its all fun and games until penn starts to rap through the poem
Love the detail that after Teller turns off the spikes he rolls the mat back on and throws that hook into trash can.
The amount of rehearsals that these two have done, must be staggering.
Not really. It’s actually really easy to get out of a straight jacket. Teller could get out in 15 seconds. He milks it for a while and then when he really goes for it Penn speeds up his reading and synchs with the finish. It’s Still way more entertaining than hearing Rick Lax read this poem.
@@jetnut89 I'm sure. But that is not immediate. I don't mean for this one act. I meant in general.
@@mathewhaight honestly, even then you cant always be ready. Penn had a trick he rehearsed countless times and only ever got it once when the cameras were rolling. Practice is indeed important, but that suspense also adds the extra push

You mean it must be PENNful and if Brenda thinks otherwise you can TELLER to watch these videos. Hah....hah no? Ok I'll show myself out
I only just noticed that Teller was not in fact in danger.. the moment Penn stands up Teller is still holding onto the handles. If it was a real pulley he would have fallen in that split-second and he didn't. Which makes perfect sense, these guys make a big deal out of having perceived danger but not real danger in their act.
Yeah, they always have safety stuff ready, since they don't do dangerous stuff. If you look close you can see when Penn stands up he kicks the rope. This is probably tied to something holding Teller up in the event that an accident happens and the chair moves or Penn readjusts or some unforeseen accident.
There was not tension on the rope in the beginning but still impressive on tellers part
Indeed, Penn points this out in another bit they do ... check out their nail gun trick
The spikes are probably made of a very bendy rubber as well. Something that wouldn't cause any harm if he were to fall.
Not quite. Pulleys have angular momentum that needs to be sped up before you fall uninhibited, and further, that pulley is multiplied many times so the weight of even just the rope and the chair is enough to inhibit the fall. Further the length of line needed for Teller to fall has all been bunched up in that knot. In a disaster, the chair would fly up to the top, and teller would've only dropped a small amount. And as mentioned, probably gimmicked nails.
If he starts speeding up it’s to make sure no one knows when he is going to end, that way he can wait a bit or finish sooner to make it perfectly synchronised. That’s what I think at least

Everybody gangsta until Penn goes into an Eminem verse
I never noticed how great the SNL Jazz/Theme music is (at the end of the video) until now. It's really complex and rich. So much going on at once.
I love Teller, he's like Charlie Chaplin and Tommy Titch in one...
Also I wish Penn and Stephen Fry would have done something together as jovial genius giants
Beux J Teller's a half-pint Harry Houdini!
Good call about Mr. Penn and Mr. Fry. They'd surely complement each other wonderfully on stage.

“Get your kicks above the waistline, sunshine.”
So Teller does all the work? 😂😂😂
These two are amazing, pure entertainment! 👏👏👏👏
Teller always does all the work, lol
When Teller gives a nod to the audience member I think that was meant for Teller to say: Okay, let's continue.
He mouths "Thank You"
holy shit, the amount of practice for this
I've seen several versions of their Casey at the bat performance, but this has to be the best. It's too bad Teller no longer doors some of these extreme physically demanding upside down performances. I hope they will license this to a deserving up and coming team because this is one of the best.
I mean, the man is 72, but yes that would be cool to see their magic continue on in live performance.
I prefer the time they did this trick on KCET
"HERE...at Comedy Central."
Suddenly, I’m 6 again
damn that kick sells the illusion at the end. if teller let go a fraction sooner i would have missed it.
They have what Copperfield doesn't - showmanship
That Murray Head joke at the beginning was awesome
love them both
So much Doug henning shade. I’m 20 so it all went over my head till this year 😂
They did this same trick in their first TV appearance in 1985 :)
these guys invented something new. best ever.
Are they hosting the show soon cause these are popping up on my feed randomly lol
He could be holding any book
That was pretty intense...
@steven Best that was lame
@steven Best that was good don't listen to Troglodyte
@Ste_ Best That was lame, don't listen to Siddthe mann.
Did this just get unblocked in the US? I feel like it wasn't here before.
It's all fun and games until Penn starts singing like he's apart of Suicidal Tendencies
Young Penn certainly sounds different.
gem
dude look at teller's face he looks like all his blood gonna slowly coming at his head
Thats what happens when you hang upside down.
They did a performance on SNL once where they were upside down for like 10 mins or sumn, they’re used to it
cool
Whoa! I am blown away...by Penn's voice before it was completely destroyed!
I feel bad for teller
Why
Good thing Teller never got the point.
King Dragon sends his regards
Who was that host?
Is that real laughter?
🤦🏻♂️
I have heard Penn told that story a thousand time but still haven't understood or remembered a thing
Always hated magic, but always loved penn and teller.
Always hated magic? Why? How?
The colour of pens face does not look healthy!
I have to say.... the poem wasn't that great.
meh
Say what you will about them, but there was nothing magical about that hair. Ugh!
WHAT IS THAT HAIR?
Jesus the audio is so terrible. It's hard to enjoy this with a mosquito buzzing in my ear
That was fun but as a trick it kinda sucked ass
It's literally the most famous performance of their most famous trick by the most famous magician duo in the history of the entire world and you're just a dumb mark on CZcams who thinks is sucks ass. Maybe you're wrong.
@@FHRiley-yk9by it was a good performance don’t get me wrong but it’s literally just a dude getting out of a straight jacket in a scripted amount of time so as a trick it’s not very impressive so lame trick if you think this is a cool trick ur probably like 11 years old so I wouldn’t blame you
