  • This sacred hymn presents the loftiest, non-dual teachings of advaita Vedanta in delightful verses rich with powerful metaphors. Shankaracharya himself is portrayed in this video, reciting his own work.
vishwam darpana drishyamana nagari, they hymn begins, describing how the world projected by God, by Ishwara, like a city seen in a mirror. This profound hymn explores some of the sophisticated concepts of advaita vedanta, such as adhyasa, superimposition, abhimana, identification, ajnana, ignorance, avarana shakti, veiling power, vikshepa shakti, projecting power, pratibimba vada, doctrine of projection, and avaccheda vada, doctrine of limitation. All this establishes the true nature of self, atma, to be saccidananda, limitless existence, sat and awareness or consciousness, cit, that is forever full, ananda.
Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: www.arshabodha.org/

    Namaste Swamji.
Another blessing of you to the world! One can feel the dedication and skill in this video. 🙏🏻 Thank you for being.
The mind picks up on the words ordinary versus not ordinary. I hope you don’t mind writing something about this in this comment section.
Around 23 min. the following is said: “It might feel quite ordinairy to you” ,
“consciousness is anything but ordinary. It is the divinity forever shining within you.” And verse 7a follows…
Yes, it does indeed feel very ordinary, although we shouldn’t go by our feelings to evaluate (the world). But if I am always present, all pervading, forever shining, can we say it is not ordinary?
If consciousness is not ordinary, it implies a certain uniqueness, which is true in sofar as it is not two. (Cannot really use the phrase ‘one of kind’ here :)).
However, what I can see happening with this implication of being unique, is that the mind goes on chasing this as an object, which as you know is not ‘the way to go’. Maybe ‘not ordinary’ implies something else, or it is meant in another way, but this is the disadvantage I see. An advantage of calling consciousness ordinary is that this seems to keep enlightenment-sickness under check and attributes to humility of the jiva.
If the negation of not ordinary extends to not unique, than of course there is no problem at all.
Maybe you could elaborate on why you emphased ‘not ordinary’ in this context?
It is meant for encouragement of the student?
    Thank you Swamji, 🙏🏻 ☀️
    Suus

An orange robed renunciate sat upon orange seats at the walmart i frequented. I saw beyond the camouflage! My wit to engage was lacking until I was taken to the hospital for anaphlacitic shock due to wasp stings & prescribed medicine to be filled at walmart. I was finally able to be in close proximitity, he asked how I was & I lied! I was still reeling from the trauma & treatment. I sat a while & regretted my off hand reply & when I saw him I begged his forgiveness for lying. He swooped his hand towards the sun & asked "isn't it beautiful?" I looked and saw people getting out of vehicles coming towards the store, "yes they are!"! He said "God bless you" & I blessed him back. Was that appropriate?

It's kind of interesting how even on our planet, ignorance seems to be split north and south. For example, South Americans are more ignorant than North Americans. Americans are more ignorant than Canadians, The South in the USA is more ignorant than the northern states. Also in Europe, Africa is more ignorant than Europe, and southern European countries are more ignorant than northern ones. Of course this is a vast generalization that doesn't always fit, but I think there's a hint of truth to it.

The cardinal points are symbolic of the mortality-immortality binomial. The south is associated with Lord Yama, who presides over death. Lord Dakṣiṇāmurti, who faces south, is the conqueror of death, called Mṛtyunjayaḥ. True intelligence consists in directing our mind towards īśvara, dedicating our lives to the Lord of the Universe. True ignorance is the non-recognition of our true spiritual nature as sat-cit-ānanda-ātmā.

    • @alukuhito
      @alukuhito Před 2 lety

@@DrDevil-dm7wy It's just an aside. It's an observation, obviously biased, about how north and south plays out on our planet. It's not like I actually think that on our planet the more north you go, it's a rule that the less ignorant the people are.
