  • Bicycle Vlog 20: ‘Amazing Hospitality’ - We leave Shiraz and set out for the port City of Bandar Abbas, where we plan on catching the ferry to Dubai. A lot of interested people invite us to come and stay at their house, even when we have barely cycled a couple of miles. It is still early so we politely thank them and get the wheels rolling again. Every now and then we need a proper WiFi connection to upload these videos and plan on doing that in the town of Darian in the Fars Province. There is no hotel and with the sun going down we get numerous invitations from nearly everybody standing around us. The man that asked us first is a real gentleman and we accept his offer. A festive evening, a lovely morning and to our surprise he and his cousin ask us to come and see Persepolis, the Ceremonial Capital of the great Persian Empire: What a treat! His cousin is keen on having us come and stay as well and we can’t decline his invitation. Maudi learns to weave a traditional Persian carpet and we eat a wonderful Iranian meal together. His extended family comes out to meet us, we listen to his brother play a beautiful song on a special type of flute and spend a wonderful time together. They ask us to stay a week, a month and even longer… but the rest of Iran is calling so we say our goodbyes and set out on the road again.
To see, feel, smell, hear and taste everything the road has to offer will be so much different than watching a documentary or reading a book about it. Sometimes it will be difficult and most of the time fantastic. We hope you will find inspiration in our video's and maybe fuel your dreams as so many other have done for us.

What a truly beautiful country! Its so sad that the Western media portray Iran in such a poor way, but when one sees videos like this and read accounts of peoples travels there, it is always so apparent how wonderful and friendly Iranian people are! Iran is at the top of my list of places to visit.

My friend, i can understand that western politicians prefer to show IRAN as they like to show it . what i dont understand is , when it comes to western medias i dont know what do they benefit from of showing IRAN as poor, uncivilised country with people who are savages. IRAN didnt come to the world when this crazy Mullahs took the power from Iran previous king.

@Wheels to Wander. Lovely! This hospitality reminds me so much of Greece. I have been many times to Greece, and always did I get food, presents, and so much love. I can remember that we were driving in the mountains ending up in a village at around noon. We where treated with extra's at the restaurant from the house, which happened to us so often all around Greece.
Then my girlfriend got a ring from the grandmother that we had been talking to, which she made herself. Then another man in a pickup truck came by and stayed just 15 minutes.
Not to use/waste anyone's elses time I tried to refuse this mans kindness. He was then saying that next time I should call him, and he'll show me around. I said yes I'll do that! Then he said goodbye and left. We were still not finished eating and continued until 1 hour later.
Then we said goodbye to the lovely people of the restaurant as well and went on our way. We drove about 1 hour further until we arrived at a village at the coast, and who did we find? that man from the pickup truck that we met in the mountains! He was with another man at a cafenion where men love to be at. He slammed his hand on the table and said: ""aaaahhhhh!" he was soo excited. He said: come! come! I'll show you something. We got into his pickup truck. He drove straight out of the village. Stopped in front of a gate of his own land, he opened it and he gave us two massive bags and said: pick everything you see! Fill it up! Grab everything!
Really. Those memories, I got so many of these incredible experiences. I almost defend and love this land and it's peoples to death, simply because my heart has been overfilled so many times.

Again wonderful Images! I might not seem to be the most objective person in my reactions, but Eric knows me well enough in telling how I feel about things! I always try to be honest in that and try to speak with my heart only! In this video my expectations met the truth. I knew about the hospitality of the Turks but I have heard only of the extreme Iranian hospitality from friends! And they were not exaggerated. These people are of a kind we westerners could learn from in terms of kindness and sharing. And I believe they must be happier then we are! But of course that's my opinion... Anyway, I'm glad that some of my opinions were wrong and be able to adjust them by the experience seen in these video's!! Lovely.. Have a very nice ongoïng journey Maudi and Eric... Love you and love the world a bit more through sharing your video's!!! Also congrats with your mother's birthday Eric....

Thanks Paps! Maybe you will visit Iran someday... Very openminded and welcoming. And you are right that the west could learn a thing or two. Happy though is a thing one can find only in his/hers own mind, no matter the place on the planet. Life is a strange gift that plays out archetypical stories. Everywhere we see people having fun and everyone has some struggles one way or the other. As we experience it luck is on our western side, only most are too fatigued by easy to see it. Love you! E&M

Have you ever watched an interview with film producer KEN BURNS? You look a little alike, sound simular! Same story telling passion! Saw him on PBS.

The name was familiar, just now I googled him. What an accomplished filmmaker, a big compliment to be compared with him. For sure we want to check out some of his documentaries and that PBS interview. Thanks for sending this flattering comment ;.)
