He also has a slash line of .233/.299/.344 (OPS+85) 33BB to 79K. WAR should be used to as a "tie breaker" when comparing players with similar stats not used as a main stat over others.

@@ketch0_041 WAR is the overall compilation of those different "main stats" into total value. I agree those individual stats shouldn't be ignored, but you can't just pick one element and argue it outweighs overall WAR. That's especially true of a position like catcher, where defense is such a huge part of a player's overall value, and you have to get into advanced metrics to try and quantify that.

For william contreras he also plays just about every game, if he is not catching he is a DH.

@@sir.muffiniii7011Because Murphy is trash this year compared to Smith. Smith has an OPS+ of 113, whereas Murphy only has an OPS+ of 91. Smith also has the highest CS% for a catcher this year so far.

As a Cubs fan, if I had the opportunity to trade Amaya and his contract for Willson and his contract straight-up, I wouldn't do it. Next year Miguel is gonna be in All-Star.

JT in middle tier is genuinely ridiculous. He’s been producing consistently offensively and defensively since getting to Philly, tough season bc of injuries but he’s still producing

Yea, I mean come on, he caught a no hitter a week into the season, was a strike away from catching a 2nd no hitter, and caught 2 other games that were no hitters deep into the 7th inning. And he's a top 3 hitting catcher this year.

Will Smith being left off the elite list is a travesty. He's literally ranked #4 all time right now when it comes to fielding % for catchers. He also has a 33% caught stealing percentage leading the league. William Contreras for comparison is at 19%. This dude didn't take any defense into account when making this list.

I think Adley is playing hurt, his drop off pretty much goes right in line with him taking a pitch off the hand. Wouldn't be suprised if in November we find out he gets some sort of operation to fix something.

i understand this year smiths numbers aren’t there but adley doesn’t have the years will smith does and has also slowed down. smith has been putting up numbers as soon as he got in the league and has been elite and went under the radar until he got his finally deserved all star appearances. i still think he’s elite. now is he gonna be elite next year idk maybe not but i think he still deserves the elite if adleys there. his defensive is also WAYYYY better this year. cause if we’re going based off this year then salvy is back to elite if we’re being honest. i mean all star is still a good ranking cause he’s literlsly an all star but still think he deserves elite till he officially falls off. he was great to start the season but then injuries he HAD to perform and be a 2 or 3 hole hitter and then his bat went pretty cold.
You lost me at Keibert Ruiz in the bottom tier. I get it, if you look at his stats they aren’t breathtaking, but I watch nearly every nationals game and this dude is fun to watch especially when he gets hot.
JT HAS to be in All Star at minimum. JT has one of (if not the fastest) pop times in baseball, elite elite arm and still mid at framing. Plus he's been above average offensively this year. He's also 8th in WAR for catchers, even after missing a lot of time.
I understand if you’re not a Chicago fan you don’t know but Amaya has been on fire recently batting over .300 and slamming home runs for over a month now taking his .189 batting average to now slightly above average batting average I’m not saying he’s an all star but he should have probably been alright I mean he’s been arguably our best batter for a month now

I'm not sure I would put any catchers at elite in comparison to the catchers up until the 2000s. You had guy who could catch and mash. It seems that it's a harder game to be able to be solid on both sides of the ball.

I reapect the will smith take but I feel he should be elite despite the slump this year because even with the slump he has been just as good as cal raleigh offensively and has had much improved defense while also having the track record. 🤓👆

He should be elite. He makes every single pitcher on the team significantly better, and no other catcher in the league is even close in that sense. For sure under valuing ie putting guys in 1-2 count vs 2-1 every day. Look at the differences in offensive numbers when even 1 pitches is swapped to a strike it kills hitters.
Yeah I still believe Murphy is an all star catcher but he almost always gets flexed out over TDA because he is one of the best hitters on the Braves. With Ozuna being one of if not the best hitters in baseball. Murphy has been a starting caliber backup for the most part even though outside the bat, Murphy has been better.

As a stros fan, i am little worried about Yanier fading as he ages. His swing seems so noisy and has extra movement. He seems super athletic and had plenty of power though. Don't @ me for my scouting takes i work a desk job.

I think this list was overall good, but I think O'Hoppe was ranked a bit high. I think as a catcher you need to be better defensively. I know he is on the Angels but I don't think .742 OPS with his defense is warranting All-Star (just yet). I think he gets there eventually but I wouldn't put him there yet.

Honestly Connor Wong might end up being a platoon C/1B/2B/3B/LF by the end of his career. A really good athlete but I like Danny Jansen catching more.

Btw Marc, Jacob Stallings is not our starting catcher, We cut Elias Diaz and brought up our top catching prospect Drew Romo. So Romo is our starter and Jacob is the backup still
