Surly Bridge Club Build Series Episode 1: Unboxing

- In this first episode, I start my Surly Bridge Club bike build by unboxing the frame. That Whipped Butter color is quite a thing. Sometimes it looks desert tan, and in other light it looks yellow. This bike is a size medium and I'm 5'7" with short legs and normal torso length. Follow along as I probably make poor decisions and spend all of the money on my ATB bike build. Steel is real!

Nice! Don't own a Bridge Club but I was never more excited about new bike day than when I received my Surly Karate Monkey.
The Karate Monkey was on my list for sure. In the end I wanted a 27.5" wheel bike without any suspension, as I already have a hardtail that I built last year. The first ride on this bike is for sure gonna be exciting. Enjoy!
you have chosen wisely... I absolutely love mine.
Waiting for part 2! 😁
Cool. Thanks for watching. Once more parts arrive, I will post a video on what I chose and why. Then hopefully a video on putting it all together.
I was considering getting this, bike the price difference between this and the Marin Four Corners was insane in India. The Marin was 120 dollars more for the full bike compared to the Surly frameset. As much I love the BC, I think they missed a trick by letting go of the horizontal dropouts which they had on the Surly Troll. That said, the Surly BC is a genuine "one bike does it all/most" bike. Congrats and hope to see part 2 very soon. Subscribed!!!
Wow! Definitely not the same value we get here in the US. I benefit by living nearly next door to QBP here in the Twin Cities. I do agree about the dropouts, but I never plan to singlespeed this bike. So that doesn’t matter much to me. Finding modern wheelsets would also be easier if they used thru axles instead of the older quick release standard. I don’t think the axles are going to make much of a difference, but the QR ones will be easy to remove without getting out an allen wrench. I also like the vintage look. Thanks for watching!
@@mattdesmondwashere I agree on the QR vs TA. Just as disc brakes evangelists want you to believe rim brakes are no longer usable, TA evangelists act like QRs are a disaster waiting to happen. People forget that until recently, World cup winning Downhill Bikes came with QRs! Yes, I agree about the look, sure looks lovely. Do you plan to run this with flat bars? THis will look dope with drop bars too, but I doubt the geo is suited for Drop bars.
@@amitkumar-wj8gn I am going to try out alt bars. Ordered the Velo Orange crazy bars. I’m not a fan of drop bars, especially on a bike that will get use on singletrack. The crazy bars have extensions that act like the hoods of drops. I think this will work great for longer rides to have multiple hand positions. The shifter and brake levers will be at the ends like a normal MTB for good maneuverability in the rough stuff. I have a pair of Jones bars, but I usually like regular flat bars, so we’ll see if I end up keeping my initial choice.
Hola que talla es la surly
Es un medio.
What size is the frame and how tall are you?
This is a medium and I’m 5’7” with short legs. I have a 0 setback seatpost going on it and a 60mm stem with swept back bars. Might have been able to do an 80mm stem. I still may play with that after getting a few rides in.
