- The Australian War Memorial remembers Australians who died in wars and conflicts from the Sudanese Campaign to the modern day. Within the memorial is a large and well displayed museum showing the history of the Australian army, navy and air force though the First and Second World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and more.

Great Museum! Very good Video! Thank you very much!
Thank you, yes it's an amazing museum. It was even better than I'd hoped.
That's a great looking museum. I hope you had a good trip
Thanks mate. That was certainly the highlight of the trip!
George Cross awarded For Valor - same prestige as the Victoria Cross but not in a war zone. Rarer than the VC. Very few originals not held by the museum.
As you said, some exhibits were removed for the construction. The Lancaster bomber 'G for George', Japanese midget sub and a short film by Peter Jackson on planes in the First World War. While Mephisto was on loan to the memorial for a period, I believe it's back in Queensland. The construction area when you were going down stairs was where the pre WW1 exhibit was if I remember correctly. I hope you were able to do a free guided tour off camera, the insight they provide is amazing.
Thanks for that extra information Greg!
Australian WW1 official war historian, C E W Bean, packed up and sent many many crates of original artefacts back with a view to creating a museum. Every conflict since has seen the same process.
Thanks for that extra peice of information, much appreciated.
