- It is very difficult to find gay movies that have happy endings. That is why I set out to find TEN epic gay movies that end happily. Not all of these are happy movies per se, but they all sure leave us saying happily ever after!

So many of you have been recommending many other amazing gay movies that end happily and I couldn't be more thankful to you all. Not only to get this video to 60k views! But also to fill others with happiness with so many great films. I will probably make a second part to this in the future as I couldn't fit every film I wanted. But thank you all for your recommendations, you are all awesome! ❤
Now you can add "Red,white and royal blue" into this list!
I was about to say. Which one is getting bumped
When I watch Gods Own Country, I don't see dark. I see a young man confronted by his slim possibilities in life, and immediately realizes he is responsible for changing the empty. I personally feel it is number one on this list.
I’m in TOTAL agreement! My favorite gay themed movie. Not all touching movies in this genre have to be humorous.
Brilliant film
One of my favourite films ever! Incredibly told story)
I could not agree more.
Same! Just perfect movie ❤
The acting in God's Own Country is spectacular. A gritty moving story and the acting in the final scene will leave you in tears.
I love that movie! One of the best for sure ❤️
I agree. The final scene is life enhancing and very moving too.
@@jslasher1 It almost moved me to tears. And I'm not one to cry so easily.
So little dialogue! It's quiet, intense and pretty much everything that needs to be said is expressed through looks and gestures. A touch, a smile, checking the seasoning... it's masterfully done.
GOC od the movie of the quiet. Amazing movie, amazing actress, and best last scene. I love you without say that words.
"Maurice" is missing from this list. One of the first gay movies with a happy ending. a great great foundational film
💋💋🤤🤤😍😍🤭🤭😇😇
Great movie!! First happy-ending gay movie I had ever seen. It’s on my shelf.
Rupert Graves was totally miscast. He just was totally unconvincing as Alec. He was perfect for his role in Room with a View, but for a convincing under gamekeeper, no.
'God's Own Country' is probably one of the most beautiful romantic films (gay or straight) of the past 20 years. It's a masterpiece that has never received the recognition it deserves. Thanks for including it here.
Fair Haven is such a hidden gem...beautifully made
couldn't agree more!
I loved “Fair Haven”! I don’t see it on many lists but it is a good film. There should have been more interaction between the two male characters, but it does have a nice ending like it says in the video.
Shelter was one of my first and turns my heart. 5 of these are always on my list for a fun fest
I love Shelter! ❤️
My Beautiful Laundrette is my favorite. Such an unexpected beautiful and happy romance, given when it was made and who the characters are.
I loved that film too. It was pretty ground-breaking for its time, but seems to have been all but forgotten.
@@jacquie2004 Does it have a happy ending though? I feel like everything was left open.
@@thorium222 I think it did. It was left rather ambiguous, but I think they were ok.
I forgot that one! I thought for sure DDL was gonna get his first nod 4 that! He was riveting! 😃😃💋💋😇😇
@@thorium222 it is open but leaves you in a hopeful note
You forgot to include "Big Eden" which is my favorite gay film. It is an interesting twist on the "coming out" and "acceptance" themes because Henry Hart's home town is more accepting of Henry and his sexuality than Henry is of himself. The town conspires together to make Henry end up with the right man (Pike Dexter) who has been harboring feelings for Henry for years. A beautiful film. You can find it here on CZcams.
Wow I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds interesting. You definitely don’t see that kind of storyline often. Thanks for the recommendation ❤️
I was also surprised to see it wasn’t included
“Big Eden” is such a feel-good film, one that deserves more exposure.
Yes yes yes! This movie is so underappreciated but it so damn good
It also costars iconic actor Louise Fletcher from Star Trek Deep Space Nine and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.
God's Own Country is a stunning film! Yes, it feels quite bleak initially, but watching an angry, frustrated and deeply lonely young man learn to love and be happy is just beautiful.
Agreed! Sometimes we meet people that change us for the better
The lack of diversity is kind of impressive here.
It's amazing how many HAPPY gay films have been made in recent years. Thank God. When I was young there were NONE.
No kidding! It took the film industry quite a while for sure
IKR! I was so tired of all those heartbreaking dramas! 😖
@@SergeDuka and there's so many!
Do you think they had to be sadder so that the studios would make them?
@@marke7441 They had to be sadder to reflect the actual life back then. Plus, there was this whole campaign to show gays not as some demons we were believed to be but just humans who could cry and bleed. We had to turn fear and hate into compassion. And that was what eventually happened.
This is a bit overkill: Latter Days, Get Real, Broken Hearts Club, Torchsong Trilogy, Bros, GBF, The Birdcage, To Wong Foo, Beginners,
Opposite of Sex, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Object of My Affection, The Big Gay Musical, The Sum of Us, Kinky Boots, All Over the Guy, Big Eden, Trick, and Jeffrey are all feel good films that are among my favorites.
haha..... that's a good list too!!
Good list. I’ve seen 10 of those.
The Opposite of Sex was not feel good. And by the way, when did you go through my secret video collection?
It has a great ending, except for the boyfriend/baby daddy
@@lawrenceking4144
“Latter Days” is my choice amongst those films listed.
Esteros and Hawaii are both films from South America that have happy endings.. Two films from Europe, are The Man with the Answers and Tell no One. All four films I watched more than once due the ending being uplifting and positive.
Thank you for the recommendations!
There's also Plan B, made by the same director who made Hawaii. It's more lighthearted. It's awesome.
Seen all of them. My top 3:
1. Shelter
2. The Way He Looks
3. Fair Haven
i haven't seen #3 yet.... but the first two are great!!
fair haven is so freaking good, i can’t even, i cried so much
I love fair haven!
I cried several rivers during fair haven it was so good!!!
The Christmas Setup is probably the best happiest gay movie I have seen. Great ending and it just feels cute and romantic without sex drugs and cheating. Also 4th Man out is a great movie.
4th man out was so funny!
Jongens has such a special place in my heart. It is such a beautifully quiet and kind film.
Excellent choices! Handsome Devil should be added to the list as well as red, white and royal blue.
I haven't seen Red, White and Royal Blue yet but I feel like I should 😅
I completely agree.... although RWRB came out after this was put together.
I love Shelter, Beautiful Thing and God's Own Country. If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend them
Shelter is one of my absolute favorites
God's Own Country is such an incredible movie, another favorite movie of mine ,although sad but so beautifully told is " I carry you with me" if you have not seen it, I would definitely recommend it
I've never heard of it but I'm always looking for new movies to watch so thanks for the suggestion! :)
Where can it be watched?
@@harlilawson2389 I paid for both movies from You Tube
@@harlilawson2389 Tubi has it. It’s worth it.
@@MikeyCortesIt's one of the five best gay movies of all times, with deeply moving characters.
Great List! I've seen most of them already. "A Beautiful Thing", "Shelter" and "Another Country" are definitely my 3 favourites on your list!
My favorites on this list:
3º Shelter
2º The Way He Looks
1º God's Own Country
But I love two other movies from enchanting Argentine cinema that fit perfectly on this list:
- Plan B
- Hawaii
Both are from the same director Marco Berger, I highly recommend them.
HAWAII I HAVE watched Over and over Again.
I think you could watch “Contra corriente””, i think is a good one but with a sad end 😅, Marco Berger’s movies are amazing ! , i’m also waching “Mariposa”
@@user-bm1jf8yx1s yes, I remember this one, it's a beautiful movie but I cried a lot at the end, so I tend to forget movies that make me cry 😅
I just watched Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe and it was soo good! It also has a happy ending and it really made me smile all day long ❤
I agree so much with you: so many gay movies that bring just the sad and tragic part of being gay. Nothing against to let society know what so often happens to us regarding the family and society relations. But I personally, and support whoever likes more the darker side, need more good news, hope. I am a man almost 60, and it was so difficult the upbringing in a time that you feared to lose all the people you loved for being gay. No reference of stable relations, parenting (that was not even dreamed) or accepting...I am so glad to see that world is, little by little, changing. So many movies and series. I celebrate it. But there are few tragic gay movies that I watch. I can tell many of my own and don't need to be reminded...Thank you for this video!
I'm the same age and feel very much the same. I spent about thirty years dealing with so many dysfunctional people and families both personally and professionally that my patience is exhausted. I've no interest in seeing gay movies with dysfunctional characters. I've recently closed that thirty year stretch and I'm done, thank you very much. I'm only interested in gay movies with mentally healthy characters and happy endings. If I want anything else I'll go look at real life.
Next time please add Maurice ( 1987 ) and Doukyusei ( 2016 ).
pls can someone help list those movie montion here
The thing about Harry is my fave. I've watched it 6 times now and i could still watch it again.
You can add red, white and royal blue here. Its amazing
I would add Red, White and Royal Blue to this list! The whole movie just has a sweet vibe and they have a happy ending
Indeed!!! Just saw it for the first time last week and currently in the works on making a video about it ❤️
Esteros (2016) is so good & does not get enough mentions. It's Spanish language from Argentina about 2 childhood friends, Matias & Jeronimo, who were separated when Matias' dad realizes that they're becoming more than friends as they grow older. So Matias is moved to Brazil, grows up, finds a nice girl & they go back to Argentina where Matias runs into Jeronimo. It's obvious Matias was made to forget about Jeronimo in their years apart, but that's all over the second he sees him again. Their story is beautiful with a happy ending that just makes me giddy. This movie is a very close second to Shelter, for me, for feel good gay movie.
I then have 2 movies that aren't necessarily good, but they have happy endings & I love them. First, Friends and Family (2001) is very much a product of it's time, but it's a comedy about a gay couple, Stephen & Danny, who work as hitmen for the mafia struggling to keep their real jobs hidden when family drops in for a surprise visit. Everyone knows they're gay, but not that they're criminals. The stereotypes are cringe at best & truly harmful/hurtful at worst, but I just loved the relationship between Danny & Stephen so much. Second, Naked Dragon (2014) is so bad it's probably just bad, but I watched it on Amazon in 2020 when lockdown was hitting me hard & the way that the two main characters just develop such an immediate, comfortable relationship really hit me. I loved it & still love it after repeated viewings. It's about an LAPD officer who stumbles upon a murder that's linked to a serial killer case being worked by the FBI. In swoops Special Agent Robbie Taylor, who's purported to be psychic, but he just pays attention to details. The plot & crime aspects are ridiculous. I literally have a drinking game for every time a specific sidecharacter goes for or mentions coffee. The movie is bad, but the relationship has real feel good vibes & a happy ending. So I honestly overlook alot in these 2 movies versus Esteros, Shelter & others on your list where I kind of love EVERYTHING about them, but I'm putting them out there in case others might discover & love them too. I have all of these on DVD, though, & not sure if any other than Naked Dragon are available for streaming.
I have seen Esteros before and included it in one of my other videos as well. I was close to adding it but opted for the others instead. But thank you for the recommendations and for watching the video! 😊
SHELTER!!! 😍 One of my absolute favs. I also really appreciated God's Own Country, and I'm happy to see two Dutch films on the list. Have watched my fair share of these recommendations.
I'm happy you enjoyed the video ❤️
I have seen and love ALL these movies. Now I will have to go back and rewatch a few. thanks for posting this.
Thank you for stopping by! ❤️
Shelter is one of the best films on here. This is a great list ❤
So glad you included Shelter in this list ❤ it really is one of my fave gay movies and at the time there were not many uplifting ones to choose from. Such a breath of fresh air!
Agreed! ❤️
My fav would have to be "Man In The Orange Shirt". Brilliant.
Not a movie
I'm disappointed that Trick wasn't in this list.
we need so much more films like the ones you've mentioned.... I only knew a few like mambo italiano, torch song trilogy and Maurice.... and ofc the new red, white and royal blue
Sorry if it's been put out (late to the party!), but Trick is such a great film. A light-hearted romantic comedy. Sweet, funny and 2 very cute boys as the leads!
Loved, Beautiful Thing, must have saw it I don't remember how many times.
It inspired an international group of us fans to meet in Thamemead and Greenwich for many years (circa 1998-2005). I'm still friends with people from all over the World that this movie brought together. Precisely bcause it had an uplifting ending.
Excellent video, and a great list of films. I’ve seen/heard of many of these, but not all… Love to discover new Gay cinema!
A few favorites of mine to add to the list (mostly already mentioned by others):
“Trick”
“Latter Days”
“Maurice”
“Breakfast with Scott”
“Zero Patience”
“The Wedding Banquet”.
“Were the World Mine”
Thank you for the awesome list! ❤️
The central character is not gay in Billy Elliot, but l love how accepting he is of his gay friend. And that had a happy ending.
I’m really glad Fairhaven was on this list. It’s beautifully made and the acting is very touching. Great film.
Couldn't agree more! One of my favorites in this list.
I'm so glad 2 of my favorite films are on this list- The Way He Looks and Shelter. They are probably the only 2 that I'll watch again and again. The other movies... probably once and a great while.
Have a look at "Big Eden." A really lovely movie, well produced and acted, with a beautiful happy ending.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a watch :)
Big thumbs up for Big Eden. If only a town like that existed…
The fact that Boys was the first one on the list made me smile so hard. I go to that movie when I want some respite from the world and I want to remember what love is. It’s not much. But it’s my little Dutch film that I love ❤️
Thank for this list but please include Trick, The Birdcage and The Wedding Banquet by Ang Lee.
"Shelter" would be high in my list.
Torch Song Trilogy, Red, White and Royal Blue, and More Than Only are 3 favourites. Torch Song in particular is such an affirmation of healthy self-love that I often suggest watching it to gay people who feel trapped by homophobic family. More Than Only is summed up by the last words spoken by one of the characters; "My father only wanted two things. He could have had so much more."
Wow, I love that! ❤️
This will age me, “A beautiful thing” was my first film I saw that made want to move to England! I saw Shelter and I got homesick. The SoCal scenes and the beautiful relationship, and the cast are amazing. Gods Own Country, was a breath of fresh air! TY for the list, I’ll need to see the rest on the list ❤
Thank you for stopping by! Much love ❤️
Ive seen quite a few of these
Love simon, shelter, the thing about harry, the way her looks, make the yuletide gay, gods own country.
I loved all of them so glad you included them in your list ❤
Shelter is my fave. I've watched it a thousand times already!
“Were the world mine” is a coming of age type musical. “A bullied and demoralized gay student at an all-boys school uses a magical flower derived from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream' to turn many in his community gay, including a comely rugby player for himself.” It came out in 2008 and is one of the few gay movies I come back to every year.
Maurice and ladder days both have happy endings as well. Plus of course red, white and royal blue as others have said.
LOVE Maurice and Latter Days.
Thank you for this! When I "came out" in May 1968, we could not have imagined so many gay films would be produced. I have watched a few of the films you review here. My current favorite is "Red, White and Royal Blue" starring Nicholas Galitzine (absolutely adorable!) and Taylor Perez (sexy Hispanic!). RW&RB lifts up some of the challenges one must face as a gay man. The ending is sensationally affirming.
What a great list. My favorite on the list is shelter. My favorite of all gay films is Plan B. The ending is fantastic. It is great all the way through.
I haven’t seen it but I’ll take a look at it ❤️
Thanks for the recommendation! If you want an absolutely hilarious gay movie, I highly recommend the comedy: “Another gay movie”. It’s the gay version of “Another teenage movie” and it does have a very happy ending!
First of all, your voice is very soothing. great picks btw, i won't say GoC is dark, imo, rather the best transitions a gay movie can have: it's soft, wholesome, and true love that finds its way across mistakes. Haven't seen yuletide yet. 😭Love.
Thank you for the compliment! ❤️ Yuletide is really funny, it's a great watch :)
All excellent choices!! Gods own Country is truly monumental in so many ways, the acting is top notch too. Shelter is so good also, just a simple film but tells such a great story as does Fair Haven and Beautiful Thing, superb! One other film that is not widely known is "Fourth Man Out", its very fun and has a great ending.
Fourth Man Out was hilarious! I think it was the first true gay comedy I saw 😂
Shelter is my all-time feel-good movie I always fall back to. It makes me feel so warm and cuddly.
And Make The Yuletide Gay has such great characters and it's so silly, it makes me laugh the most out of those I know from this list.
Beautiful Things amazing....and a great score!
My altime favourit is "Latter Days" god i was crying so much but i love it and it also has a good Ending
thankyou so much for puting this together. yes, more romance and happy endings are needed for sure
Thank you for watching the video! :) thankfully it does seem like as time goes by, happier gay movies are being made.
Beautiful Thing, One of my all-time favorites
I will watch some of these you recommended. You got one of my top gay happy movies. Please watch Latter Days, and To Wong Foo, for more happy endings!
Red White and Royal Blue is a recent one with a happy ending.
Thank you. Watching LGBTQ+ movies nowadays always leave me heartbroken and lacking. I just can't deal with that anymore.
Great selection my friend.
Agreed! I do think the amount of sad vs happy gay movies is way too disproportionate.
My view on that if they’re going to be said at least tell trans stories more . Or at least tell set the stories in countries where being gay is illegal instead of having unrealistic high levels of homophobia in a place like the Netherlands or California
Agree. I'll thinking a lot of movies with LGBTQ subject matter are made by straight people. I subscribe to a couple of LGBTQ streaming services and most of the time come away from watching a film feeling lost and depressed.
@@jeylonblake3407 Don't let an American company do a trans movie. They will cast a woman like in American Trans. BUT ENGLAND!!! Look up the movie Different For Girls.
Great List❤ I have all of them
Maurice (1987)
Finally beautiful thing was the first gay movie I watched, so good to have positive representation, which was really rare back in the day.
Completely agree ❤️
I loved 'A Beautiful Thing' was a great film. I saw it many years ago and I loved the ending.
I only recently watched Fair Haven here of CZcams and absolutely LOVE Shelter and Beautiful Thing (which I saw at the cinema on my first date with one of my first boyfriends!) You really need to watch Breakfast With Scot [2007], Ruben's Place [2012], Like It Is [1998], The Sum Of Us [1994] and A Question Of Love [2000]. They're all great films with happy endings. Short films Chance [2015] by Jake Graf and Just Ask Him [2020] by Brian Tognotti are wonderful too.
Thank you so very much!!!!! Grateful! 💖
Loads of Gay Christmas movies have come out in the last 5 years.
yes, and some quite good ones too.
OMGs! All beautiful movies.
My favorite gay movie with a happy ending is TRICK starring Christian Campbell, JP Pitoc & Tori Spelling.
Oh, another one I remember: “The Sum of Us” with Russell Crowe. It’s from 1994, but it is really touching (and has a happy ending).
Interesting, I think this is one of the only ones I’ve never heard about until now. I’ll give it a watch, thanks 😊
Some of my favorite gay movies are Latter Days, The Falls Trilogy, Were the world mine, and if you want another unknown Christmas movie “Walk a mile in my Pradas” is another good one.
One of my favorites is "A Home at the End of the World"
Im happy we're getting Christmas movies. Christmas Setup, Happiest Season, Dashing in December, Single All The Way
The thing about Harry made me cry because it was so cute. Red White and Royal Blue is my new favorite gay movie though
Beautiful thing and shelter are my absolute favorites. The way he looks is so sweet. GOC is definitely a new favorite. I just watched Hawaii. That was a happy ending but I wanted more. I think I do is another with a happy ending.
There's another brazilian gay movie named Tatuagem, that would suit this theme!
I NEEDED THIS I JUST FINISHED WATCHING CALL ME BY YOUR NAME THAT MOVIE MESSED ME UP SOOOOO BADDDD SO THANK YOOOUUUUU😭😭
Ouch, that one has a sad ending 😢 I recommend you to see Red, White, and Royal Blue. I’m sure you’ll feel better after that
That movie is so sad 😭❤️
I am surprised that Latter Days is not part of the list.
Shelter is kinda basic but somehow i always put it in my most fav movies. story is not much different but the way it delivered ... god it was so good idk why 😂
I love shelter to be honest. I actually thought the plot was pretty unique for a gay drama, and the ending was so good too :)
@@MikeyCortes i completely agree with what you said here.... I thought the story line was unique.
North Texas Sea. I don't know of the ending of Eternal Summer is exactly happy but the movie had the best gay love scene I have ever seen. Tender. Also, Happy Together and Broken Sky. Both movies focus on a bad relationship and ends with a fresh start and new love for the respective stars.
„the least known film in this list“.. gave me a little heartattack 😅 it is my all time favorite, watched it after I did came out and while I hadn’t the response I hoped for this movie gave me so much comfort and I’m still wearing the rainbow dogtag from this film 😅😊
I would suggest that you add "Maurice" and "Red, White and Royal Blue" to this list. Both are highly regarded, as is the German-language "Freier Fall".

Nice list. I've watched the majority of them including Boys, Love Simon, Beautiful Thing, The Way He Looks, The Thing About Harry, Shelter (an all-time favorite), and God's Own Country (another fav). And I must agree they were a joy to watch.
I have Fair Haven and Make the Yuletide Gay saved in my To Be Watched list.
Never heard of Just Friends so I will be adding it.
I know this is a list of 10 movies, however, you should consider Red, White & Royal Blue, Maurice, Different For Girls, Bros, Beautiful Something, Breaking Fast, Monsoon, Boy Culture, Single All The Way, as well as The Falls Trilogy, and Latter Days, both classics.
A lesser known gay French film you should check out is Eastern Boys. If you think God's Own Country was heavy prepare yourself. If you're able to make it through to the end you'll be richly rewarded with a happy ending. LOL
I love Fair Haven so much ❤️
@@MikeyCortes I can't wait to check it out. I love that Gregory Harrison is in it. Growing up, I had a major crush on him.

I think your choices are right on! "God's Own Country" was my favorite from your list. I have seen it several times. I have a new favorite happy ending gay movie that beats all others. Have you seen, "Red, White, and Royal Blue"? It's so good and very new. Beautiful, funny, serious, steamy and very sexy. Gay romance in a way I've never seen presented on screen before. Great storyline that never stops until the end with several surprises throughout. It's on Prime Video and I encourage everyone to watch it. Hope you review it sometime.
I haven't seen Red, White, and Royal Blue yet to be honest. I have been busy with my most recent video. But I will give it a watch no doubt! Been wanting to read the book too.
Great list. I see lots of other great movies in the comments…one I recommend that I haven’t seen pointed out yet is Breaking Fast
Thanks for sharing! I will give it a watch 😊
Yes! Shelter is my absolute fave gay movie! Thanks for this list. There are a few I haven’t seen yet 🏳️🌈
A great list (several movies here I have yet to see), but as you say, I think a second and even a third will be needed. I've not seen anyone mention A Very Sordid Wedding, one of my absolute favourites. Also Red, White and Royal Blue, All of Us Strangers, Handsome Devil, Single All the Way and so many more. It used to be that a gay movie about men was always overshadowed by HIV and AIDS and the inevitable loss that accompanies them. And the bullying and marginalisation to which we were so often subjected. Mirrors of their times, of course, as the media have to be. I'm so glad things have changed so much for the better in so many parts of the world and films and TV shows can now depict happiness for LGBT+ people. I believe we are happy people. We should be seen as such😁
Indeed we are 😁 we cry from time to time but not as much as we are depicted to lol
Thanks!
I'm Dutch, how can I not know the Dutch film 'Jongens' (Boys) ! Thanks for the video, I'm going to watch that film!
A few years ago, I saw the 80's movie Parting Glances. A Happy Ending. No extra sugar.
I've never heard of it, I'll give it a watch :) thanks for your comment!
@@MikeyCortes Yeah, “Parting Glances” is excellent. A fun, quirky film from 1986, and the first starring role for the young Steve Buscemi. Definitely check it out!
Gods own country
Oh yes, “Beautiful Thing” one of my favorites ❤ I like the movie adaptation “Love, Simon” also but I felt the chemistry was off and they could have cast someone else as Simon. “The Way He Looks” is also a huge favorite of mine as well. I didn’t care for “Shelter”, but I agree it is a good positive ending movie. “Make the Yuletide Gay” is a treasure 😂 I watch it every Christmas now and I am here for the corniness and puns.
