    What blows me away is just how different everything about the game was compared to today. The way it was called, the announcers, sharpe being visibly hurt but it not being a big deal to refs, announcers, or coaches. In many ways the game was purer back then, at least at face value.

      @justi139 Před 2 měsíci

      @@scottbrown7497they did have loud music after the plays. You can’t hear it on the radio. This is a radio broadcast. This doesn’t justify how loud the crowd was. The fan base was just waiting for something to explode over and when Brett threw that touchdown it was so loud and insane.

    That pass... he throws from exactly the 40. If it was untouched it would have landed 3 yards into the enzone. 43 yards. But what is crazy is that the ball is never more than 15-20 feet off the ground the whole time in the air! It's not like he launched a rainbow. It was a 43 yard laser.

    • @ckobo84
      @ckobo84 Před rokem +1

      Yeah, both passes were basically exactly the same. Makes sense, you have the corner beat by a mile so not much loft needed, just got to get it there before the safety can get over.

      You forgot to include the width of the field. He threw it from a little left of the center of the hashmarks. Let's assume it would have landed on the sideline. Half the field is 26.67 yards, so let's say 28 yards across. A little Pythagorean theorem and it was actually a 51 yard throw.

    I remember watching this game. Cool having the radio announcers Jim Irwin and Max McGee. Obviously amazing comeback. I was a little surprised how critical Irwin and McGee were. I think today’s announcers are more polite or more indirect. Irwin, McGee, none of us really had any idea of the upcoming success and genius of the Wolf/Holmgren/ Favre era.
    Also, looks like Sterling Sharpe may have hyperextended his abdominal muscles on the sweet catch.

    I’m a Browns fan. I remember watching this game. People have to remember that the Packers were terrible for a couple or three decades. This drive changed everything for them. They became a legit team overnight with Favre. Tom Brady did the same for the Pats in 2001, though New England wasn’t nearly as awful as GB. They had some recent playoff success with Bledsoe but they weren’t the NE dynasty that won 10+ games for 15 or so years straight. Anyways, I’m glad I got to see this moment live. And I’m glad it happened to a division rival of the Browns.

    You can say this game really changed the courses of both franchises. The Bengals were 2-0 and were doing really well. The knocked out Magik and had this unproven back up called Brett Favor I mean Favre. The Packers were 0-2 and going on 0-3 if they had lost this game. It would have just been another mediocre year like in 1991 where they fell off a cliff. The Bengals were terrible at 3-13 the year before. With new coaches Dave Shula for the Bengals and Mike Holmgren this was it. That last Packer drive showed that Favre was going to be an up and comer. The Bengals just collapsed after this game. They would only win 3 more games and lose their next 11 counting this game. They would lose 5 straight games including this game. The Packers on the other hand would finish the season 9-7 and miss out on the playoffs, but they were heading in the right direction. The Bengals would be the Bungals up until 2005 where they finally had a winning record. It wasn't until 2021 when the Bengals that they finally won a playoff game and made to a Super Bowl.
