  • As lambing appears to be in a bit of a reprieve... Chemo continues each day this week for poor Jess.
    We were feeling pretty confident that our new pain maintenance strategy was working as her first few days were great!
    But by Thursday morning, reality sank in as we could see that she indeed she was not great.
    Meanwhile, back on the farm... work still needed done.
    We scanned our ewes that will be lambing in the fall... and for once, our results were awesome!
    I'm stuck with a few orphan lambs that WILL NOT DRINK from the nanny...
    The nanny is acting up again...
    And our golden girls needed some assistance cleaning up their pasture.

    The nurse in me just wants to get on a plane, show up at your door, and take care of Jess. 1) you probably wouldn’t appreciate a random unsolicited stranger showing up at your door to take care of your kid. And 2) You and Mark are doing such a great job. You got this. Jess has got this. Take each day as it comes. And know that so many of us are looking for an excuse to help; You have our support, our thoughts, our prayers, and our well wishes.

      Yes this! I wish I could jump in the car and head there to help anyway possible. I would take the barn shifts free of charge, I mean who wouldn’t want to spend their time in there with the sheep and lambs anyway lol, clean house, cook meals, sit with Jess so mom and dad could take a breather etc.

      @ADKEMT Před rokem +7

      @@michelleolive4466 I would totally do barn chores too. I miss the farm. As a teen I spent a lot of time working on my aunt and uncle’s sheep farm. It got me through some hard times. Now, whenever I’m overwhelmed, feeling unanchored, or lost in a sea of fluorescent lights and night shifts, I go back to a friend’s farm. It’s grounding. The connection to the cycles of the earth, the routine of chores, the freshness maintained by a short supply chain, and the whole farming community of (both figuratively and literally) down to earth people. Damn it, now I need some farm time.

    Thank you and Jess for being willing to share. So many of us have to travel this path, but don’t really know what lies ahead. My sister had leukemia 10 years ago and was in and out of the hospital for most of that first year. The chemo put her into ICU, she was allergic to the blood transfusions, she reacted strangely to some of the medications…..it was the worst year of our lives! To watch her suffer was agony. Some days I wondered if we were just torturing her. I am happy to report that we all survived it - our brother was a perfect match for her and she had a bone marrow transplant and is now cured of leukemia!!! I completely understand the emotional rollercoaster you described in this video…. I can still feel the echos of that experience in my own heart. Just keep breathing, take one step at a time. So many of us are rooting for you and your sweet Jess. And doesn’t she look so beautiful without her hair?!?! My sister’s hair grew back very thick and very curly!! Can’t wait to see Jess’s post chemo hair!❤❤

    Sandi, my Dad had very similar reactions to Chemo, as Jess. He became “allergic”, and had to take medication the entire time he had chemo treatments. His treatments were for 6 months, and it was the l-o-n-g-e-s-t 6 months ever. I balanced my time between his house and my house during that time. Dad has been cancer free since April. He is gaining strength every day, and able to do more. He’s putting on weight, and his hair is steadily growing back.
    You guys are going to make it through this! One day, you and Mark are going to look back at this time and wonder how in the world you made it through this. My Momma heart aches for you. We never want to see our kids hurt or sick, no matter what age they are. Please try to make some time for yourself when you can. I know it’s difficult, but you have to be able to “recharge your batteries” so you can be there for Jess, during this difficult time. Maybe I can help you understand ( if this comes off as rude, please know it’s not intended to ). Jess has had repeated tumors, all have been benign until the last 1 . So, to prevent more tumors and to off shoot them being malignant, her doctors felt that chemo was necessary to ward off more malignant tumors. Chemo is hard and cancer is a b**ch. Remember, we don’t have access to her labs and other test. And at times in my career I have often wondered the same thing. But I have also seen miraculous outcomes. This is the hardest part, what Jess is going through now, but we have to pray and believe ( and I truly believe ) that the outcome will be good. Positive attitude and a strong support system is EVERYTHING ! And as Sandi’s ‘ online flock ‘ we must be exactly that…strong and positive. 💗🤗🐑💗

    Sandi you are such a strong amazing woman, obviously a very caring and compassionate person and Jess' strength when she has none. You've helped so many of us through so much without even knowing it. EVERYONE needs someone or a place to just let it out.
    Thank you for allowing us to be the place that you can just let it out. Don't ever feel bad for getting upset or venting or feel like you're not doing enough because you are doing way more than anyone would ever expect from you. All 1 million + of us are here for you. Not just for the sheep or the babies or the dogs... we're all here for YOU Sandi. Sending love
