I’ve been meaning to ask that Lachesis question for years. Thank you.

49:45 - Well, he SUCCEEDED at that - at making the story "re-readable" with new recognitions about the early books. I've had that happen over and over. Some of those things are so small they seem entirely trivial on first reading, and you don't pay any attention at all to them. But later, when you know things, they jump up off the page and pop you right in the face. My favorite example of this is when Harry is interrogating the photographer Donny Wise in Storm Front - he tells Harry that in the Sells lake house that night were Linda, some other woman, and three men. Well, the other woman was Helen Beckitt, and two of the three men were Sells himself and Greg Beckitt. But who the heck was that third man? He's never mentioned or accounted for - he's a hanging loose end. I figure it was Sell's mentor, and we run across that same character again and again later in the series. Fabulous writing!

What's with the edit at 9:29 which cuts out the answer to a really interesting question?

I must apologize for that. I had not realized there was a glitch. I went back to the original and found the same problem. As I never stopped the camera I must assume there was some glitch in the memory that failed to record correctly. Unfortunately I don't remember how he answered it, either. Sorry.

As I remember it, Jim responds that Harry is a chauvinist because that gives him the most problems. He responds to women in danger in a way that men can recognize as honorable, if a bit misguided, and is almost always punished for doing so (either by the women he's "protecting," or the enemies who exploit his weakness). In short, it's a good way to hurt Harry, and given the choice, Jim always defaults to hurting Harry.
I'm the guy that asks the question at 45:20. Thanks for putting this up.

The tv series was great, as long as you haven’t read the book. I loved it.
