Dickie Bird, umpiring, said that Rod Marsh yelled 'Stand your ground, stand your ground' at Randall, hence Rod's clear anger when Randall didn't and had to be run out by him.

Derek should have stood his ground.

It was Boycott's call. Easy single. Boycott went on to score a hundred

But Derek Randall's not as selfish as Boycott. He did the decent thing and sacrificed himself. In a sense, the sacrifice was worth it because Boycott went on to make a century, and had that wonderful 215 stand with Alan Knott. England won the match and Randall and Boycott were together as England scored the winning runs on the 5th day. It was just a terrible blunder by Boycott, a dreadful mistake.

@@anthonydent5798 It was not an easy single. Did you watch what I watched?
      1) The ball barely dribbles the length of the pitch from what wasn't much more than a forward defensive. In T20 in 2024 they run singles to shots like that, not
      2) Boycott hit it to leg and Thomson comes right across to cut off the ball and is in Randall's way. Randall couldn't have run if he wanted to, without smashing into Thomson.
There was no single on at all, let alone an "easy" one.

Love the way Thommo nonchalantly flicks ball to Marsh to effect thevru out.
What was Boycs thinking ? Thee was no run in that..
Don't know the scenario , but I wouldn't have sacrificed my wicket. Good on Randall though. Team man & all that sort.

Easy single if he had gone first time.

Boycott probably didn’t call, he was a notoriously bad runner

@@HHM706if the ball is hit in front of the wicket then it's the batsman's call. Behind the wicket other guy cos the batsman can't see where it has gone.

Not when Thomson has just run right across Randall's path and stopped Randall from going anywhere.

Easy single. People are too quick to blame Boycott.

Almost no description here by Arlott: "Boycott pushes back, there must be a run out here". Would have been helpful if he could have explained it.

    Boycott’s call

  • @ianguessed
    @ianguessed Před 3 měsíci

Boycott went on to score 107 in that innings. In the second innings, Boycott 80 n.o. and Randall 19 n.o. saw England through to a seven wicket victory. It was just one of those things but all was well that ended well.
