    My husband removes the paper when I paper piece. That way he feels that he helped make the quilt. 😉

    What a Superb way to increase quilting muscle memory without wasting fabric, thread, or time. How appealing that a “practice” session culminates in a lovely useable item. Thank you, Laura! 👏🥰

    What a great idea for small projects and learning how to quilt. I can only imagine how time consuming it would be for a bigger project having to tear away that paper. Thank you!

    So basically these are pantographs for a DSM. There is no way I am picking out the papers that for some reason always get caught in the stitches. But for those who don't mind I think it is great. I'd seen them on Urban Elementz but never saw them in action so thank you Laura.

    Yes, a good idea for small projects like place mats. And if I ever purchased a Bernina machine with a stitch regulator, I might try this. My biggest pet peeve about free motion quilting is stitch length inconsistency. I notice the company that produces these also sells embroidery machine formats, so thanks for that link. I've been looking for good, single run, continuous designs.

    I think it would an unbeatable product if the paper was a 'wash-away' paper instead of tearing all those little pieces off....especially if you use one as an allover pattern on a quilt.

  • @tigerlilly393

    I think I would rather stick to my stencils and quilt pounce. Much quicker and less mess to clean up with all those tiny torn paper bits. Plus not so time consuming as to tear off all that paper and the tiny bits of paper that gets left behind. Plus less paper saves more trees 😊

    If you received these for free to review on your channel, you are required to disclose such. All sponsored content, items received, affiliate links & the like must be disclosed, both in the video and written in the description box.
    While I’m glad to see my favorite content creators get recognized, I feel some channels have switched to mostly sponsored videos.
    I have followed you for almost 4yrs, since you began. I have loved your tutorials and tips. Everything from repurposing ties & shirts into quilts, to how to sew quilts from blocks to binding. From how to clean your scissors w oil, to using a salad spinner to prewash precuts.
    But over the past year or more I’ve noticed you’ve switched to mostly videos discussing products. I understand maybe one featured product a month or so (with the required disclosures), but please don’t lose sight of why you have such a great following. You are a gifted teacher. Thank you. 💚

      Thank you very much for following me and taking the time to watch. I do try to cover projects and products, tips, free patterns, and fun stuff. I try to keep Tuesday to a shorter video and the Thursday is a longer video. I do love notions and like to be able to share how they are used and the different ways that I have found to use them. Out of respect I always ask the companies first before I do a video and sometimes they will send me samples to try out. I will only do a video if I like the product and if it would be of interest and help the viewers. I am glad you have brought this up as it is good to know that you enjoy more projects than products
      Thank you again for taking the time to comment and thank you for the wonderful compliment.:) yours truly Laura

    NO NO NO! This would be terrible. 1. Cost, totally not cost effective 2. Time to glue and cut and draw on paper 3. Pulling the paper off of all of that would be a NIGHTMARE! No Thank you.

    • @kcquilting2006

      Actually, it’s much easier to tear away the paper than you may think. Plus, for people who want to try FMQ but are afraid to, this is the perfect baby step to take! It gives you the hang of the idea and how it goes.
      When I first started, I used Golden Threads paper to trace out designs similar to this idea and quilt my borders and blocks, etc. It really gave me the confidence to move forward and today I’m a pretty good FMQ if I do say do myself.

    • @paradisoperduto4900
      @paradisoperduto4900 Před 5 lety +3

      The problem is not how easy it is to tear away... that is always easy. The problem is putting it together on a big quilt, matching all the pieces... plus the cost of it

    • @susieodell2637
      @susieodell2637 Před 5 lety +1

      Livinnpjs I thought the same thing. I was looking at one that was almost $2/sheet. Some are more. For a queen quilt, it’s just not affordable. I liked the idea, though, and might try it on my own for cheaper. I don’t use the pounce, I never figured it out, so this might be faster than a washout pen.

    • @petersiliekrause2203
      @petersiliekrause2203 Před 5 lety +1

      I disagree. I‘m just about to make my first handbag. I purchased some pretty expensive fabric, and the outside of the bag needs to be quilted. I‘m an absolute FMQ beginner. The curves I try to quilt do get ugly pointy edges, because I haven’t the hang of it yet, then I’m getting nervous about where to head next, and oops, another of these hooks where a curved line should have been.
      Instead of wasting yards and yards of fabric to practice my quilting on, instead of ruining that nice fabric I bought to make the handbag out of, the „waste“ of some sheets of paper seems the more tolerable waste to me.
      I‘m sure this wasn’t designed to be used throughout your entire quilting career, and depending on the size of the quilt, it might be even less expensive to send it to a longarmer, than having to purchase and add a bazillion of these pattern sheets. But it seems a pretty good idea to me for smaller up to medium sized projects.
      I haven’t looked up the shipping costs to Europe yet, but many times the shipping costs are ten times the price of the item. So this has inspired me to try to copy my intended quilting pattern to the paper you buy to use in the oven (we call it baking paper, I don’t know if this is the correct term...) It’s semi transparent, so printing out a sheet with the pattern and copying it to the baking paper with a permanent marker shouldn’t be a great deal.
      Thanks Laura, for the inspiration ❤️

    Hello thank for all your video's I love all of then. I tried this. the tear away paper is more than time it is horrible. the paper is not good for your washer. unless it dissolve, you have to pick it out. even if you use a long stitch. the larger the project the bigger the problem

    • @motherhenn8850
      @motherhenn8850 Před 5 lety +8

      Perhaps shorter stitches would perforated the paper and make it easier to tear.

    • @kcquilting2006
      @kcquilting2006 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, stitch a bit shorter and don’t cut corners by thinking you can just throw the quilt in the washing machine to get the little bits of paper out. You really need to get them out BEFORE washing it 😉 I use my bent tweezers to gently rub them out but the stiletto tool she has with the rubber tip works just as well!

    • @SewVeryEasy
      @SewVeryEasy  Před 5 lety

      You defiantly need to remove most of the paper before washing. Only the little flakes should be left on the quilt before washing.

I had looked a that in the Spotlight here and wondered about it but never bought it. You've confirmed for me that it's not for me. The only question I wondered was......do you think you could throw this in the wash and have the paper come off that way?? Hmmmm actually, I think i'm answering that as I write. What about the binding. You'de have to bind it first...etc.. Oh my goodness. I think this is just way to much hassle, too much mess and bother for me. I'd rather do anything but lol

    Laura, why do you drop the feed dogs when you uses this amazing paper? I am new to quilting and I see some tutorials where
    they stitch in the ditch or do a simple pattern with placing masking tape as a spacer but I don’t remember they dropped the feed dogs.

    • @SewVeryEasy
      @SewVeryEasy  Před 5 lety +2

      when you are doing a free motion design the feed dogs general need to be down. This gives you the freedom to move the quilt freely. When you are using a walking foot the feed dogs need to be up to help the machine guide the fabric. hope this helps
