- After taking out my sleeping platform and adding a Gunner Kenner, I had to completely rework my 4Runner setup for full-time travel. I eventually decided to keep things simple and see how the next couple months play out in the 4Runner.

I'm a van lifer from upstate NY, now in Arizona with my dog blue! And it's funny you mention water. Because when I started out it was 10 gallons. Then went to 12, then 15, and now 20! 😆
But understand, right now I .in the desert 🏜️!
I have plenty of room to stock up more than I need for emergencies. Like, water, propane, butane, etc....Safe travels!👍🚙
I think you’re experiencing what most of us experience - trial and error. What sounds good doesn’t always equate to functionality, and that part of the fun. Trying different things and finding what works for you. Really enjoy your videos.
Other uses for a Jackery 1000 are an electric, heating pad or blanket, and a small induction hotplate.

Thanks for sharing your new setup. I love the idea of having more headroom. I'm sure it's a game-changer for you and Zora. Not sure if you're up to adding Overlanding ideas, but a roof rack with a few storage boxes will declutter the interior, giving you more space. Roam, and Wolf pack brands are fantastic. Moki's side doorstep is a must for this type of setup. The best part, you can transfer everything over to your new truck when the time comes.

What a mess? :) your setup rightnow seems to be perfect in city living. For back country living, the 4runner is good since its capable and reliable. Removing the passenger seat will give you more space. There are storage options to the 4runner ceiling.

Rooftop storage kills MPG like nothing else. Can't wait to see what's next. I went the opp way. From large RV to Astro van to Xterra SUV. Taking the passanger seat and having bed platform there was the key. Huge storage under the bed and entire trunk free for stuff
I definitely think taking the seat out would make it doable in the 4Runner!
Just helped a lost dog found on the highway find his home. Leashes are good because of deer scents. Love minimalism.

You have a neat setup. Given your desired close proximity to town/gym/library, you can easily get away with it. Longer and more frequent off grid camping trips would likely change your design.

It all depends on your needs and design criteria. Sharing the space with a medium sized dog has its own challenges. Glad it’s working out for you.

Exactly. Every time I cut items from the setup, I’m surprised by how little I miss them. You just find new ways of doing things.
@@NoPerfectPlan my rig is luxury by comparison. An old Chevy van. But I share that square footage with a Beagle, a Boerboel, a Dutch Shepherd and a lab/acd.

I spent last summer truck camping in Montana while working seasonally. Did the same thing and took out my big water containers for the same reason. Because I was at the gym every day and at work there was no need for it. It’s crazy how we greatly over pack only to start wishing we’d not brought so much stuff! 😂
Okay, I changed my previous suggestion that I gave on another video about a plaform under her kennel. Until you get a new rig, you should build a simple skinny yet short bed platform that the edges lift to get to your stuff that is stored under. This leaves space for her kennel, provides hidden storage, gives you a sleep space, and still gives you the head room in the area you were sitting so you can change, cook, and work with ease. You could even have the front side of the bed platform fold back if you wanted more space in the day although if its low enough you wouldnt need that. It wouldn't take much space. Just save you from constantly moving everything at bedtime. Ps I love designing, so my apologies if my suggestion over steps.

No fridge in my unit, not needed with the temps up here. I also have a cold & a shedding dog!
The 1 difference is my unit is a suv. Takes work & time to minimize your space for comfort but functionality.

I like your old kitchen set up.
Buy a deck for your food storage your clothing pots and pans etc. it comes with two drawers that way on top of your deck it fits perfectly inside your trunk and on top of that you can actually put your bed or mattress to sleep on and leave plenty of room fFYI
I vote for a truck, but I’m partial to trucks. Though, if you are looking for a rig with direct access to the driver seat cab, that won’t work. Minivans fascinate me if you get the ones with the seats that fold completely into the floor. Looking forward to seeing your options!
I’m a truck girl myself, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up that direction.

Take care of the cold. I understand that changing your rig is an on going process. It is like the first time I moved out when I was 18, then first house etc. Over the years there were plenty of adjustments. Your next rig will be a lot of research, and not something you will do on the spur of the moment. Be safe

Lol my passenger seat is replaced with my boy's kennel. He loves having eyes on me throughout our drives. No regrets as it gives him the entire back to play in as needed. Idk if that will stay once we get a gunner though.
Hi! So I have an suv build, but it’s a QX56 so a full size an I still have space issues. I do say the the rooftop cargo is key. I use a Plano 53 inch rifle case for my recovery gear and and fluids like wd40, brake cleaner, etc. but I’m a bit of a prepped so I have way too many things I’ll problem never need. Anyway I’m enjoying the evolution of your build based off your experiences traveling. If I traveled more in my rig I’d probably have a better system worked out,but for now it’s a work in progress.

Nice video, sorry to here that you are getting rid of your 4Runner. I don't do long term camping in my 4Runner but I do agree with you on limited space. I never considered a deck system only because I like to be able to sit up in the back and I am pretty much a minimalist. If I was younger and did do long term camping / road trips I wouldn't hesitate to get some sort of full size van.......... have fun !

If you still want 4wd but want a lot more room I would say a suburban.
The best passenger sized vehicle is of course going to be a full-size van though.

Wow that's a good setup have you ever thought of getting a van ? are a bigger car? are maybe putting some more storage on top of your vehicle Zora is so adorable I'm so enjoying your videos but I couldn't imagine having our 80 pound Belgian Malinois who just turned 1 in such a small space he likes to run and play so much how do you get enuff exercise for her cuz Belgian are high energy dogs ours is a sweetheart but he is a full time job lol we love him 🤗anyway wishing you and Zora safe travels and again thank you for all your videos 🙏

You definitely need to upgrade your 4runner to a sprinter or maybe a Ford transit or something along those classes. It's inevitable. You're suffocating in there. You can get a great value for your Toyota as a trade it.
Any reason you dont get a van? Then you can live without having to pack and unpack. You both can have space? Just a thought! I would! Love your content

She surprisingly hasn’t shed much for 1.5 months. She goes through spurts where she sheds a bunch versus the normal amount. 😅

How did Zora do transitioning from being lose in the 4runner to being in the crate while you drive? I totally agree with you on the safety side of the crate.
I introduced her to the crate for about a month in the house before ever putting her in it in the car. She honestly didn’t have any issues with it. She always sleeps in the car, so I don’t think she cares where that happens as long as she gets to lay down 😅
The 60lb sand bag is a complete waste of space, that’s where your fridge should’ve been. Sounds like you already have plans for rooftop storage as that would make a good “garage” for the hobby gear you left behind.
I am a big fan and fellow T4R owner here looking at building it out for car camping soon. My big question is how do you manage condensation?

2 things , first get a air tag collar for zorra , this way if by some chance she is off leash and sees a squirrel and runs off you can track her with your phone and get her back .. second why do you need a create ? She is living in a create , get her a car harness leash that connects to the seat belt . And she will be perfectly safe in accident in car harness.. do you think that creat isnt gonna fly around in an accident ? I train dogs and can tell ya she is safer from injury in a car harness than in a create .. safer for you both.. never mind all the space you will have without a create .. keeping that breed of dog on a kennel all day is not good ,it will cause her to be depressed .. not fair to her .. as a retired police K-9 handler i can tell ya you will never see a k-9 in a create in a car.. and there are many reasons for that ..

You said something was at home. So you're not full-time anymore? Is that why you're stuff is gone? You're only doing weekends trips? Which would explain 8 days in a month. Even if you're part-time, you didn't show anywhere to sleep inside the vehicle. Where are you sleeping? In a tent or something?
Nahh - I was at a home for the holidays. I’m back in the car full-time now that I’m done visiting everybody.
