    Montebello is very popular road in Silicon Valley (where Ritchey is) that everyone compares times on, and that connects to an open space preserve at the top with some fire road and single track. This is a great set up for it, especially with fenders in the winter.

    • @litchips
      @litchips Před 3 měsíci +1

      It's a nice ride, basically 2 climbs with a flat section in the middle and some shade. There are steeper grades in the area but this one you don't have to ride your brakes on the downhill. Not many cars since no through traffic.

    Nice move from Ritchey. They had a similar concept of fork on the WCS CARBON TAPERED ADVENTURE GRAVEL FORK. Too bad it doesn’t come stock with the Outback/Outback breakaway.
    Regarding Tyre clearance as I comment on other video, they need to pass iso4210 norm which demands 6mm space for the stated clearance ,
    So normally you can always fit a bigger Tyre than what is stated.
    Regarding bigger head tube vs spacers, normally you shouldn’t have more 4cm of spacers (it may vary from brand to brand).
    Do you think we will ever see again any vbrake/canti bike from Ritchey? What most annoys me on my Outback is the disks.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hello Skinnie - the Outback has extra bosses on the sides fork max payload is 3 kg. Yes correct it is usually 30mm of maximum spacers below the stem. When I said I like to play with the height of my bars I meant working within those 3cm not more. I can literally make any bike work. People that need a specific geometry and nothing else is baffling to me. For bike brands anything other than discs is considering going backwards in technology. You and I know that isn’t true but I would not expect V or Canti ever again. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing

    Thanks to you, I finally got with the program and I ordered a frame set that I have been pondering for at least a year. None too soon either, as it was the last 920 frame set in size 56 that Trek had left in their Wisconsin warehouse.

    Regarding road logic geometry. I got the rim road logic in a 55 as well and it has indeed a race geometry but I don’t get the hate, it’s easily adjustable. I put on a 90 mill stem and those specialized short reach handlebars you can get anywhere for little money, 20 mill of spacers and voila you have endurance geometry.

    Loving it. Given that most bike riders will never race-most don’t need race bikes! Also in many countries the roads are terrible. So large tyre volume is much needed. However it seems that we are in a transition from race bikes,all road,endurance,gravel….interesting to see how it unfolds.( am from racing background,so my road bikes reflect this.).

    Great looking rig--as it goes with Ritchey. RE: Geo I just sold my RL b/c of the racey geo. It fit me well and offers a great ride, but as someone very late to road bikes after decades of only riding mtb, I came to realize I prefer a taller stack and clearance for at least 35mm tires. Ended up buying an Ascent frame over the Outback after a lot of homework and geo comparisons against numerous bikes, including others that I own.

      My history is just the opposite of yours. I came from race bike geometries riding 54cm bikes with 120mm head tubes (Felt F1) and a few others in the 130's Then Cervelos with 140mm head tubes in 54cm. Now I ride a 55cm RL with a 160mm head tube and it feels really tall lol! But it's fine I am nearing 60 years old I should be getting taller head tube bikes right? I think 32's feel clunky, heavy and slow but I started riding them because they say they are faster lol! I think the 28mm feels wonderful and the 30's is a bit of a push to the big side. But we all change and adapt.

    If this was available back in 2021 when I bought my Road Logic, I totally would have bought this. I have strap on fenders from SKS, and frame and saddle bags for credit card touring, but the RL is still a race bike. Even with the stacked spacers and 70 mm 35 degree stem I have on there. I've been able to fit 32mm tires with TRP calipers on a 17mm internal width rim. But this Montebello looks incredible. I'm very tempted to do a frame swap.

    Interesting. Too bad they didn't go all the way in regards to the tires. A bike that can fit 650b x 42, with fenders, is a real sweet spot for rando type applications. The Rene Herse Babyshoe Pass tire is a great example.
    Also, I hope that the rack is just a prototype example, the angle that it sits at is very visually unappealing and suggests a lack of care when it comes to nailing the finer details of a bike like this.
    Lastly, I'd be very interested in seeing the geo. charts for this bike. I hope they went with a lower trail design, in order to obtain good handling characteristics when carrying a front load.

    Has the algorithm been watching me 😮I have been over the last few days trying to find a steel bike that can be used for randonneuring. I found your channel as I was trying to see if I could convert/replace my 1997 Lemond Zurich fork. I found Ritchey as one of the few steel US road bike companies. I then saw your videos on the Logic and started thinking I should get a Logic as I love the Steel ride quality. But I really was torn as it seemed I would just be replacing what I already had in the Zurich. Now with this announcement, the additional hesitation I had about tire clearance, racks and stack, etc, are solved! Would love to understand the new geometry and release timing.

      Ciao. I've have both bikes. Similar ride but the Logic is a bit firmer due to the 1 1/8" steerer vs 1" for the Zurich. If you need or want to replace the threaded 1" Lemond fork, Ritchey still makes a 1" threadless CF fork. I've done that too. Of the two, I like the flexier bike most days and the other one for under biking. Neither is designed to hang stuff. I just wear or carry a cheapo string bag for long rides.

    • @AaronDimonio
      @AaronDimonio Před 3 měsíci

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad I don't know the numbers. Several years ago when brevet and rando bikes were having a moment in the sun, many of them had low trail figures, as opposed to the relatively higher trail figures on a road bike. I test rode some of them and the front end was way too floppy. But the idea, as I understood it back then, was that the low trail was purposeful because when combined with a big bag on a front rack, it supposedly re-stabilized the handling. Since I never used a front bag/rack, I never saw any need for a low trail bike that was floppy in the front.

    I have just built up a 57cm Road Logic disc, I run 32mm Rene Herse tyres on a pair of hunts with a 25mm internal diameter. I think you would be able to squeeze some 34mm tires in - depending on the wheel. As for fit, well - look at the geometry chart! This new one looks really interesting - although I got the Road Logic as I don’t own a racy steel bike at the moment. She has Paul Klampers, rather than hydros and a mix or dura ace and Ultegra drivetrain with a rotor 48/32 crankset paired with the 11/34 Ultegra cassette. Easy to maintain and fix. I love Ritchey bikes and I think the Montebello would make a beautiful all arounder but there are some things that would keep me from buying it for Rando. At 64mm it has too much trail for a front loader. They should fix the cockeyed angle of the front rack. It's a small thing but it really detracts. Since it's a disc bike it might be possible to run 650B tires if the bottom bracket isn't too low (too lazy to look it up). If I couldn't run at least 650Bx38 I wouldn't bother.
