I always thought that the coolest thing about Magnus was that he had a blank Optimus inside
Transformers sharing the same base was awesome. I always attributed it to the transformers having the equivalent of ethnicities or races.
Look up Dreamwave Magnus, they incorporated the inner white Prime looking Magnus
yeah, this is something that transformers animated played with a bit with Bumblebee, Wasp, and Cliffjumper, as well as Ratchet and Ironhide.
I wish transformers would play more with this concept, maybe go the Steven Universe route and make it so that each mold was assigned a specific role to play in society.
Well, it's more that Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime are twin brothers.
When Magnum and Orion Pax were blown up they were both rebuilt by Alpha Trion as twin brothers.
Each brother was built as a super robot and armed with tools to lead the Autobots to victory against Megatron.
Optimus was given the Matrix Of Leadership, and Magus was given the Magnus Armor that would complete his look and mimic the design of his original body.
They very VERY rarely directly acknowledge that the two are twin brothers, but in a rebirth sense, they absolutely are.
I mean....they effectively consider Alpha Trion their father, since he resurrected, rebuilt, and trained them both....and they're identical, aside from their special gear.
So they're twins.
Magnus is SUPPOSED to look like a version of Optimus.
Either his internal robot is identical OR his entire complete form is nearly identical.
That's the whole point.
@@anthonyrodriguez8788I agree, if Starscream can be a seeker, then Prime and Magnus can be Convoys, not the same as a Prime, but Orion Pax certainly wasn’t the same kind of truck at first.

I understand why these changes happened but it is so unfortunate Magnus and prime bot lost their vibe of 'fun loving dad' to 'sullen and serious'

I agree with the prime rid ultra magnus being in the magnus tier,it does look really cool.
It was my understanding during the 80s movie, prime and Magnus where actually produced the same. Since prime was designed for a file clerk and Magnus was security, they where the same bot with different armor. That's why the G1 toy made sense to me.
SG Magnus' face IS a skull, part of his history is that Optimus ripped his face off.
So SG Prime is actually bayverse Optimus.
It might be a weird recolour, but I've always had a fondness for Energon Ultra Magnus. Owning the figure, back in the day, I thought he had the right scale for a Magnus. While at the same time, he looked completely different to Prime.
funny enough the Diaclone colors version became its own separate character named 'Delta Magnus'.

All Ultra Magnus is ascetic wise is a more blue and white Optimus with bigger shoulder pads and chest. Even so he’s still an awesome Autobot, he’s quite cool in Prime and Animated.

Fun fact: The reason why Ultra magnus has a similar body as prime is because he's supposed to be a poor man's version of Optimus

I remember when my Grandma got me G1 Ultra Magnus for Christmas years ago. I didn't ask for him or know much who he was. But he was cool! And when I saw the Transformers The Movie Cartoon I was a bit bummed seeing my Ultra Magnus couldn't open the Matrix. But it was fun seeing him in Season 3 and 4 G1.

Transformers having similar builds and vehicle forms makes sense I don’t get the gate for it
Unpopular opinion I really love white and blue ultra magnus maybe because white and blue are my favorite colors
I find it funny how armed to the teeth IDW Magnus is.
He started out from the Military line as a vehicle transport and was transfered to civilian service after he was destroyred and rebuilt the first time and then was drafted into the Autobots when he was part of the three vehicles rebuilt together by Alpha Trion with help from the Aerialbots. He is a better fighter, has better weapons with armor and is stronger than his Brother Optimus as having more battle experience, and he doesn't have a problem with fighting dirty when he needs to unlike Prime. Also, several versions of him have had flight capability. Yes, he is my favorite character.
@@beauxr.benoit1374 Yeah, no, that's all G1 cartoon stuff. IDW Magnus doesn't have any of the "Optimus' brother" or "rebuilt by Alpha Trion" stuff. (Funny enough, though, he _does_ have the "smaller robot inside a larger robot suit" thing, and I suppose _technically_ he _was_ rebuilt by _someone;_ it's just not Trion.)
Cam really needs to get on to the IDW comics stuff, so he has a roughly equivalent idea of what's what to his faves like WFC and TFA and isn't repeatedly coming to wrong conclusions based on one or two panels. I was hoping that this one would have some discussion of Minimus Ambus and his glorious mustache, especially when he showed up twice, but no.
(Also, the "Maximum Ambus" armor from 9:30 isn't a regular look for him; it's literally an extra beefy power armor robot suit that got bodged together because the crew he was with were in some major trouble with a big big fight imminent.)
@@slartimus Thank you, this is a lot more than I know about. My knowledge is mainly from the cartoons and what I watch on youtube videos. And if I say something that needs correcting please tell me. I am an attempting know it all, but I will listen to intellegent mature conversations and information. It has to be stated because a lot of the content that appears here isn't always nice or conpletely user friendly like yours.

For me my top three favourite designs for Ultra Magnus are from IDW comics, Transformers Prime design and Transformers Animated design. Those three are my favourite Ultra Magnus design ever.

I thought magnus toy did come first and that’s why he’s an actual earth vehicle instead of the weird space-cybertronian designs like hot rod or galvatron. I could be wrong tho
Magnus was one of the last figures to be taken from the diaclone line, so yeah, he’s an earth mode because Hasbro decided to use that

Am I wrong or in early production of the 80s movie, wasn't Magnus going to be a super mode for Optimus? I mean that is the basic idea around the diaclone figures, and I'm fairly sure one version of the plot had it as Optimus, instead of extrapolating out a separate character

I wonder if you've seen the Transformers Prime Cyberverse Commander toy. It was a flatbed truck almost looking like the G1 style and the hammer could be used like a gun due to the swiveling handle.

People like to poke fun at how Cliffjumper is constantly relegated to "Red Bumblebee" but I think Magnus has it far worse.
The inherent problem with Cliffjumper's design is that he has the exact same concept as Bumblebee and every other minibots.
Meanwhile Ultra Magnus is a conceptually different toy from Optimus:
Optimus(Battle Convoy) carries his trailer, Magnus(Powered Convoy) wears it.
Huffer/Huffimus Prime and Convoy carry the Trailer*
Ultramagnus IS the Trailer*

I feel like they were kind of harsh or dismissive on a lot of good designs. I’m like wait what? I get that designs close to G1 are usually considered better but there are reasons why RiD or Shattered Glass versions existed. They are different interpretations of the same character without looking just like a G1 Magnus.

Animated Ultra Magnus is always my personal favorite as not only introduced the Magnus Hammer into the transformers lore but he's like a father figure to Optimus Prime and sadly to Sentinel Prime as well.

that concept art you cant place seems to be transtech, you can tell because of the insignia. it was a toyline that was being produced right up to 1999 but got cancelled because of what I like to call the "hasbro JAR JAR collapse"

I loved RID Ultra Magnus. Granted I now know he isn't actually Ultra Magnus. Bit for the the sake of design and character, I love him. Prime is my favorite design though.
