customs and thrown out.
@@CactusUncle I recently moved and it was put outside on the porch (previously on our other porch with more shade). It's Oklahoma, it's been very hot and sunny. I haven't watered it in over a month but it also rained a lot this weekend while I was gone. It's very black towards the top more than anything.
If its happening at the top it makes me think some kind of damage, usually sunburn. When you moved it recently did it go from a shady low light spot to full sun? Even plants that CAN technically take full sun need to be acclimatized to the new location especially if planting in seasonal extremes (summer and winter)
@@CactusUncle I think I found your cactus Facebook page, I commented a picture that hopefully could tell more. I've had my cactus for 5 years and I'm really concerned about it. I've never had this issue and I don't want to lose it.

Come see me at the nursery after the heat, We will have tons of them ready ♥️🌵
Kinda crazy how the cactus just survive. Nice tutorial!
Hi can you tell us / show us an example of what happens if we don't let the cutting callus before planting? Thank you from Australia!

Cool. When do the cuttings get water? Should cuttings be in sun or shade to root?
If the plant you took the cuttings from was in Full Sun the cutting should be just fine in Full Sun. I water small unrooted cuttings every 1-2 Weeks, when the soil is dry.
Do you add any water after repotting the callus totem?
Yes if its in a pot i water weekly, in ground i do a couple times a month. It will get skinny before it roots and then it fattens up
Can you cut it in several pieces with talll one
Yes you can, watch at the very end of the video you can see how a 'mid-cut' branches.
Do you need to water the soil you propagate it in the pot?
Yes, i propagate in spring or summer and i do water them to stimulate roots, once a week. Make sure the soil is well draining.
Do you water right after putting it in the pot? Or wait two weeks?
As long as the cutting is dry i generally water after planting, and water once a week
Hi, when I put it in the pot, do I need to water it at all?
When it is rooting i only water the pot a couple times a month. If it was a larger pot than in this video, or it was in the ground, i would be watering even less while rooting a cactus. Hope this helps, thanks for watching ❤️🌵
What size pot do you recommend for a totem cactus 🌵 like this ?
A 6inch pot is big enough for the smaller cutting like in the video, but if its over a foot tall i would do a 3gallon or 5gallon pot
What does it mean if they are squishy? I have a few big boys but at the base it’s wrinkled and soft?
Is there any discoloration? And is it an unrooted cutting like this video or is it an established Cactus? Let me know I will give advice 💪🌵

I live in phoenix. Can i just stick them in the ground??
Yes! But you should still let the cut end callous over and dry for a few days 💪🌵
@@CactusUncle thank you!!
@@thehagemahal anytime my friend
i was gifted a cutting that was already calloused...on BOTH ends. will the top end ever grow pretty ?
Yes. The cactus will branch out, usually near the top. In this video towards the end you can see some that have the top cut off with new branches ❤️🌵
