- We are currently producing a teaser for brilliant guitarist Michael Casswell for his upcoming solo album. Since he has a collection of rare and interesting guitars we talked him into bringing as many guitars as possible to the set.
They looked stunning, so we made a last minute decision to make another video of him telling us about his guitars. Hope you like it.

What a man Michael was. I was a student at ACM from 2012-15 and was lucky enough to have a lot of 1-2-1 tutorials with him and sit in a few workshops he’d do in the evenings.
One day we sat in a room for about 3hrs playing my R8 Les Paul (which he said was a “good” and played well!).
If you knew him, he was a no BS kinda guy. He spoke his mind. If you needed to practise - he’d tell you. People were actually afraid of him because he didn’t hold back! He had a standard and didn’t like people being lazy which, I respect.
The highest compliment I ever received from Michael came in a 121 tutorial I had. I was big into Derek Trucks and only started playing slide. I’d had many tutorials with him and one day he said “Max I don’t know why you book tutorials with me trying to play slide - I should be coming to you for slide tutorials!”
Another compliment was while teaching a few guitarists a finger picking exercise (me, now having played with my fingers similar to him). He gave the guitarists an exercise which a few struggled with - he turned to me and said “Max I know you’ve already got this down - I’ll give you something harder” - felt like that kid in class who the teacher knew needed something more challenging 😂
I miss sitting in a room with him, guitar in hand and both rewinding songs on my phone trying to learn a particular lick and just getting excited over guitars and music.
He has a song called “Friends for Life” which is so beautiful that, I struggle to listen to nowadays as it’s so pretty and brings me to tears while remembering such a good friend.
RIP Michael. Thank you for the memories.
R.i.p Michael Caswell. god bless his family and friends , missed by everyone. leaves a lot of teachings to us.
That sonic blue strat, wow.
If I'm not mistaken, John Lennon and George Harrison bought two identical coloured Stratocasters in 1965. George's ended up becoming the psychedelic painted version as seen in the video for I Am The Walrus.
RIP Michael :(
RIP Michael, your playing and teaching will be greatly missed but what you left behind will be forever remembered and appreciated. 😓
RIP Michael; a great loss, a great guy and a great guitarist.
RIP. What a great guy and a blessing to the musical community he had been.
Seems like he was a great guy. Very humble and down to earth, especially when you consider how talented he was. Sad to see someone like him die so young. RIP.
RIP Michael. Amazing player and tuitor.
God you are missed Michael... Fond memories of such a wonderful guy ♥
RIP Michael. You will be missed :(
Met him at a local gig, great guy and fantastic player rock on !

Truly amazing artist. Sadly missing.🥺
Michael is one of the best guitar players today! Great collection!
so sad watching this now , he was a nice guy and a brilliant guitar player
Great shame we don't have Michael around and still showing us guitars. He really knew his stuff and could play. For me, that yellow Strat in the background is the star.
That sonic blue "Pre CBS Stratocaster" is worth a god damn FORTUNE...
custom color, flame maple... yup
$15,000-$20,000
@@TaycroTC if it was refinished...it's worth at least $30'000 it's a custom color...I own 4 pre CBS strats ....sold one for $51'000 CAN..it was seafoam green
Impressive collection. Michael's a sublime guitarist, and his lessons are a pure joy.
Michael Casswell is fucking brilliant, by far the best guy lick library has.
+Liam Dowling Tone Monster.
between him and tom quayle
Thank you Michael for your gifts to us.
Best guitar collection I've seen on youtube for awhile esp the Fender Strats
Great video Michael. Glad to see that you have some of Steve Farris's guitars. I can't believe how many beautiful instruments were lost during the 2010 floods. And good luck with your new album, I've just downloaded it.
Great teacher. Miss him.
Impressive collection from great guitarist.thx sharing
RIP Michael
Michael had an AWESOME Blue Strat with a Maple Neck that was so Striped it looked like a Tiger, it was in a few of his Teaching Videos. I grew up about a 15 minute walk to the Fender Plant in the 60's-80, one of my childhood friend's Dad worked at Fender, so us "friends" had Fenders too, the Pawn Shops in Fullerton were full of them. I even bought a Strat Blueprint from a 1954 from a pawnshop not too far from Fender HQ ... I have a 1980 Black Strat singed by Robin Trower when he came to the Fender Factory for a Tour, I met him and I brought the Strat for signing he also was playing a black Strat for the Caravan to Midnight tour. Michael jammed with Robin a few times...that's why I mention Robin.
Great video and an amazing collection from.an amazing player..

RIP Michael. Such a loss.
R>I>P Micheal. Wonderful guy.
What a nice guy
RIP Michael
Michael is a great player with some great great guitars. And a nice pension fund in that 63 sonic blue Strat with the flame neck ;-)
RIP🙏
So so sad that’s he’s gone …..such a talent ……you go on holiday and end up drowned 🙏
Such a shame he was such a great talent will always remember him!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. Michael
Hey Michael,
Great collection. I agree with you in regards to Tyler guitars. They're fantastic and the purple smear is way cool i wish I had one.Have you tried any Tom Anderson's guitars? They're much like the Tyler's.
Hello Bill. Sorry to say that Mike passed away in 2016, so cannot answer your question.
RIP
The Les Paul...WOW!!!!
Michael resembles a Cream-era Clapton. Great player too.
RIP Micheal. 53 is far to young.
A great, great player that I admire quite a bit. I got a Sonic blue strat after seeing this video. Casswell wIll be missed and, sadly, did not leave enough music behind... or at least, not that I seem to be able to find.
I'll have a guess. Mr Caswell was 11 or 12 in 1975 or 1976 and the 1963 Strat was 12 years old at the time ( same age as Michael) I reckon he would have paid something like £150 at the time. I would love to know if he had a paper round as it would have been a while for a kid to save the money. I bought a 61 Strat in 1983 for about £350
***** I'm cool man. Yes I still have it. The guitar trader who sold it to me all those years ago still remembers. It is not perfect ( there is a well hidden issue) but I did really well seeing that it was probably cheaper than shelling out for it new or £150 which they were 2nd hand in the mid 70's
new sub here.. nice collections mate
After he died we should all wonder.....
Where did his guitars go?
Rip Michael!
Hi Michael ! You've played such wunderfull licks on your pink Fender Jeff Beck Strat from the nineties. What happened to that guitar ?
Greets & rock on..:)
R.I.P. - sorry , i did not know. What the f... happened ?
Thanks for sharing - must admit I have 2 criteria for buying does it play well and sound good - if so who cares about the rest IMHO.
RIP😢
What I find amazing is that he's only got two tremolo springs in that strat. I just don't understand how its even playable! 🤷♂️
I do the same with 9-46 strings… I greatly prefer the feel of two springs.
What a cool guy. Such a loss, great player too.
rip Michael
I had a 93 Classic just like that. Cool but not quite the Custom Shop level of today
Wow, didn't know that he'd passed away.
Michael had a tremendous guitar collection, at the level of his great talent. We miss his pro-concepts and gentle presence on the Internet. With all due respect, does anyone know where these beautiful instruments ended up, or what the Estate did or wants to do with them ? R.I.P. Michael ! \m/
this collection is still intact and with his sons now.
i dont know who hes rip mate my condolences to hid family and freinds rock on mate
What is a second guitar?
Whatever happened to Steve Farris and Mr Mister ?... What a brilliant player and classy band.
He left music industry 15 years ago. Listen to this awesome interview with him, made in May this year: thehustle.podbean.com/e/ep-156-happy-3rd-birthday-to-us-with-steve-farris-of-mr-mister/
ha ha, I had Mick at my house looking at a guitar a Tyler I was selling I don't think he had one then. He was trying my strat a 56 with a crazy flame neck that he loved but I was not selling that one now I know why.
Didn't mention his black and gold Brian May guitar
He seems very modest..
He was brian may's session guitarist until he upstaged him. ;)
Quodge when did he upstage him? I'm sure Michael was a better guitarist that Dr May...
Can't say when.. I'm just a spinner of, an adder to legend. And yeah you're right. He would have dialled a killer tone just out of habit and torn it up on principal. A throughly decent bloke. And he had to live with one of the worst talent to appreciation ratios going for a world class level guitarist.
Willmaatealrii I He knew a thing or two about jovial constructive criticism. In the one year I knew him, he taught performance and guitar technique at ACM Guildford (He was sacked at the end of the year for reasons that are kinda unclear). Brilliant teacher, excellent motivator, obsessed by vibrato.
Who knows? Had he kept his job there, he might still be alive...
who's his guitar tech ?
Gotta be a shop surely ???
rip
RIP, sad loss.
omg that flame neck just made me shit my pants! wowowow
Looked like roasted 2 me ^^
"look at the flame on that one..."
How do you repair a guitar neck that is warped 'like a banana'?
Truss rod adjustment in combination with muscled force.
And patience. Lots and lots of patience.
+zodiacbluesbaby There's some heating process too. Like metal, wood has a "memory" of where it's supposed to be.
there is nothing cooler than a black strat on earth .other than jimi.
R.I.P. rector
RIH Michael
Water took him :( rip
R.I.P, but i still don't understand how he died. What do they mean by an accident? Did he drown? Bullshit, sad loss. My condolences to his family and friends...
How eerily akin to Spinal Tap.
It's a fine line between clever and stupid, inn'it?
Looks like Michael liked jumbo frets,,,
A lot of custom necks. A lot of Tyler's it looks like
How did he die ?
BUT these go to a 11
So sad he's gone too soon
