- We are excited to announce 'Anno Domini 1989-1995', the first boxed set celebrating singer Tony Martin’s era of Black Sabbath. The set picks up Black Sabbath's story in 1989, two decades into the band’s ground-breaking career as metal originators.

Cozy Powell was a monster behind the kit!!
Headless Cross is an absolute gem in the Black Sabbath discography not to mention it's a killer song with an absolute dynamite killer riff
That song kicks so much ass!
Exactly! 🤘
The eternal idol is with Tony Martin too.
Wonder if the reason is that it isn’t from the same record company as the others? Would also explain why its the only tony Martin album on Spotify
These are the albums released on the IRS metal label only.
@@meurglys_iii yeah, ended up seeing that, record label exclusively sucks…but as long as Idol stays on Spotify and these join it, that works for me
I think the label went bust so there's legal reason as to why no Eternal idol
Sadly will not be in the box set.
What a great idea in marketing this box set through a well done video from the record label itself! Anno Mundi May 31st 2024!
Underrated Era
Tony Martin is a hell of a singer
Eternal Idol was my fave TM era album. An incredible vocalist.
Tyr is fantastic. Is the kind of album who grows listening after listening. Tyr !!!
Tyr is also a great band from the Faraoese Islands. You can thank me later.
@@jorm5382 Indeed - highly recommended!
Your eyes are *BURNIIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGG!*
@@jorm5382 also facts
The Tony Martin era was when I first got into Sabbath in high school. It is still the era I go back to most. Tyr, especially, always takes me on a journey.
Finally! It´s about time that the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath gets some attention. Tony Iommi´s remaster of the Forbidden album should be interesting, as Iommi hated the album on it´s original release. Sad that The Eternal Idol and Cross Purposes Live are not included, though.
💯 convinced that if this iteration of Sabbath had operated under a different name, we could be talking about one of the best metal bands ever. It's a shame that this version and in particular Tony Martin (one of the best metal singers ever- imo) did not get the recognition and respect they deserved. 🤘👏👍
I totally agree with you. This line-up was superb and as a singer, Tony Martin is amazing - both on record and in concert (I saw him in Black Sabbath and in a classic rock band in the mid-2000s). He deserves much more recognition as a top singer. I met him and he was very nice as well.
Love this, finally available on reissues those albums that are hard to find.
By the way, my favorite Tony Martin era Black Sabbath album is (unpopular opinion) Cross Purposes and its live album/VHS tape companion! That album is Heavy as hell. Favorite song: Virtual Death!
The live album isn’t included unfortunately.
Same, except my favorite song is Psychophobia.
Im guessing because it includes Ozzy and Dio songs? might be a copyright thing@@thefonzkiss
Yes! Virtual Death is incredible!
My ranking:
1) Tyr
2) Cross Purposes
3) Eternal Idol
4) Headless
5) Forbidden
Hey y'all, another Black, Black Sabbath fan here. 🙂 Can't wait for this collection to be released but it would have been nice if it included 'The Eternal Idol' - my favorite, and a new song or two with Iommi and Martin.
Headless cross is for sure my most favorite Album of Black Sabbath.
Tony was a Born again Believer! He preached at our church in Mississauga Ontario back in the late 80's
I have all these albums in some form (bought each one more or less new, including even Cross Purposes Live) as well as Eternal Idol which was still on Warner Bros. I am beyond psyched for this boxed set. The Martin era contained many gems and deserves to be properly recognized and celebrated. ✝😈👿🤘🤘
Tyr is my fave album. Great sounding, concept and songs. What a band !
So excited! This is my fav era of Sabbath - I prefer these albums to all but one of Ozzy's original Sabbath albums!
I love those albums! So glad they're available again. Too bad "The Eternal Idol" isn't included in the set, but I suppose it's because it was on a different label. Another fun fact: "Evil Eye" was written by Edward Van Halen.
Cowritten.
They could re-release Eternal Idol anyway. Buy the licence for this box only. Nothing weird about it.
Eternal Idol deluxe 2 cd Ed available on Sanctuary records with Tony Martin and Ray Gillen @@piotrlangtvedt
I have waited a long time for this, but better late than never, right? Tony Martin deserves more recognition for his work w/ BS for sure!
Thanks for the great video. This was a great era of Sabbath for me as I was a enormous fan of Cozy Powell.
Anyone else notice they used a clip off the music video for The Shining off Etetnal Idol?
I love each and every Tony Martin recording with Black Sabbath. It has a certain quality and magic as do albums with Ozzy and Dio.
My favourite album would be Tyr and it's the only one I was able to get two years ago 😁
Looking back, I remember liking Cross Purposes the most out of all the Martin era releases. It also turned 30 this January!
Missing the eternal idol. I have all the CDs, including the demo disc of eternal idol with Ray Gillen. LPs don't get the bonus tracks, but the CDs do. Iommi teased this for years and it gets released missing an entire album, very upsetting.
unfortunately so. However, Eternal Idol was released on Warner Bros.and they probably still own the copyrights maybe? Cross Purposes Live is not in the box set either and that maybe because it included both Ozzy and Dio material? Im still happy about this being released. having them on vinyl is great!
Eternal Idol seems to still be in print via Sanctuary’s Deluxe Edition as far as I can see as stores are still carrying firsthand copies at regular price. That being the case I think Tony had his priorities right by getting out these albums long out of print and in a one-stop purchase at a reasonable cost, EA or no.

ETERNAL IDOL IS ON WARNER BROS RECORDS THIS BOX SET IS THE 4 LOST IRS ALBUMS HEADLESS TYR PURPOSES AND FORBIDDEN IT WAS NEVER GOING TO HAVE IDOL ON IT WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT DIFFERENT RECORD LABELS
@@mutate34 "4 lost albums" No they are far from lost and you can find them, I have literally all of them. Caps lock retard.
Wicked cool🤘 thanks!
It was a long overdue release....I'm really excited that Tony Martin/Cozy Powell Sabbath is on the spotlight again!
Cozy's drumming on the Headless Cross title track is so sick. With all due respect to Bill Ward and Vinnie Appice, Powell is my favorite drummer for the band.
Looking forward to this collection. It's an era of the band I have yet to explore.
I haven’t listened to a whole lot, just songs here and there from these albums and they’re quite good, even songs from Forbidden were good. Headless Cross is definitely my favorite from the Tony Martin era. I recommend the title track, When Death Calls, and Devil & Daughter
The Eternal Idol
Officially Black Sabbath had 5 vocalists. That is what true die hard Black Sabbath know.
Amazing! :)
Great video. My son and I are gonna pop on Headless Cross first when this arrives. He already claimed the poster for his room...lol.
Please frame it
*Please, release a copilation or physical CD or 7'' singles for the people who don't have the money for the full boxset. Long live Tony Martin!*
I'm sure if the box set sells well they will release all 4 albums individually.
@@wrenfield666 I hope so!
I would like hear a new mix of Born again album! I use to hearing the tapes demos on CZcams and his sound it’s very good 👍
One project at a time ⏲️
My favorite from the era is Cross Purposes, with Tyr being a close second. I'm eager to hear the Forbidden remix.
No Eternal Idol? That's the best Martin era record.
That album is sadly owned by Warner, while these were released on a currently defunct record label, so obtaining the rights was probably much much easier. Bummer it's not included, but thankfully you can still listen to it on streaming services; while the other 4 Martin records are pretty much inaccessible to everyone who doesn't own the original pressings.
This is excellent
Odd as it may seem, Forbidden is my favorite album from the Tony Martin era. And I’m totally aware of all the criticisms of it, but hey, I love the songs! Now I can’t imagine how much better it could sound with Iommi personally remixing it. Can’t wait!
We waited so long for this...
Great video
TYR. My fav Sabbath ever.
Actually, the Tony Martin era was originally released on Warner - well, the first album anyway.
only Eternal Idol. All my OG Martin cds (post Eternal) were I.R.S
Tyr is a hellauva underrated LP. Great album, great songs, great production and great Cozy Powell thunder drums.
Eternal idle because of the shining
The eternal idol is my fave martin album.
Favorite recording from the Martin era... Tyr.
The Eternal Idol is my favorite album from the Tony Martin era.
Excellent news
Headless ✝️ is my favorite Black Sabbath album period. I cam hardly wait to get bigger box sets even though I have the entire catalog of Maerin Era.
so glad this is finally seeing the light of day but man, I wish they would have included the Cross Purposes Live album in there as well.
Cool,bro
Eternal idol is one of my favorites.... Rise up to The shining. Such a shame it was not included. I have the vinyl album and it seems like it is a digital recording. Needs to be redone all analog! Mastered by Kevin Gray
Eternal Idol was the first Sabbath album to be recorded digitally. I'd recommend the 2 disc deluxe edition CD. Second CD is the original album with Ray Gillen on vocals.
@@sabbracadabra7503 got born again, eternal idol and mob rules deluxe edition cds! I also have paranoid deluxe vinyl and the remastered version of paranoid is my go to version now most of the time. It sounds different but in a good way.
@@sabbracadabra7503 , and the Gillen demos are superior to the Martin version, IMO.
Finally, dammit! some recognition to one of the greatest singers out there 🍺🤘
Tyr was my first Sabbath album to hear when i was a teenager. When i heared Osbourne for the first time, i though that Martin was far better!! Tyr is my favourite Sabbath album of all time. Yeah i know😅but it is true!
Thanks for pricing the vinyl set 2 cents short to qualify for free shipping. 👍
TYR!
I love Black Sabbath. By the way Sabbath had seven singers and Dehumanizer was released 1992 😉
But he didnt say Dehumanizer was released in 1988, he just said he signed a deal that resulted in Dehumanizer..... 👀
Reprise/Warner in the states I.R.S rest of the world@@PeruggiaVince1911
Ok my bad 😉@@PeruggiaVince1911
10 singers. Ozzy, Dave Walker, Dio, Gillan, Dave Donato, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen, Tony Martin, ROb Halford, Ron Keel
@@thiagoreis2301 thats right, my bad, I forgot Halford, Donato and Keel, sorry. 😉
HELL YES
FINALLY
After the Ozzy "retirement" from the band in 1979, they didn't want to continue as Black Sabbath. Especially didn't want to be called as that when Ian Gillan came (and the album with Hughes was Tony's solo album at the first place). So, it's very relative here in general... )
If you look into Tony Iommi's "solo" album Seventh Star you'll find it goes back to 1984 and they were demoing it under the name Black Sabbath. When that lineup fell apart they did the Live Aid show and Tony intended on reusing the songs for a solo album with 3 different singers which also fell apart.
@Thegamer10113 Black Sabbath 1984 was Tony Iommi ,Geezer Butler ,Bill Ward and Dave Donato. Bill Ward left and was replaced by Bev Bevan then Geezer Butler left and the project was scrapped with Geezer Butler forming the Geezer Butler band and Tony Iommi recording his first solo project that was labeled Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi by recording management later that year Tony Iommi bought Black Sabbath name until 2010 when Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osborne became co- owners of the Black Sabbath name.
My fave with Tony Martin are:
THE ETERNAL IDOL 1987
CROSS PURPOSES live 1994
Of Course they are missing in the package.
i guess they didnt incorporate eternal idol cuz they released a deluxe 2cd edition of that album and it also might be a record label thing cuz rhino probably only has the rights to the IRS martin albums...
Sweet
TYR is a fucking masterpiece, just as the same level as Paranoid or Master of Reality.
Cross Purposes is my favorite from this era, but I need to listen to Headless Cross some more. It might be my favorite after a few more listens.
Regardless if it is a true Black Sabbath album or not, I think Headless Cross is pretty great.
To be precise, the albums are 5 not 4 with Tony Martin including "The Eternal Idol" (1987-Warner Bros) and the first deal with I.R.S. was with "Headless Cross" in 1989 not with "Dehumanizer" (1992- I.R.S. Records). Cozy was not present in "Cross Purposes" (Bobby Rondinelly from Rainbow and Rondinelli was the drummer).
Tony Martin has never been officially fired from Black Sabbath and took part in the recording sessions for the Dehumanizer sessions. Bobby Rondenelli also took part in the Dehumanizer sessions who was recommended by Cozy Powell after a horse fell on him .Cozy Powel and Ronnie James Dio weren't getting along and Dio returned when Vinny Appice was brought in to finish drum tracks for Dehumanizer demo tapes with Tony Martin may or may not exist but the song Raising Hell ended up on the Tony Martin solo album Scream.
Eddie Van Halen also participated in a track of Cross Purposes but i don't remember what in song. I think it was Evil Eye, idk
Edit: eddie participated co-writing the song but Tony played the solo he composed and he said that he couldn't replicate Eddie's solo
While it's a bit annoying that the Tony Martin era isn't fully documented in this box set it's also for pretty obvious reasons. Eternal Idol wasn't released on I.R.S., it was already remastered and it has been available all the time, also on streaming services. It would be nice if there were download codes included in the vinyl boxset but I don't think that's happening.
I hope these albums are also sold individually.
I love the Tony Martin era I really love tyr cross-purposes headless cross turn the idle love them
And Eternal Idol.
Eternal Idol deluxe Ed disc already released on Sanctuary records with Tony Martin and Ray Gillen 2 CD 💿
You forgot the" Eternal, Idol"so far the best of Tony Martin in Black Sabbath....
1.Headless Cross
2.Forbidden
3.Tyr
4.Eternal Idol
5.Cross Purposes
Headless Cross for me, great Album and was a great tour……..
Missing Eternal idol...☹️🙁☹️🙁
Why they left that off in place of godawful "Forbidden" is beyond me.
Because A. It's owned by a different record label. B. It's available for streaming and easy to find on CD. And C. It's hardly a Tony Martin album because Ray Gillen wrote everything and Martin was asked to re-record it note for note.
Dehumanizer was originally supposed to feature Tony Martin on vocals. I wonder if they'll ever release sessions from that, if they exist.
Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osborne are co- owners of the name Black Sabbath and it's doubtful any demo material for the Dehumanizer sessions would be officially released if they exist.
A mi con Ozzi. No he escuchado este Martin Ian Gillan tb porq sus veces son especiales. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can´t understand that the bonus tracks are not included in the LP version, above all in these times that the vinyl is coming back…
Amped!!!
When will the whole headless cross album be on streaming platforms
Those three songs on the CD version is a stinger for vinyl lovers. Any chance of getting them on an RSD standalone release?
Don't Forget Eternal Idol .... Tony's first album with Sabbath! I know he replaced Ray Gillen but still a Great Album!!
Eternal idol already has been released by Sanctuary records with Tony Martin and Ray Gillen
Rhino: How well do you know Black Sabbath?
Sharon: No.
Tony Iommi and Ozzy-Sharon Osborne are 50/50 co owners of the name Black Sabbath
Needs new songs and a live tour including Eternal Idol and 7th Star. It doesnt matter if they are from other record company, they are Black Sabbath too.
Black Sabbath name is owned by Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osborne 50/50 co- ownership and have retired from touring in 2017 the End.
😊cool
the best era of Sabbath together with early dio era.
Please explain why this Tony Martin era Black Sabbath box set omits The Eternal Idol album. If the set were to be complete, I would buy it on vinyl. Thanks.
Headless Cross album is remastered for the Anno Domini box set Rhino Records Vinyl and CD 💿
@@richardhincemonPredictive text changed The Eternal Idol to Headless Cross. I didn't proofread before I posted. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I've edited my post to correct.
@josephweldinger3231 Eternal Idol deluxe Ed 2 disc CD is already released on Sanctuary records with Tony Martin and Ray Gillen and 7th Star featuring Glenn Hughes and Ray Gillen 2 disc deluxe Ed already released on Sanctuary records with Ray Gillen live CD both were previously on WB records not IRS records.
This is the 4 "lost" IRS records albums - Headless, Tyr, Purposes and Forbidden. Idol was never "lost" and is still owned by Warner Bros records (BMG records now own the IRS albums and are releasing this set)
The title of the compilation should really be "ANNI DOMINI (1989-1995)", with the Latin plural of "ANNO" (year), since we are dealing with several LPs over 6 years.
A slap on the wrist to good old Iommi or the person in charge of the Record Company.
Addlepated 😂 idea 💡 🤔 😂
My comments made it on the beginning of the video! 😂😂
"When Death Calls" isn't listed on the track listing on the Rhino pre-order link, is this a goof?
Yes it's included on every website other than rhino and in the unboxing video.
I have the originals, including the japan only extra tracks, but I will get this for the Forbidden Remix. For me, Forbidden is the only bad album in their catalog. Hopefully, the remix changes that.
I wish they included the cross purpose live album/video
Cross Purposes live released by PMI VHS entertainment Co not IRS which is why it's not included . The Eternal idol already has been released by Sanctuary records with Tony Martin and Ray Gillen 2 disc deluxe Ed. Originally released by WB records in 1987. Anno Domini deluxe Ed box set Black Sabbath 1989-1995 is all IRS Records now on Rhino Records and CD .
Easily it’s Headless Cross! Such a killer album with so many rad tracks
It would be great consider Adding Cross Porpouses LIve (Complete) to the set.
Cross Purposes live belongs to another entertainment company
@@richardhincemon In those days was released by the same label I.R.S.

@@craneo2099Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osborne are 50/50 co- owners of the Black Sabbath name and all business decisions are made by them of course a certain woman is also involved and Cross Purposes live has songs that were written by Iommi,Butler,Ward and Osborne which probably is the reason it didn't get released by Black Sabbath and Rhino records.
