After I had my thyroid nodule diagnosed, I ran into the tech who did my thyroid neck scan in the hospital cafeteria three months later. I told her that my biopsy came back showing cancer. She told me she could tell right away that it was probably cancer, but she did not tell me. She told me the reason she spent a long time doing my scan was that she wanted to get the entire neck area (as ordered by the my doctor) and pay close attention to the lymph nodes. So yes, in a lot of cases technicians have a good idea right away the diagnosis especially if they see the condition a lot. However, they can't tell the patient what they think the diagnosis will be.
I will be one of the few first ultrasound technician in the U.S. to really fight and to pass, and to inspire and get a career in this area. I am aiming to become an pediatric cardiovascular sonographer and hoping to be placed to work in a children's hospital. I have found a school that I will be attending soon this fall, they had a deaf student succeeding and graduated and she moved to Colorado. She successfully worked in the field for 15+ years. I will some day start vblogging my journey as a deaf sonographer student, and my struggles and share my successes experiences. I am truly looking forward to it. I have completed and passed my nursing assistant program back in 2013. I also have 3 children. I hope I can have this sonofamily group to support me as well along the way! Best of luck to yall! Sending love.

I am interested in Pediatric Cardiac Sonography. If I go this route, would I be able to sit in for both the adult and pediatric boards or just pediatrics?
Hi!! I'm interested in going into an ultrasound program and have been looking at schools. I was wondering if you could tell me about your semester courses or schedules you had during the year.
Each semester is drastically different, my first semester was in into time patient care class only 2 days a week, this semester I had Echo, two days a week one lecture and one lab, vascular twice a week, one lab and one lecture and then clinical at various locations every Monday for half of the day. Next semester will be the exact same except I will all EKG and Ultrasound physics and I’ll be in school 5 days a week. Then it’ll change where it’ll be less class time and more clinical time until the end we will be in Clinicals for 24-31 hours a week and review class for board exams!
I am looking into into the idea it looks like a really interesting career but I'm scared I might not be physically strong enough - I have a reconstructed hip and walking can get pretty difficult for me but im not 'disabled' enough to not work...
What are the prerequisites for the programs, I’m about to graduate High school and I really don’t understand what to do right after to become and ultrasound tech
Such a great video! Thank you 😊 I was wondering if you needed to take the TEAS test prior to admission/applying to the program? Also, as far as accreditation... I have a few questions regarding that. If you have another form of contact (such as email or ig) and can be of help, I would greatly appreciate it. In the meantime stay safe and healthy 🤗
Hello 👋🏽, I actually starting my classes for the fall. I’m taking A&P 1 n lab, and statistics. I’m terrified of statistics. Then I only have 5 class to take before I can apply for the program. I’m excited and nervous. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I don’t know if I should start my vlog journey now or when I get in the program.
TAMEKA SHABREE' yes yes yes! Welcome to the Sono Community ❤️ you’re going to do so well! Better than you’d ever think. You should start now 🙌🏾 I’d subscribe. This is when you’ll have real, raw feelings about the program and your process. I should have done that lol. Now I’m playing catch up.
SonoMom Thanks girl, I’m ready for this journey. I didn’t think about it like that...I think your doing an awesome job sharing your experience with us. It’s not a lot Sonograpghers on CZcams. I was so glad when I came across and I immediately subscribe. I have watched all your videos 😊👍🏽
I want to choose over the sonogsrphy, I will graduate from EFL in this summer, but what are the lesson that most take before choosing a major and does a high rate required this major
I know it’s a dumb question but when do you pick what field you specialize in ? I’m finishing up my GE/AS & then I’m going to go to a local community college for this
Hello! I love this video. I was wondering what getting a bachelor's degree in sonography would further enable you to do if you are not planning to work in corporate? Furthermore, do you take the specialized Cardio program while completing your associate's degree or is this afterward?
Most schools you do a few days usually 2 days of online classes for your associates and 2/3 days of CtV sonogram and obgyn Sonographer. I start in March I’m 30 haven’t been in school in 9 years good luck it’s a great career and in demand!!!
How did you decide between DMS or CVS? Is schooling for CVS much more difficult? Is the job outlook similar for both? I graduate this May with an Ex Sci degree, trying to decide which career path to pursue!
I’m just about to graduate highschool and am planning on going to school for sonography. I really struggle with physics and whenever I read about sonography they always say enjoys physics or requires physics so I’m just wondering if physics does play a huge role? Or if it’s something I can get past
Elise Miller hi! Congratulations on almost graduating High school. I do not enjoy physics at all. Acoustic Physics is required to be a sonographer. That is actually the first Board exam you’ll be required to take before taking your board exams to get your actual credentials. Physics is a big deal, physics regarding sounds and instrumentation at least. You can not escape it.
I have a question.I have my GED AND now I am at an ultrasound school.Once I am done and pass my SPU,CCI and my ARDMS test how much will my salary be in NYC?I don’t have an associate degree or a bachelors degree?
I have earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology. I am now interested in the healthcare field, but I will like to know if a school will accept me since their programs offer Associates & Bachelor’s Sonography.
this was super helpful ! , im a junior in high school and was wondering if you knew if there is a separate program for an ob sonographer or if it is the same thing
Hannah Brandhofer It’s FANTASTIC that you are looking into this while you’re a junior. OB is not by it self, you’d be in DMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonography) that includes OB, abdomen)
my commuinty college offers DMS for two years but the university i plan to transfer to does not include sonography or radiology. What do you suggest i get my bachelors of science in? Or overall, what do you suggest?
this was a great video! I’m wondering what’s the difference if you get a associates degree vs a bachelors degree? if u get a bachelors degree does it pay extra a and is it easier to get jobs?
Laila Ashraf Thanks so much for watching! To your question, such a simple answer for this. No difference at all, you don’t get offered more pay and you don’t get jobs faster. Why not get it done in 2 years right 😌! Great question!
@sonoMom u didn't mention anything about international students is it hard to become a sonographer for them in US after having 4 years bachelors degree in radiology technology ?
What Job would u recommend to work as while in school or before to get experience? I am on a waitlist for 2 years and I want to have a job to get experience with patients.
Do you need a college degree? I’m a high school dropout (due to economic reasons) but I plan on getting my GED. I absolutely cannot afford university or college though.
There are most definitely certificate only sonography programs, you just have to look for it. Financial aid could help you with a degree and certify program. Especially for a community college ❤️
That's beautiful I love sonography, what are u doing now the associate degree or bachelor's.? I'm doing associate degree in medical assistant but I really want to do my bachelor's in diagnostic medical sonographer. 😊😊 god bless u always . I'm from New York 😊😊😊😊 I'm so glad i found your video
N Labib Hiii!!! Thank you for watching ❤️ welcome to the sonogang!!! I am doing my associate in sonography sling with a certificate of course! I’m not sure, I may do a follow up bachelors for later if I want to be an instructor ❤️❤️❤️ great luck to you!!
SonoMom Was it difficult for you to get into the program. Did yours have a point based system. I live in NC and I am switching from teaching to sonography but it’s only a limited amount of seats in the program. Did you start in the healthcare field and then went back and got your associates
If I go for cardiovascular sonography.. can I take a continued education class so I can sit for the nureosonography exam? Or how does that work? I wanna do the heart and brain.
Tasha Grasty Great Question, where I am you’d have to get some experience with Neurosonography in the work industry as in shadowing and interning after graduation to be able to do that. We don’t have an actual class for it. I’m not sure if all states are the same. Vascular learns some things as far as ultrasound around the brain but not in depth.
hello sono mom, Ive been looking this field for sometime now, I love sonography and I think I would be perfect for this field. one big problem thou! I'm horrible in math! and I know math has to be involved in this career can you give me a little detail on this ? also which should I go to school for? I know you are going for cardiac ultrasound? is there different schools for different ultrasound? I live in nyc
Do you deal with insurance? Is there another side to it like office skills? Or is is just diagnostic imaging and making reports all day? Is this field conservative? I have a passion for the medical field but I also never got to express myself and I want to. I want to dye my hair crazy colors, get tattoos, etc.
So glad I found you! Love the video! I’m currently a stay at home mom and really want to pursue in this career field. I’ve been out of school for 7 years and really want to jump back in but I’m worried about anatomy & physiology, biology, anything in that area! Would you say they were pretty hard??? I’m definitely weak in these type of classes 😔
I was a stay at home mommy for 1 year and it was HARD! You’re such a superwoman already! 🥰 I was out of school for 4 years and jumped back in as well so I understand where you’re coming from, those classes are a challenge because there is so much to know BUT if you create study habits (I highly suggest notecards) it’s ABSOLUTELY doable. I’d also like to add, you’ve been out for 7 years, you may come back bigger and better and EXCEL in these subjects. I can say, I came back smarter and wiser 4 years later 😍😍😍 SHOOT FOR THE STARS! Thanks for watching!!! Welcome to the Sonogang ❤️
I’m studying to become this but I’m absolutely horrible at math so do you use a lot of it and do you have to be good at math to succeed cause I’m scared I will fail the test if it’s a lot to do with math
I am a radiographer from Nigeria currently running an Msc in medical imaging but specializing in ultrasound.... But ma dream is to practice in the US as a sonographer after this... So my question is what are the perquisite for my case to be a practicing sonographer there as an MSC holder in ultrasound from Nigeria....
ariel fletcher hi!! Congratulations on graduating high school! So once you choose a college, you’ll meet with an advisor and they’ll let you know EXACTLY what classes to take to make sure your on track. Their are certain requirements and all schools are different but they will guide you every step of the way ❤️
Thanks for nice video. Can you please tell me about the eligibility criteria and study path for non US citizen Indian medical graduate for becoming a Sonographer in the US?
Hey, I am planing to major in this in college but I having trouble finding a school who has this major. I’ll will just be leaving high school to get into college. I was wonder if this fall under the health science or health education.
The school that I’m planning on attending is diagnostic sonography. But I wanted to specialize in either pediatric or neuro. How do I do that? Is it after I finish or?

Each semester is drastically different, my first semester was in into time patient care class only 2 days a week, this semester I had Echo, two days a week one lecture and one lab, vascular twice a week, one lab and one lecture and then clinical at various locations every Monday for half of the day. Next semester will be the exact same except I will all EKG and Ultrasound physics and I’ll be in school 5 days a week. Then it’ll change where it’ll be less class time and more clinical time until the end we will be in Clinicals for 24-31 hours a week and review class for board exams!
I will be going to Keiser for the DMS Program Thank You For This Video
Oh you’re so welcome! You’ll do amazing in DMS! ❤️
Awesome, I'm thinking of Keiser aswell, what are some things you had to do?
@@dinky_comments YES LOVE I STARTED ALREADY
@@jehovahschild7343 cool, how did you get into the program? Was it hard
Hi, what’s the name of that violin song playing in the intro? I have been searching for it for years.
Jay Tovar at my school, Nursing students take TEAS, sonography students do not. Sure! Sonomom is my IG ❤️ I’d be happy to help!
SonoMom thanks so much lovely! I’ll be sure to follow you on IG 💜
Great video👍
I just got accepted into a cardiac Sonography program. The hospital i work at has a max cap of $55.37 per hour
What state you work at ?

hey sonomom! your video was very informational and interesting! but i do have one question. do sonographers use math ON the job?
TAMEKA SHABREE' you have no idea how much that means to me! Thank you for all of your support. NEVER give up 🥰
SonoMom I won’t give up, I’m happy that I finally know what I want to do with me life lol. You’re welcome I look forward to upcoming videos.
Don’t worry stats is a piece of cake
I want to choose over the sonogsrphy, I will graduate from EFL in this summer, but what are the lesson that most take before choosing a major and does a high rate required this major
Im aiming to become an OB/GYN Sonographer
@@billyjean7454 lord I’ll be 31 and I’m looking to apply to a program I’m sooooooo excited I pray I get in
How did you decide between DMS or CVS? Is schooling for CVS much more difficult? Is the job outlook similar for both? I graduate this May with an Ex Sci degree, trying to decide which career path to pursue!
Im in my 1st semester of echo sonography. Thanks for the insight!
Oh great luck to you! TEAM CARDIOVASCULAR OVER HERE! ❤️
How do you find out which sonography program you’d be interested in ? I haven’t started school yet and I’m not sure which route I’d want to take
I’m just about to graduate highschool and am planning on going to school for sonography.
How long is schooling for cardiovascular sonography including pre-reqs?
Thank you for watching 😍😍😍😍
Is there schools just for cvs or its something u add on after diagn. Sonography?
my commuinty college offers DMS for two years but the university i plan to transfer to does not include sonography or radiology.
I have been through 100 careers, I think I finally found one
What are the classes like that you have to take? Is it a lot of math classes or science?
If I go for cardiovascular sonography.. can I take a continued education class so I can sit for the nureosonography exam? Or how does that work? I wanna do the heart and brain.
Tasha Grasty Great Question, where I am you’d have to get some experience with Neurosonography in the work industry as in shadowing and interning after graduation to be able to do that. We don’t have an actual class for it. I’m not sure if all states are the same. Vascular learns some things as far as ultrasound around the brain but not in depth.
I just got accepted into CVT program and I'm looking into going for non invasive
I'm interested in doing sonography but the job outlook is low in CA 😓 and i dont want to move out of state
hello sono mom, Ive been looking this field for sometime now, I love sonography and I think I would be perfect for this field. one big problem thou! I'm horrible in math! and I know math has to be involved in this career can you give me a little detail on this ? also which should I go to school for? I know you are going for cardiac ultrasound? is there different schools for different ultrasound? I live in nyc
Hey! I’m in nyc as well. What school/program are you looking into? I’m trying to find an accredited one
Hey! So proud of you for thinking about ultrasound! Find a school that is accredited! You can go to general or cardiac! :) Good luck!
Math isn’t hugely involved in ultrasound!

@@joelledavis4711 Hi !! I’m in ny as well . How to find accredited school?

Hi! I am looking into neuro sonography but I don't know what colleges should I attend to? Do I look for colleges that have a ultrasound programs?
Hi,
I am a radiologist in Algeria. How can I get to be certified to work as a sonographer in the US?
I love this question. SAHM here, been out for 10 years but I plan to do this. I love all science and math, minus the chem because it is hard for me.
Nth
im in this same situation right now. did you go to school after all? would like to know
I’m studying to become this but I’m absolutely horrible at math so do you use a lot of it and do you have to be good at math to succeed cause I’m scared I will fail the test if it’s a lot to do with math
Hai sonomom❤️...Am from INDIA and am planing to join sonography in uk..could you plz suggest whether i should do MSC or a diploma in sonography
Heyy I’m a senior in high school and planning on doing this what classes do you prefer I take my first year of college
ariel fletcher hi!!
Golam Kausher Hi! I don’t have answers for you right now, let me do some research and get back to you on that. GREAT QUESTION!

Congratulations on getting ready for your journey! This would be considered an Allied Health program ❤️
The school that I’m planning on attending is diagnostic sonography. But I wanted to specialize in either pediatric or neuro. How do I do that? Is it after I finish or?
Two Alright often times you can cross train for peds and fetal echo. neuro, is a whole new world so I have no idea, I should look that up!
