Created in 2017, this video found its roots in the video production "RED" by Liz Triangle as part of the work-in-progress compilation work of four episodes "萃華香仙 (Suikakasen)". *As such, one part of rough sketches was included.
This is the storytelling version of the Touhou Arrange PV "インモータルフィロソフィー (Immortal Philosophy)".
The original manga "東方茨歌仙 (Touhou Ibarakasen)" has just now become incredibly interesting!

[TRANSLATOR'S NOTES]
Please let me explain a few things about the translation for hopefully better understanding (ATTENTION - wall of text ahead):
（これから英訳について色々説明しようと思います。全部英語なんですが、よろしくお願いします。そして、頑張って欲しいですよ！w）
● The title 萃華香仙 (Suikakasen) is not simply Suika's and Kasen's name slapped together. First comes SUI from Suika, then KA from Kasen, then KA from Suika and then finally SEN from Kasen. So, it's actually shuffled together, which makes it so much better! (If you're interested in the meaning: 萃 gathering - 華 flower - 香 fragrance - 仙 hermit/wizard... imagine two Oni having a quarrel... the world might end, but besides that... funny, how that actually happens in this episode...)
● "Hey, there is an i missing in "will" on the very first screen 0:01, dipsh*t." - I know. That was intentional, which is indicated by the "[sic]" right after. For those unfamiliar with scientific literature: the Latin "[sic]" basically means "as is" and is used by nowadays' scholars to signify that a quote is spelled as is - usually when the original quote is using some obsolete spelling or contains intentional misspelling or even actual misspelling. In this case, the original creator of the video in fact forgot one letter in the respective sentence, typing ござます instead of ございます where amusingly enough, the missing letter is an い which we commonly transcribe as "i"... so I thought, why not remove the i from "will" to stay faithful to the original material. Hey, art ain't a walk in the park, y'know!
● You may wonder why I sneakily refrained from translating 仙人 (sen'nin) with "hermit" 7:35 7:48 8:07. The reason is pretty simple: so the original meaning is not lost in translation. In Western languages "hermit" is simply a hermit. However, the term 仙人 (sen'nin) specifically refers to a "Taoist wizard". You might have noticed that if you have read 東方茨歌仙 (Touhou Ibarakasen) with Kasen's rather questionable allegiance to Taoism despite being a 仙人 (sen'nin)...
Look, Buddhists monks can be hermits, too, but they won't be 仙人 (sen'nin) unless they convert to Taoism and practice whatever is needed to become one - like Shoutoku Taishi... oh wait...
Why did I change it now, although I didn't mind in the previous episode? Well, that's because this time the term 仙人 (sen'nin) is actually directly tied to Taoism, see below when I talk about 天道 (tendou) (before it was just longevity and you kinda accepted it without asking).
● 5:46 Why in the world would you actually label a fake exactly as such?? lol
● 神便鬼毒酒 (jinben kidokushu) 5:54 is the name of the sake Minamoto no Raikou was given by the gods to make Shuten Douji drink in order to defeat him, which actually happens in the original story of Shuten Douji! Your FGO senses might be tingling. No, no, don't look up FGO lore now, goddammit, please check out the original story (cf. video description)!
● The phrase おつかれ (otsukare) 10:12 is commonly used in the context of (having done) hard work. You say it to colleagues (NOT higher-ups or teachers - a common mistake even Japanese might make by accident), usually people with whom you have "worked" on the same thing in some shape or form such as a project, your actual job or a lesson in school - but also in a much broader sense such as a gaming session, a livestream or a call... or you say it to your oni colleague who just had a small banter with a fellow oni whilst utterly destroying the scenery all around - you know, the usual stuff. It kind of creates a feeling of "being on the same level", which is why you don't say it to people "above you" - you can however say it to people "below you".
The phrase itself is derived from the verb 疲れる (tsukareru) which means "to tire, to get tired/worn out", which explains Yuugi's wording of her following sentence about how a stubborn brat is tiring 10:16.
● Yoshika uses some quite old Japanese phrases and pronouns that pop up now and then, which is why I decided to consistently translate her dialogue with some archaic English now and then (to the best of my knowledge, that is). I know, I forgot it once at 15:36 because at that time I was kind of being distracted by all the water that would come out of my eyes... so please forgive me...
In general, I tried my best to represent special speech patterns as far as possible whenever applicable (in this episode and the previous one).
● The verses Yoshika and Kasen recite/sing 15:54 are (as already suggested in episode 2) actual poems written by 都良香 (Miyako no Yoshika) the real Japanese poet and scholar our Yoshika is based on (albeit with different Kanji in the name). I gave my best to translate them somehow, but in the end nothing replaces reading the actual original poems. Go ahead and look'em up!
Kasen actually knows those poems in the original story (manga) and seems to enjoy them, which made dedicated readers go wild when Seiga and Kasen actually met... but I don't want to spoil too much here...
But yeah, as you can tell, this is pretty much the inspiration for this entire video or animated manga series. Sometimes, even just a little spark can be turned into a gorgeous firework... and this is really Touhou Project in a nutshell ♡
● The 12 nidanas (十二因縁 juuniin'nen) 16:14 are, in short, the 12 phases leading to suffering... in BUDDHISM. The term 三千世界 (sanzensekai) from the preceding line which I lovingly translated as "the whole cosmos" 16:09 is actually also a Buddhist term as it literally means "3000 worlds" which in actuality refers to the 1000 times 1000 times 1000 (i.e. 1 billion and not 3000) worlds the light and teachings of the Buddha can reach - in other words, the entire f*cking universe. Interestingly the 3 in those "3000 worlds" is likely a reference to the 南無三宝 (namusanbou), the three treasures of Buddhism... you know... "namusan"... the phrase Byakuren is often associated with.
● We're not done with religion yet. Kasen mentions the 天道 (tendou), which I translated as "the Way of Heaven" 7:48. However, if you actually look it up in your dictionary it will most likely tell you something about the Deva Realm or the Divine Realm or something like that. That is because in BUDDHISM 天道 (tendou) in fact refers to the Deva Realm, one of the 6 realms or paths (六道 'rokudou' or 'rikudou') Buddhists believe in. The Deva Realm is, as the name implies, where the Deva (commonly translated with "god") live. HOWEVER, since as you know we are talking about the Sen'nin and hence Taoism, it actually refers to the Way of Heaven Taoists aspire to follow. In short, it's the path to Immortality which in Chinese terms is pretty much divine - hence the name.
Buddhism? Taoism? Confused yet? Haha, welcome to my world!
Btw, your Naruto senses might have started tingling when I was talking about the 6 realms/paths. Please stand by.
● 仙術 (senjutsu) 17:59 - IS THAT A NARUTO REFERENCE??? I'm sorry, but no - rather the other way around. While Taoism was pretty much kept out of Naruto, the 仙術 (senjutsu) there does bear some resemblance to the 仙術 (senjutsu) we're talking about here. To keep it simple, we are in fact simply talking about the art of the 仙人 (sen'nin) - in other words, their practices and wizardry or magic. It literally works the same way the relationship between 忍者 (ninja) and 忍術 (ninjutsu) does. Exciting, ain'it?
● From the previous episode: for those unfamiliar with the Japanese term "itadakimasu": in essence, it is used to commonly describe a situation where the speaker receives something positive from someone else. It is in most cases intranslatable since that kind of concept simply does not exist in the same way in English or Western European languages to begin with. To keep it short, it's to say "I receive" in a polite manner and it belongs to the so called humble language in Japanese. To top it off, "itadakimasu" itself is the polite form. Anyhow, as for the very specific case of saying it before you eat, it works similarly to "bon appétit", just the other way around. You basically say it as an expression of gratitude for the food (and the life that has been sacrificed for it). You also say it when you're all by yourself and nobody is technically listening, that is, apart from yourself... and the food... yeah, the oh so dead food...
● In case you haven't noticed yet, the videos contain some scenes directly from the official Touhou Manga 東方茨歌仙 (Touhou Ibarakasen) (such as Komachi and Kasen meeting 20:19 or Seiga and Kasen meeting (at the end of episode 3) or they are direct references to the same (such as the Manzairaku dance Yoshika performs in one of the credit scenes 19:25). If you're unfamiliar with them, please feel free to get and read the manga. Also, the historical source material as mentioned in the video description is worth checking out as well, should you have gotten interested in that. Please enjoy!

Without exaggeration, I fell in love with Yoshika and Kasen devotedly once this story touched my heart…
I'd learned some ancient Chinese literature before, so I even wrote a 賦(a kind of article with rhymes) for it. I also began to read the collection of Miyako no Yoshika(都良香), then got interested in Japanese literature and aimed to learn Japanese!
So much did it bring to me that I'm sincerely grateful to the producers!

@@user-cl8hk1uv3c 我是大陸人啦，對古典文學有些興趣。現在是高中生，換句話說寫這個時還是國中生，所以很多人覺得不可思議。原來在bilibili刊東西，但是因為敏感發言被規制了（為罷工工人說了些話），現在在考慮要不要找朋友代投。
經常寫律詩，這裡列一首：

三話ラストはどうかとも思ったけども
元ネタの「聊斎志異」の現代語訳を買って「青娥」を読んでしまった。
まず、これをキャラにして更に物語を展開しようという発想がすごい。
東方原作も二次創作もよくできてるもんだ。
うぅ....3だけでもすごい泣いたのに....最後はもう涙腺崩壊以上だよぉぉお！！あと最後のお母さんとの約束の秘密でもすごい泣いた....
