Druqks is a higher level album you listen to after you've heard his lighter work and then you realize wow. This is the best album he has ever released.
drukQs is a masterpiece that deserves to be reacted by everyone who has any true love for music.
you had to hear this in 2001 to really experience the magnitude
the context of "there is nothing else in the world quite like it" at the time, not even from rdj
Yep, me and my best friend binged on it back when it came out, it’s chaotic with the drum beats, so cool.
Aphex Twin actually has a lot of very pretty music with the sputtering beats. 4 (the opening track from Richard D. James Album) is one of my favorite songs of all time, if not my favorite. IZ-US and Flim are also very nice (from the Come to Daddy EP).
Mind-boggling how this song doesn't repeat bars at all, but adheres to a traditional verse-chorus song structure. RDJ is absurd.
Aphex is always worth reacting to. Drukqs songs are great choices.
Windowlicker is such a fun cool track. Give It another listen. Do It or we will never forgive you for ruin Blade Runner 2049.The video is hilarious.
I absolutely love AFX and would indeed love a couple of album reactions from you
Oh hey, it's my reddit comment!
I think you'd find drukqs a really interesting album to react to, the balance between intense IDM and beautiful vignettes is very unique to me.
Thanks for getting round to these! I look forward to your Boards of Canada reactions, they were the group that got me into electronic way back when.
Oh and I'd say your reaction to this and Autechre are very reasonable for someone who isn't 'into' the genre, so to speak. Boards were my gateway band, and to be honest I think you will massively prefer them.
I personally absolutely love how the ambient melodies sprinkle over the percussion, but I get why it's not your cup of tea.
Again, as Boards of Canada put melody front and centre, they are definitely going to be more up your alley.
Listed a few Aphex tracks that are melodic/ambient:
Jynweythek Ylow
IZ US
Petiatil Cx Htdui
Yellow Calx
Beautiful Japanese People (The Tuss)
Girl/Boy Song
Midi Pipe2c edit, +3 (Orphaned Deejay Selek)
Ageispolis
Flim
Btoum-Roumada
man. Alberto balsalm and Afx237 v7
Drukqs(drug use) has a wide range of style, from modern classic piano tracks influenced by Eric Satie to drill n bass tracks. Worth reacting to. His newer release is pretty good, the Collapse ep. Richard has several alias, Aphex being only one of many. Also like The Tuss project.
This what makes Richard d James interesting his discography is eclectic from techno to remixes to experimental, he's exploring all possibilities ( because of boredom i guess), hardware and software music can afford (i'm sure he's got a huge collection of synthesizers), "windowlicker" track and video is one of kind, probably the most original piece of music i've ever heard.
He said in an interview that “drukqs” had nothing to do with “drugs” tho
@@HoShIfox19 it has to do with pressing buttons, like "drücken" the word in german for pressing
@@peterpitcard 👌 class
The myth that the name comes from drugs or drug use is so corny and has been disproven by RDJ. He said the name has a meaning for him but he won’t say what it is.
i never listened to this album when i first started listening to aphex but after awhile i started listening and now most of my favorite aphex songs are from this album
About Drill 'n Bass and how Aphex "gets away with" how much the two components clash with each other, I think (as someone with a fleeting interest in the genre) that he gets away with it because the clash is pretty much on purpose. The clash between the ambien melodic synth and the frenetic drum is pretty much the point of this track.
More Aphex for sure! He nails ambient music and has a few solid classic piano compositions
Favorite track from this album "Avril 14th"
inside out music id say...its by design....very conceptual stuff...Object music...Also quite tribal african infulence ..you can hear the influence in richards music.
its controlled chaos!
a musician masterpiece
so complex and warm
I think SAW would be good to react to, but SAW II is just so long I don’t think it would be worth it. Maybe the Richard d James album tho, that one’s short. Also you really should check out Boards of Canada, I have a feeling they will be your favorite type of idm
I have all 4 BoC albums on my list of artists, so they'll be gotten to eventually.
I think Syro is underrated af to be honest
Too bad Everything You Do Is a Balloon is not on any of the full length albums.
Another great reaction, thank you!
I really like the drukqs album, but always wish RDJ had split it into piano/ambient and acid/techno disks, it's just to disjointed for me to listen to as an "album" experience, but that's just RDJ being the prankster I think... the single Girl/Boy Song is my favourite beats-with-a-tune Aphex track, where he really does show his genius for blending a fantastic classic melody with microbeats, would love to see your reaction to that... and SAW 1 is an all-time classic album, still sounds fresh as paint...
Afx is about the only one who can get away with making a track so frantic on the beats and percussion but yet still hit the melodic notes well. Hes the only one who I like that that speed that can do it anyways....
1991-95 afx/caustic window is where it's at though.
I care because you do is his magnus opus
Saw 1 and 2 are of course great as well. Saw 2 has 2 of my favorite ambient tracks of all time
I honestly would love to know on average how many tracks Richard uses for percussion.
It's the more ambient tracks that sit better with us miner mortals
I won’t lie, the last 2 to 3 minutes of 54 cymru beats gives me a nirvana-like state, unreal stuff
Ehh. I like both.
I do enjoy windowlicker
Those who can - do, those who can't, make reaction videos for YT.
What headphones do you have?
they look like AKG K240
Correct, K240s.
@@AlexHaitz akg's are excellent headphones. They dont press right against your ears so your ears dont get hot and you get ear fatigue. You need that space in the headphones
Do you not like "idm" because maybe your "I" modifier is too low? Lol😂 he is a beautiful mix of the most chill ambient with the glitchiest stuff I've ever heard, and its great.
I pause to type this comment saying don’t you dare to not love this piece
Agreed on drill n bass. Only afx can get away with that for me. Idm has the melody. And some and drum n bass has melody.
Idm > drill n bass
U are writing off drill n bass Alex
Most of IDM is percussion in front and melody in the background
@@tth1693 i think i have an understanding of idm. Thanks though
@@rediscoveryrecords1348 idm is a pretentious title for a genre.
@@wepsar I fully agree. I just use it when I am talking to people I don't know what their level of knowledge about electronic music is.
@@rediscoveryrecords1348 I wish it were something else. I feel like an asshole implying all other music genres are stupid when i use "IDM" lol.
ha. Run home to mama, you simpleton.
It’s pronounced crystal not ex-tal
Drukqs is actually a wordplay on the words "the ruckus" as in the noise
He must bring the ruckus to all you motherfuckers.
