Paolo Maldini, the man who made kids dream of becoming defenders

Us that were able to watch those teams and even before totally understand why. He exuded so much class on that field!!
Seeing arguably the greatest premier league footballer of all time fanboying over Maldini just tells you how great he was

He was star struck by R9 as well. As someone who grew up in the nineties Maldini and Ronaldo and Zidane are the legends of legends.
Maldini is so handsome as well.
The respect they showed Maldini is why this show is miles above others. These aren’t just pundits, or retired players they are FANS of the game and show it. I loved this.
This was the best football show I’ve seen in long time! Perfect team of four. Funny, informative, competent. I am not subscribed to whatever platform allows to see their show live, but I always watched it on CZcams when uploaded
Right?? Jamie's joy on his face because he realised Maldini knows them shows how humbled they were and the respect they have for him. So genuine I love it❤
I AGREE MAN👏👏👏👏
The fact Henry was smiling, polite, and simply star struck speaks volumes.
Not just anyone.
It's Maldini.
He looks good
Great human

When a world class player like Henry can admit he was scared of Maldini, yet still remain humble and star struck that says all you need to know

The way Thierry said "He said he loves us" sounded like a groupie 😂😂

Just look at their face. After Maldini said that, they had a face of kids opening their christmas presents. Even the usually bitter Carra.

@Roxxx ut's not the CL trophies. Sergio Ramos has won 4 and a world cup and two euros too. But has definitely not as much class as Paolo Maldini !
You need only to give quick glance on their red cards ! Maldini : just 3 in his entire career, as a defender !
Who ever hate Paulo is not a fan of football
What's funny is that he's not liked by some old milan ultras because he's always been against those neanderthals.

We lost to Marseille, Ajax and Liverpool. We deserved to win the 3 matches.
@@KingMaldini03I think the one against Marseille was a massive missed opportunity in 1993 as was the final in 2005. Milan blew it big time in the early 2000’s because they won the Champions League in 2003 blew a 3-0 lead in the semi-finals in 2004 & than lost the final in 2005. It’s interesting why Milan blew significant leads in that period when their defence was the best on the planet.
@@NoName-jq7tjquarterfinals in 2004*. I agree, we had such a marvellous team
@@federicopaolo9388 Yes but the defence is possibly paradoxically or the psychology of the team is interesting. Nesta, Maladini, Costacurta & Cafu & others blew massive goal advantages in the early 2000’s. Milan should have won 3 Champions League in a row. This is something doesn’t get mentioned. For me the peak of Milan was the 1993/94 side. It had the nucleus of the Saachi team completely evolved by Capello into a menacing machine.
@@KingMaldini03 It's crazy how close Maldini was to winning all 8 UCL titles. He barely lost all of those three matches by either 1-0 or by penalties in Liverpool's case.
As a LFC fan, Milan were terrifying, kids today won't understand that Kaka, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Schevchenko, Cafu, Crespo etc were scary, but Maldini was a monster. Imho, the best defender that has ever played the game.

One of the rare 'knocks' against Maldini were his relatively lower statistics when it came to tackles, and a wily Italian journalist tried cornering him once by suddenly quoting his tackling stats during the interview and then asking why they were so poor. Maldini, without skipping a beat, replied: "If I have to make a tackle, then I have already failed". That just about floored the journalist, and the segment on Italian TV became famous. In fact, before 'going viral' was a thing, before the internet, the quote actually became world famous.
It goes to show you that Maldini just saw the game very differently than how other defenders and pundits saw it at the time. While they were more concerned with tackling, he was focused on positioning so that he didn't have to make one at all. The quote also shows his situational awareness about what the interviewer was trying, and his sharpness of mind to give him a response that while true, turned the tables and made the journalist lose his composure.
While his dad played for AC Milan for 12 years and won the Champions League both as a player and as a coach with Milan, Maldini was in 8 Champions League finals and spent 24 years playing for the Rossoneri!
Maldini’s dad never won the Champions League as a coach. He was European champion coaching Italian Under 21 Team three times
Maldini and Baresi are probably my two favourite defenders of all time. There are two statistics in football history that will always be mindblowing to me. Messi's 92 goals in one calender year and the fact that Baresi and Maldini played 196 games together as a central defense pair (Maldini played most of his games in his career at left back, which aren't counted in this stat) for AC Milan and in those games only conceded 23 goals.
I think Maldini is the GOAT of defenders, but the stats above is misleading. They actually played 297 games and conceded 221 goals. 23 goals was probably the average goals conceded per season they were together - which is still very impressive.
@@anashamidithe stats is actually true. They only played 196 games together as the starting centre backs (Costacurta was the starter alongside baresi, Maldini was a left back) and in those 196 games they only got scored on 23 times. As crazy as it sounds this stats real.

Its passed down generations after generation's of fathers and grandfathers. Your community, your city, your people, your club. Then you have people who support clubs from thousands of miles away, what sort of connection can they have to that club? None.
@@qzit most teams have players from abroad, so we can support players from our countries
@@qzit so people from Asia shouldn't support any clubs in Europe? These footballers are gonna earn way less if everyone can only support their local clubs and most footballers are gonna lose motivation... Think before you speak
maldini is not a plyaer.. he is ICON of game
Total royalty, probably the greatest defender ever. Class
The best central defender in football history is either Paolo Maldini or Franz Beckenbauer. Both are elegant yet strong.
@S R Beckenbauer bit before my time, football was shit back then though, england won the world cup. I'd take Maldini over Franz
@@lionelmassey5365 Well, football was not that advanced at his time, but he led his team to win the World Cup, beating the favourites "the Clockwork Orange" Netherlands (featuring Johan Cruyff, Ruud Krol, et al). That Netherlands team were one of the best teams in football history.
Whichever player you choose, I won't mind. They offer similar level of quality, I think.
@S R Germany have always been pretty well rounded. Reckon ive seen a better Netherlands team in my life though. Born 87
@@sr3821 This is being ignorant. Maldini played mostly as LB in AC Milan. The best central defender in AC Milan was Baresi.
