    The book is one of the best I've read in many years, and it is actually the first and only book that made me seriously cry. The movie is ok, but they have changed too many things in the plot for no reason but making it look more "hollywood style"...read the book, that's the real masterpiece

    I finally got around to seeing this film and am astounded at Sophie Nelisse's performance, thinking she should have won something....which, come to discover, she did win many somethings. What a movie! Makes me realize Germans suffered great oppression in their own society by their own military. So many had no choice but to abide the Nazi party. What a senseless cause which started that war.

    I know from a friend who is American the history of Europe is a blank space completely for most of the youngsters in America today. I am 20, and I've had to learn about world wars and Hitler etc. when I was 12 or 13 years old, and so does my cousin who is 9 years younger than me. In Europe, we are aware, we know what happened, the horrors our families and nation suffered, we are reminded by older generations every day... And I'm glad. And if this great movie helped at least few Americans, who had no idea, understand that it's more than just a movie, I'm glad for that, too.

    Interesting part in which both actors pointed out the need for education on this massive and important part of history. World War II was a game changer to the world it introduced civilizations into the modern era with all it's greed and power; lest to say Nazism had a concept of building generation of purity and book destruction by many good authors (which also defined there thoughts about power) where tried to be eliminated. Nonetheless to say it was also a racial war and many had to pay the price like in many other world conflicts.
    Nice video keep it up :) !
    Kurt.

    Literally if you watched just the movie you know nothing. The books so sad, but soooo good. It sheds more light of Liesel and Rudy relationship, Hans is a huge sweetheart in the book, and it misses such important movements in the movies. Plus the moments with Max is way better and momentous in the book. Seriously read the book its so good. Also am I the only one who's read the book?

    As a World War II historian the movie was wonderful!!! Definitely gives you a snapshot of lives in that time. I don't know how those people did what they did and got through that time!! Some of the strongest people ever!! Hopefully the Ukraine people of today can use these individuals as inspiration!! Never give up and always find a way!!!

    also the dress the actress is wearing is similar to the first sexy dress i had when i was fifteen precisly the patern of the dress , but the colour of the dress was navy and not brow like the colour of the dress of the actress . unfortunatly in 2018 during my visit to algeria i took my dress with me to investigate why i had this dress precisly , but amel rouichi roiffice and agoudjil madina had stolen this dress from my items with my laptop and made the kidnaping over night after that . i have never found the dress again despite i have pictures of it , the same for my laptop . amina rouichi

    The thing is maybe she doesn't know about a lot of it because she's American. I mean because in Britain the topic is explained to us from a very early age because it was a travesty and we were a key part in it since the start, America joined in later and helped us out ALOT but weren't a key part at the start and also because it had a major part in the woman's rights movement, if we hadn't has ww2 maybe woman in Britain wouldn't have as many rights

    • @bethanchalmers912
      @bethanchalmers912 Před 10 lety +1

      Sorry, didn't know!
      But really the same thing applies , I wasn't saying that America didn't do it especially I was just commenting on how much Britain does it.

      Bethan Chalmers
      We do learn it but only at the age of 16 or so because for the most part we learn about the history of Canada (and Quebec mostly since it began there) and the first nations. Some of my friends didn't even have a class on the world wars in high school! I had the chance t learn it since I had a great teacher but I think we do have to rethink our history classes it is way too self centered. sorry for the bad english, I'm french canadian :)

      @bethanchalmers912 Před 10 lety +1

      I'm still very impressed with you English, I could not speak such fluent french, yeah that is strange because we start learning about at 12

    • @bethanchalmers912
      @bethanchalmers912 Před 9 lety

      ***** You have very good points but alas not relating to my comment, I never claimed that we are fully informed about the holocaust or the two world wars, I never claim it's not biased, I know that we essentially invented concentration camps in Africa, I know that although he is portrayed as this grumpy ultra Christian man Oliver Cromwell helped bring back the Jews into England, I sometimes have to roll my eyes when we do 'Scottish wars of independence ' because I know it's incredibly biased. And again these are things we need to consider when thinking about our education system but again, that was not what my comment was about. And yes I was informed earlier that she was Canadian not American, I'm sorry about my mistake.
      You see the point in my comment was that British schools teach us at the age of 12 about WWII and continue in secondary school, and it's probably because we, as a nation, were so impacted by it and a key part in it, I also mentioned the huge impact it had on women's rights.
      I also don't think Churchill was a saint, he was probably a unpleasant man but he was what the country needed at the time, someone who was reasonably fearless,, that's my opinion on him.
      So although your points are all very interesting, a reply to my comment, it is not.

    • @bethanchalmers912
      @bethanchalmers912 Před 9 lety

      ***** But again even your reply to my reply is not getting the simple point, I understand the majority of these factors and they are very interesting and important facts and I love talking abouit historical inaccuracies let me tell you but.... it really has very little to do with my comment, I know your probably bubbling with passion for this topic which is great, maybe you should start a blog, or just start a comment chain of your own so more people can discuss easier with you, you see? Though as I said all very interesting but then again history always is. And yes I don't know where I would be without my multiregional dvd player
