    Thanks for the video! I've been struggling with my squat and you addressed my issues. Really like the explanation of possible mistakes and the remedy for each of them. You addressed the squat in a different way from other videos. It shows a good preparation and execution. You kept it just a bit over10 mins. I like the humour at the beginning, but was a bit long. Would love to see a video on power clean.

    5:19 - In my experience, this small change can also fix the somewhat rare, but very real problem of anterior hip flexor/groin pain that some people get. This can be caused by overextending the lumbar and tilting the pelvis forward (anterior pelvic tilt), causing a bunching up of tendons and ligaments around the femoral head, causing the femoral head to not glide smoothly within the acetabulum (which is why people who get this pain often think it's hip impingement). Tilting the pelvis back a bit (posterior pelvic tilt) and holding that position tight with tight abs throughout the whole movement can fix this. Neutral spine, NOT arched spine.
    I had terrible hip pain from squats because of this, and this small change in my setup basically fixed it. But I had to basically completely relearn the squat and rebuild.

      I think this is exactly what I am doing. I developed a dull pain in my back, especially on the left side. It is accompanied by tension in the left side of my hip, and pain in the thigh socket. I think I tend to over-extend my back when I go up in my squats. I probably started doing this as a counter to the butt wink but got myself in a bigger mess. Will try to resist over-extending my back and see if I can fix it that way. How did you relearn the movement btw?

    A useful tip from the blue book I've used over and over: visualize yourself as the bar (focus on its position completely and utterly), move it up and down in an invisible "slot" over the center of your foot, as if it were in a smith machine.

    Great stuff, mate! I think I did all of these errors, sometimes many at once :)) Unfortunately I live in Easter Europe, so hiring a SSC is out of question and I don't even have a training partner to give me instant feedback. I have to rely on the SS book, trainig videos like this, my own proprioception, my busted knee pain and occasional videos of my squats. I find setting the knees and torso angle on the upper 1/3 of the movement and pushing the knees out absolutely paramount. Actually, my crappy knee helps me keeping a good form, because if I don't, it hurts :))

    • @bbszabi

      @@cedricol Online coaching is not live coaching, I can identify 99% of the mistakes I make if I video myself. We could talk about excuses if I'd quit training or squatting, but guess what, I am training, getting better and stronger. Actually I am way stronger now, at 49yo, than I was in my 20s and 30s, when I was 'bodybuilding'.

    I'm still struggling to get to parallel in my squat. I watch myself in the mirror at home and try to force my hips down into position, I shove my knees out, I try different stance widths, I try pointing my toes out further than recommended or less than recommended, I try shoving my knees forward, I exaggerate bending over and pointing my chest down, and I've watched numerous videos on the channel. I go down as far as physically possible, even to the point of pain, and nothing I've tried so far has brought my hips to parallel. What else can I do? Also I'm located in South Korea and currently coaching myself. Help is much appreciated!

    • @drumh3ad
      @drumh3ad Před 3 lety +1

      Yes. My belt digs into my ribs and if I move it lower, it digs into my hips. This often results in quite significant bruising. I have a 10mm thick 4 inch belt and I think it is too wide for most normal sized humans. I'm 5'11, 230lbs. A 3 inch belt would be perfect, but I'm reluctant to spend the coin because my 4-incher has done the job well enough for 3 years.

      This sounds crazy, but go to your kitchen in your socks(assuming you have a slick floor in the kitchen), grab the kitchen counter for balance, and squat down as low as you can go with your weight on your heels. Keep as much weight off of your feet as you can until you get down low. Your feet should slide themselves to the position your hips need and your toes should turn out to where they need to be to hit depth without pain. This is your squat position. This changed my entire squat game immediately. Seriously, try it out. If you can squat down while balancing yourself without impingement, you can do it with a bar on your back. I 100% used to just try to squat with my toes forward and legs shoulder width and I had the same problem every single session and could never get below parallel. Now I squat toes out with feet wider than shoulder width and I can get ass to grass with zero pain. Every body is different, and there's no magic stance that works the same for everyone. Also, squat shoes made a HUGE difference.

Using a clip where a serviceman is shot in action is extremely inappropriate. I'd venture to say that AF never served a day in his sorry ass life for his country. You owe all vets who have served in combat a huge apology. I, for one will no longer view or subscribe to ss.
