Thanks sooooo much for the details ! This will make my life so much easier ! The only things I don't have lying around are the pillow blocks and car spring ... I better get to the junkyard ! You rock !

A big thankyou from New Zealand. I wish I had your ingenuity-am thinking bout building; it won't be as good as yours though !Reason for contacting is that in N.Z ,and possibly where you live some of the older small size motorcycles had a cable operated front disc brake-may be possible to modify to make a deadmans brake. Once again thanks and all the best.

I'd say to make a pawl and dog that would latch the arm "UP"

You're a pretty clever guy and when I'm done with mine I'll tell everybody you copied my design. Seriously, nice job!

A great log splitter, thank you for the dimensions. About how far down from the arm does the axe head extend? I see that you have the overall length of the splitter head on the drawing but I cannot locate how far down the axe is from the arm. Thank you

The bottom of axe blade to arm is 19 inches.

The geometry is not correct. If the fulcrum is the same height as the wood to be split, the result is the same. The angle of the axe head makes no difference. The only other option would be a parallel action. Hate to be critical but brilliant effort! Haven't made mine yet.

Very nice splitter how would it work on 18 inch long hardwood with a 12 inch diameter? Also how heavy would the head of the splitter be? Thanks Dean

Instead of a caliper, use a pawl and dog...
