For the lead character to have minimal lines, Kurt really did nail this movie!
This scene is actually pretty sad. Orphaned, taken away from your birthright, forced to train, torment and tormenred and kill or be killed, and then finally, when you're deemed too out of spec or outdated, you get replaced by someone stronger and better with hell lesser mercy and understanding than you makes this scene so heartbreaking, like from Todd's tone, he's a man trapped within a killing machine but not without heart and conscience, but with pain and emotions instead, being able to feel sympathy and sadness. No matter how deadlt or sessoned a warrior you're, in the end you're still a human, a victim without your own free will, a pawn or a puppet in somebody else's game of cat and mouse. His words were expressed through emotions, and he felt it but never had a clear reason ro let it out, to cry it out. I don't understand why people hated this movie, I love it very much and Kurt Russell definitely nailed the character like a finely done sculpture from pure rocks and skill! The story, the acting, everything with this movie was amazingly awesome!
This sort of thing happened a lot in the 1980's. "They" take your job/vocation and give it to others and then it becomes a government job and you are out in the street!
thats kind of fate of soldier, they teach you kill and then send you live happily, but noone teach you to live or be happy.
For me it was because the fight choreography was atrocious, even by the standards of the day.
Your point is well made, but don't forget that some people lack conscience and morals. They can relish at other people's pain and suffering. These people are the sociopaths and/or psychopaths. I would not be out of bounds to say that "some" do end up as soldiers.

You'll find it most easily in Goodwill or other local thrift /secondhand stores that regularly restock their used DVDs & videotapes. It may take a year or so of repeated visits to look. That's how I got a copy.
Make sure and closely inspect the disc inside for intact playability before buying.

This video saved me when I had Corona. Couldn't taste food nor eat without gaging for days, until I saw this. I just sat down and filled my body like a machine in same manner. I remember I went to throw up, then just returned and continue eating emotionlessly. I put myself and my mind in different dimension and just automatically shoveled food into my mouth. Helped my body to recover.

this was a cool scene. the moment kurt russel stands up abruptly and everyone flinches in reaction. it's similar to reacting to a large animal, such as a horse or a bull/cow with a wild temperament.
I know right? I always loved this scene and how intimidated everyone was when he stood up showing that even though he was "replaced", he was still a force to be reckoned with. Kurt Russell was phenomenal in this movie and the fact that he got in incredible shape for his role made it even more badass. This is definitely one of my all time favorite flims

My brothers were absolute shit.
My father is a man of few words... but I thank him for showing films like these, a may have had a different way of teaching, but we bonded with these movies.. I'm glad insaw then growing up.. made me grow chest hair by the time I was 5..

@@abhishekjee919 this movie indeed is inspiration for the HALO franchise. Or at least the idea of training kids to be military combatants from an early age that were already superior to their peers in the SpartanII Program. The game developers even stated this back when HALO 2 was in development. Though there were no argumentation made to the child soldiers in this movie. There are quite a few parallels. Even Arcadia, the planet they are in right now is a Colony Planet in the HALO franchise. But that just may be because the name Arcadia is pretty prevalent in any space opera media.

One of my favorite movies
Legit underrated movie. Tremendous crossover potential with Star Wars, Dredd and a number of other movies. Fell in love with Todd's character.

One of the best actors ever. This scene reminds me of that movie where the super dusty cowboy walks into a bar and pays for a whole pot of beans and a loaf of bread and demolished it. I wish i knew the name of the flick. I THINK it was “Call Me Trinity”
They Call Me Trinity with Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. Watched it on Tubi a month or so ago along with the sequel, “Trinity is Still My Name”. Both are fantastic. The sequel is more slapstick. Both free to watch on Tubi.

Nutrition lasts longer than taste. When I was younger I used to have ice cream, mayonnaise and all that garbage. Then I had enough of it and switched to raw broccoli, capsicum, carrots, onions, tomatoes, grilled meat, olives, brown bread. Love it. Taste is a scam.

I remember renting this at blockbuster because it reminded me so much of GDI (Kurt) and the super soldiers (Nod). Being Command and Conquerer 2 was coming out the same year, I loved this movie.

This movie was sick, especially the intro history lesson
I like this film. Since he had been in the enemy camp so to speak, he know how they would react to the camp, and I liked the interaction between the civilians and him. He knew the soldiers would attack again and crush them unless resisted, while the civilians were innocent and naive.

I felt that to work on your craft give all to the cause then some pencil pusher comes along kicks out the hard working to replace him with a cheaper knock-off of his people..

Sci-fi is one of my least favorite genres, but this movie delivered---Kurt Russell especially. I believe one of the muscle magazines named him to a best list that year for his 'transformation'.

It's very understandable for Slade to ask Todd about why he is on Arcadia 234 and why he isn't with his men. Suspicion. Concern. Paranoia. Distrust. It's not Todd's fault he's been dumped on that garbage planet.

Lots to go into, but look it up. Pretty good information, but he is a Soldier for the TYRELL Corporation and Nexus 6 and was part of the 1st generation before Roy Batty. The battles Kurt fights in were referenced by Roy in the end of Blade Runner
This movie reminds me of my first 46 years in Siberia. Taken as a boy from a whore mother and put into training for the SVA. Became a killing machine in drop wars all over the world. And then one day "Devinosa, you're done...pack". I asked "what now?" and he said here is a passport w/a new name, you're moving to America to work security for a company over there. And that was that. I watch the movie every Christmas because it's as close to my comrades as I can come within the realm of art.

Watching this when it was released in my country, I felt sad for both the “old” and “new” soldiers.
Even though it was sci-fi/make-believe, it rings true in reality, where soldiers can be viewed more as tools rather than people.

In the Navy we had at least a full 20 minutes to eat after getting food.
That's why true fighters in the military eat fast, because most of the time they don't know when their next meal is.
