    Druqks is a higher level album you listen to after you've heard his lighter work and then you realize wow. This is the best album he has ever released.

    Aphex Twin actually has a lot of very pretty music with the sputtering beats. 4 (the opening track from Richard D. James Album) is one of my favorite songs of all time, if not my favorite. IZ-US and Flim are also very nice (from the Come to Daddy EP).

    Mind-boggling how this song doesn't repeat bars at all, but adheres to a traditional verse-chorus song structure. RDJ is absurd.

    Oh hey, it's my reddit comment!
    I think you'd find drukqs a really interesting album to react to, the balance between intense IDM and beautiful vignettes is very unique to me.
    Thanks for getting round to these! I look forward to your Boards of Canada reactions, they were the group that got me into electronic way back when.

    • @tomwilliams8591
      @tomwilliams8591 Před 2 lety

      Oh and I'd say your reaction to this and Autechre are very reasonable for someone who isn't 'into' the genre, so to speak. Boards were my gateway band, and to be honest I think you will massively prefer them.
      I personally absolutely love how the ambient melodies sprinkle over the percussion, but I get why it's not your cup of tea.
      Again, as Boards of Canada put melody front and centre, they are definitely going to be more up your alley.

    Drukqs(drug use) has a wide range of style, from modern classic piano tracks influenced by Eric Satie to drill n bass tracks. Worth reacting to. His newer release is pretty good, the Collapse ep. Richard has several alias, Aphex being only one of many. Also like The Tuss project.

      This what makes Richard d James interesting his discography is eclectic from techno to remixes to experimental, he's exploring all possibilities ( because of boredom i guess), hardware and software music can afford (i'm sure he's got a huge collection of synthesizers), "windowlicker" track and video is one of kind, probably the most original piece of music i've ever heard.

    About Drill 'n Bass and how Aphex "gets away with" how much the two components clash with each other, I think (as someone with a fleeting interest in the genre) that he gets away with it because the clash is pretty much on purpose. The clash between the ambien melodic synth and the frenetic drum is pretty much the point of this track.

    Another great reaction, thank you!
    I really like the drukqs album, but always wish RDJ had split it into piano/ambient and acid/techno disks, it's just to disjointed for me to listen to as an "album" experience, but that's just RDJ being the prankster I think... the single Girl/Boy Song is my favourite beats-with-a-tune Aphex track, where he really does show his genius for blending a fantastic classic melody with microbeats, would love to see your reaction to that... and SAW 1 is an all-time classic album, still sounds fresh as paint...

    Afx is about the only one who can get away with making a track so frantic on the beats and percussion but yet still hit the melodic notes well. Hes the only one who I like that that speed that can do it anyways....
    1991-95 afx/caustic window is where it's at though.
    I care because you do is his magnus opus
    Saw 1 and 2 are of course great as well. Saw 2 has 2 of my favorite ambient tracks of all time
