  • A pictorial collection of abandoned and disused structures in Tasmania. Strictly speaking, not all of the structures featured in this video are abandoned or disused, many of the convict built bridges and dwellings are still sound and in use, many that had fallen into disrepair have since been restored. This volume is as much a story of abandoned things as it is a showcase of convict built colonial architecture in Tasmania.
Video and Stills - Chris Raine
Audio - Summer Wine ( Nancy Sinatra - Lee Hazlewood )
Those Were The Days My Friend ( Mary Hopkin )

Thank you. To enhance the visual experience I thought that having some sentimental tunes may evoke feelings of sadness and nostalgia .

Check out the lost picnic ground at Denison Gorge 3km along the railway track from Lebrina. One day it will become a camp and recreational park as part of the north east railtrail. Plus a steam train running shuttles between the two.

Great pics. How precious are those sites - we have seen some in our travels, but not many. Let's hope the borders open soon.

WAIT before you think these places are abandoned they are not really telling you the truth. at 9:02 is a great example of the problem with this video. This house was ravaged by fire just after being rebuilt in the early 2000's It is near a place called Duck Reach which is an abandoned power station in the Historic Gorge that runs through West Launceston. What you are not seeing is the two homes that have people living in them that are next door. Launceston has a population of 68,000 people and growing it is the second-largest city in Tasmania. Some of the places are small townships not abandoned and the video is incorrect. Take the time and come visit us Tasmania in this video is not dead.

Sorry that the title irks you. Would 'Abandoned, vacant, run down and neglected buildings of Tasmania ' sound better ?
