  • After a 12-year wait, the latest version of Arai’s popular adventure helmet is here. The Tour-X5 is an update of the helmet that took Ewan and Charley around the world and launched the whole crossover phenomenon.
Lots has changed in Arai’s design ethos over the last 12 years, and much of the progress is obvious in the Tour-X5.
Rounder, safer, better vision, new ventilation options and slicker intercom compatibility lead the charge. And changing visors became a lot simpler as there’s no need to remove the peak to make that swap.
We’ve worn the helmet on Spanish roads and trails, and experienced grotty British winter weather to bring you our comprehensive review of an important helmet for Arai.

the shot taken right inside the helmet. That's refreshing. We need more of this type of helmet review.
Brings viewers closer to what the rider is seeing through the helmet. Thanks for that

Fantastic review but staying with the X4. Better looking IMO, better venting, visor stays put in a variety of positions (a big plus on the X4), slightly lighter, better sizing options, and the peak vibration on the 5 sounds annoying. And it's expensive. It looks like they missed the mark to me. Everyone else is doing lighter composites and when you're doing distances, as we do with Adv riding, lighter is better, assuming you have same protection of course.

Very good review , I will stay with my current Shoei since I ride more road than adventure . Alain & Yellow

I'm sure it's good, but nothing justifies that price when you've got serious competition at more competitive prices. I'm going for a ADF-9000 rather than this because I simply don't see the advantages of the Arai. It's no lighter, no sun visor. The Scorpion has a sun visor, a smoke visor, a pinlock, plus all the features Arai have taken 12 years to provide (like easy removal of peak and visor). Sorry but Arai milked the X4 for over a decade and I don't see how they're doing anything better than anyone else now.

Thanks for the video. Any chance of showing a typical comms install?

These are pretty lengthy already so we don't want to go down that route and extend them any further. Hopefully someone out there has a video showing these things. Cheers, Tony

they made us wait so long and even longer in US. Would buy one of these and switch between xd-4.

Arai has changed the sizes in Australia - the XL is now 60-61 and theres no XXL available for now.. stupid move on two accounts.

They aren’t making in all the same sizes as the X/XD4 🤷‍♂️ that’s the end of the road for me and Arai.

Excellent review...Arai have shown the new Tour X 5 fitted with various iridium/ tinted visors, will you be stocking these...? ( they were on the helmets at the NEC show, and on the Arai website) Cheers Steve

If the UK importer brings those visors into the country then we will stock them, yes. Cheers, Tony

Does the peak not stay put in various positions like the xd4?

That’s kind of a design flaw then at high speeds in windy weather!?

Dear Tony, could you suggest me a full face helmet that has very good ventilation, couse i live in a country with very hot summer, and also be quiet as possible, but not pay over 400e?

If you're going for adventure style then take a look at the Scorpion ADF-9000 Air. Or for a straight fullface, I found the HJC i71 to be very good on venting. Cheers, Tony

Huge shame they made it even heavier than the previous generation, which was already too heavy. I had high hopes for this next generation but it seems I'll be looking at other options for my next helmet.
