      Why do they not have a transition visor like the Klim Pro? Is that also a policy of safety?

  • @iNFiN3
    @iNFiN3 Před 9 měsíci +68

    The statement that they will never forsake their beliefs for the sake of sales is the only reason you need to buy an Arai, yes they are pricey, but they also back it up with the highest quality on exterior and interior, and lets be real, that price, over the span of 3-5 years is nothing compared to what you get. So thanks Mr. Arai for everything you done for the safety of your users.

    • @flippy66

      22:50 - Arai helmets are not the safest just because they say they are.That statement alone is just marketing.
      Arai are known to be good for much more reason than just that statement, but if you make your buying decisions based "only" (your word) on a statement, you're a fool.

      This helmet lacks the usual exterior quality tho.
      The rear extraction vents are roughly cut out, I never saw another helmet’s vent (even in 50$ cheapos) so badly refined. What the fuck were they thinking.

    I’ve owned many helmets, mostly for track riding, but always have an Arai full face and an Arai XD-4 around, and those are the ones I actually wear out. My poor XD-4 is well used, awaiting the long-anticipated release of the XD-5. Just as this reviewer noted, I had slight discomfort and a red line on the first day’s ride with my latest Corsair, but, after that, it has fit perfectly. I’ve also crashed (not heavily, but enough to grind the face shield and front vent system) with no failure and no injury. I think these helmets are worth every penny, and am glad Arai sticks to their design philosophy.

    I just bought the X4 for from a certain motorcycle apparel store in Guildford.... They're clearing out their old X4s, picked a graphics option up for £360, so I'm very happy with it.

      This. I do not believe the X5 is that much better to pay extra 400 gbp for it. Yes, it has some great features, I especially like increased safety, the quick visor release and prep for intercom but I would struggle to pay almost 2x of what the X4 price is currently. Curious how the plastic screws will hold up and will wait for a promo on x5 in the future.

    Arai Signet-Q saved my life back in 2019 in a violent crash I have had. First head/helmet impact was with the asphalt road when I've lost conscious afterwards there had to be many more, one of bigger ones witha tree near the road. There were pieces of wood stuck around the "hinge" a place where a visor is fixed to the helmet. Although that part is underneath a plastic cover. It took me 7months to start slowly walking again. Do not cheap out on your gear, especially not on a crucial pieces like helmet, boots,.. Ride safe everyone.

    Aw man, this was such a good review, complete with comments from Arai’s founder. Would love to see more of that. Awesome. I started with Shoei, then got an Arai and never looked back. I have a street, track, and ADV helmets which i replace every 4 years, so I buy a lot of helmets, and all of them are white Arai for the safety Arai provides and the visibility white adds when riding. Very tempted by that red, white, and blue XD-5 though, but my XD-4 is only 2 years old .

    I had horrific water leaking on the visor of my TX4 (with pin-lock fitted) .... tried everything I could think of to no avail. Even the local importer tried to 'fix' it, also to no avail. • @SoDakTwisties
    @SoDakTwisties Před 9 měsíci +3

    An internal sun visor has always been a must-have feature on my helmets because I don't like wearing sunglasses or having to carry a clear and dark shield. Because of that, I'd always gone for Shoei helmets. I had gotten sick of Shoei's relationship with Sena (their QC and support have fallen off a cliff in recent years) and so I voted with my wallet. Picked up an Arai Contour-X for last season, and I absolutely love it. I wish it had an internal sun visor, but I do respect Arai's commitment to safety and refusing to compromise on that. They stick to their principles!

    Just recently saw this (and that the 5 was released) I’ve had an XD4 until recently when it was stolen. It’s the first helmet I’ve owned that just “fit” perfectly. I put thousands of miles on it on my DR650 and even my softtail when I took the peak off. It was stolen from my garage along with a bunch of other stuff so I was in the market again for another. Ended up trying an xp9 bell helmet. Definitely cheaper, much louder. Wanted to wait until the 5 was on the shelves in stores so I could try it. The bell is a budget helmet and I guess I was spoiled. Wish they had MIPS but comfort alone was almost better alone.

    Please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't Arai testing methods more stringent than other tests? Have they not discarded helmets that have passed ECE and Snell but discarded them because they did not meet their own standards? If this is true, then shouldn't the name, "Arai", be sufficient enough if buying a helmet based upon safety ratings?

    While I get that Arai won't make a modular or drop down sun visor for safety reasons as they want maximum protection, they kind of contradict themselves by still making open face helmets. You would think a modular would be safer than an open face.

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  Před 9 měsíci

      I agree in principle, but Arai's argument is that the first lids they made were open-face. Also, that they would only make a modular lid the chin bar would sheer off safely when ridden in open if crashed, but also be as protective as a full-face when ridden in closed.

      I thought I was going to get the Neotec 3 and tried one on but it felt quite heavy, but maybe I was having a bad day or something!
      I love Arai and have 2, but I want to do a lot of riding in warmer places and would like the flexibility and convenience of a modular. My X4 is lighter than the Neotec 3 and I was looking at carbon modulars, maybe a Scorpion or AGV.
      I was wanting to get a good one that weighs under 1600g. Maybe AGV will come up with a better version of their Sportmodular next year 🤷.
      Presumably the Neotec 3 will have the same issues that Arai say do not work for them.
      I think Arai do versions where you can just remove the chin bar don't they? That's not quite as convenient as a flip back modular design though, which would be my ideal, but it's getting the right combination, as safety and good quality are prime considering for me.

    I just purchased the xd-4 (US version) after watching this. The only real improvement I see is the visor shape making pin lock easier to use. Every other change for me wasn’t worth waiting for. Visor changes still require a tool, who cares if it’s only 1 screw vs 2. The visor is slightly longer…no big deal. Routing intercom wires was easy in both so , meh. Pretty much the same helmet with a different visor.

    The argument that an internal visor is a compromise of safety is starting to get old. You can argue that a cheap Chinese made helmet compromises but you cant say that about Shoei or Schuberth.
    I respect that they stay true to their believes but cmon.....
    As someone else already mentioned, one should ask mr Arai about the importance of being able to see what's in front of you with sun glare in your eyes or how safe does he think is wearing sunglasses. As a man wearing glasses all the time I can say that removing them from your forehead after a crush is not a nice experience.

    40k miles so far on my Tour x4, have nothing but praise for the helmet (maybe except for the pinlock fit)... But I don't like the new design at all. The peak looks cheesy and offers less protection for the visor in the open position (90% the time where it is), so I'm going to buy the old model again. BTW, wheel weights will scratch the visor when the peak is in the lowest position, so not recommended...
