  • Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist in Anthem Arizona, reviews the ReSound Multi-Mic, the Swiss Army Knife of Remote Microphones.
    Website: www.DrCliffAuD...
    Clinic Website: www.AppliedHea...
    The Resound Multi-Mic Remote Microphone is one of the most versatile Assistive Listening Devices on the market. Not only does the ReSound Multi-mic function as a Remote Microphone, it can also be used to stream audio from devices with a headphone jack, tele-loop, or FM system. It is an incredibly sleek device that works incredibly well.

    Hi I am an educational audiologist and I have a few older students now using the Multi Mic with their Resound hearing aids. I have to say the kids love that this mic is so much smaller, lighter and more discreet than an FM microphone, plus they don't need FM receivers attached to their hearing aids. I really like the device and the good battery life while streaming, as you mentioned. The only down sides, and maybe this is more for students in a school setting, is the mic clip has broken off on 2-3 devices within a few months. Resound is great about fixing or replacing them quickly though. Also, some students aren't as good about recognizing when they need to activate streaming to their aids, but this is usually a skill that comes with age/maturity. Otherwise, I love it. The signal seems very stable up to the 70-80 feet range.

    I love this tool, as well, and thanks for the presentation, Dr. Cliff! Quick correction--the system installed in a ROOM that your telecoil 'picks up' and connects with is a HEARING LOOP. I mention this because many people, as here, mistakenly call it a 'telecoil'. The 'coil' is in the pick-up device (your ear equipment); the 'loop' is a wire installed around your listening area (or your neck). They work together to bring the sound wirelessly to your hearing aids and thus your ears!

    I have a Rode Video Mic that I plug into my camera. I also attend a tai chi class. The Multi Mic works great when we’re in the studio. I clip it to one of the exercise straps hanging in front of the class.
    When we meet outside, I have plugged the Rode mic directly into the Multi Mic and it works pretty good. The amplification is not the loudest, but it helps a lot. I’m still playing around with finding a suitable support and location for the mic.
    I now walk around with the multi mic clipped to the bill of my cap. It is so much more of an improvement over the built-in mics in my RICs.
    I get looks, but I don’t care.

    I have resounds hearing aids I recently purchase the Resounds Multi microphone and I love it. I work in public school setting since we all required to wear mask and communication is difficult for people like me. This microphone is God send! I use it to listen to music or audiobooks. One thing thing that really disappointed me that like you said in the video this is a one way microphone. So therefore I can not use it like a headset when doing Zoom meetings online. I was told to use the my rebounds phone clip which I haven’t tested yet but I was able to Bluetooth paired it to my laptop computer. I was able to listen to computer sounds or turn on music. By the way I love your videos they are so informative! Too bad I don’t live in Arizona! I bought my last pair of Resounds from my two favorites audiologists from Carolina Audiology Dr. Keeter and Dr. Mize, they are located in Rocky Mount, NC. I got my first pair of resounds from recommendation of Dr. Keeter who was my primary audiologist.

    I may have a unique circumstance for which I am considering the micro mic. I would very much value your opinion. I have been wearing hearing devices for about 20 years; most recently Resound. I am a very active equestrian and trail ride quite often. Most trails are in wooded areas and are single track (meaning we must go single file). If I am behind other riders, I don't hear a thing they are saying. It's really awful, isolating, and can be dangerous. If the first rider was to attach the micro mic to her clothing, do you feel this would be a good remedy for me being able to hear her communication? Or, would there be too much extraneous noise, i.e. wind, trees, leaves, birds, ruffling of her clothing? I'm desperate to be able to hear the conversation while I am riding 😞.
    Thank you, Sherri

    thank you for this video, I installed the mullti mic yesterday. I found out two negative thing about this device ( sorry) . After the setup the device didn't give any sound. It took me a while to find the problem: I use the Resound ap, and you have to use this as the remote control in order to switch to the multi mic. I was hoping that my hearing aid would automatically switch to the multi mic as I turn it on. If I tap the hearing aid I don't get the multi mic, just the 3 programs installed by the audicien. So basically, you need the audicien to change that. Another thing is listening to music. Compared to plugging in normal earplugs to for instance an MP3 player the multimic gives a terrrible sound, in Dutch we would say like a tin can. It doesn't sound like the original music at all. To end with a possitive comment: my father , who is really deaf , uses this device and when we have a family meeting he is able to hear the conversation when he puts the multi mic on the table.

When in modes like streaming or when clipped to a spouse and one is listening to say tv without using the multi mike and the spouse walks to another room less than 80 feet away can I hear both the tv and the spouse or just the spouse? Does it pick up both or just the one assuming I have depressed the button on the hearing aid? In other words when you pick a mode is what you hear exclusive to that mode?

    Love your videos they have educated me lots. I have Resound BTE that I bought the multi mic to use to plug into my computer. The big problem I discovered is while I can Jack them into the pc it’s MONO only no stereo separation. I play video games that it’s essential that you know where the sound is coming from. This worked perfectly with my Widex interface but paying 325 dollars for the multi mic only to find out it is a mono only device was very disappointing.

    Great video, thank you. I'm actually considering a purchase of a Multi-mic to use with my wife's ReSound hearing aids we bought in 2019. My first question is whether I can use Mult-Mic along with my two ReSound TV streamers (which work great btw). I know I had to pair each streamer to different channels on hearing aids. Do I have to do the same with Multi-Mic?
    Also, will Multi-Mic be the only audio stream when operating? Or will hearing aids combine the two audio streams--from the hearing aids and the Multi-Mic? Thanks, again.

    Cliff, I've two questions about the ReSound Multi Mic. 1) In T-mode, will it pick up the signal from VOX devices (commonly used by tour guides) and broadcast the guide's voice to my ReSound (Linx, I think) hearing aides if the Multi Mic is plugged into the earpiece jack on the VOX? 2) Normally, I have the hearing aides paired with my iPhone so that I can use the phone as a remote, and so that phone calls come directly to my hearing aides. Is there only one pairing slot, so that I'll have to physically repair back-and-forth when I'm using the Multi Mic vs the iPhone? If so, is there a shortcut for that? Thank you very much.

    Since I bought the Multi Mic I have been disappointed because I hear a disturbing echo like I am listening to the announcer in a football stadium. Last night at a restaurant I covered my ears so that my Resound hearing aids internal microphones could not “hear” anything directly and the echo disappeared and the quality of the speech from the Multi Mic was fantastic and indeed amazing. This made me think that the echo I was hearing was from the fact that when I wasn’t covering my ears I was hearing both the sound broadcasted from the Multi Mic and the sound amplified by my hearing aids internal microphones in my ear. Have I missed a setting? Is there some way to have the hearing aids only give me the sound from the Multi Mic when I am using it rather than providing both the sound from the Multi Mic and the hearing aids’ internal microphones. Yes Caroline. You could use the 3.5 mm jack to connect the Multi-Mic to your phone and stream directly into your hearing aids.

      Thank you! I was concerned that while it would send my downloaded music, it wouldn't work as the antenna for the radio which I use a lot more.

    Thank you for sharing this valuable information with us. I have a question from Japan, does the ReSound Multi-Mic use Bluetooth capability? If so, I'm hopeful that it could be used with Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones. I would appreciate any input from you on this point.

    Can I use two Multi-Mics for a long table of friends so I can hear the far side of the people around the table?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  Před 6 lety

      No, only one Multi-Mic can be used at any given time. This would be a better situation for a Phonak Roger device.

    Does it cancel out the background noise when using the headphone jack?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  Před 6 lety +1

      Direct audio input is the cleanest way to hear sound without background noise because the speech/music is completely separate. However, the headphone jack is only for streaming audio directly from a device and will not help you hear an individual, in-person, in a background noise setting. The Remote Mic feature of the Multi-Mic will improve Speech-to-Noise ratio by about 15 dB (HUGE amount), but will never completely get rid of background noise.

    it is impossible to pair the multi mic with my Jabra hearing aids. Hearing aides are great. Multi Mic....not so much!

    Hi, can I use the multi mic as a streamer from my tv... I know that that do tv streamers, but I wondered if this did the job as well, to save buying more appliances. Thanks

      While not necessarily an ideal condition, I put my multi mic near the TV speaker. I am able to hear the dialog from the TV much better without needing to turn up the TV volume, which makes my better half happy.

    Feeling Tired of Resound HA.... Resound ( India ) perhaps does not care about the problems faced by its customers & does not have faith in their feedback. My son has used many HA since 30 years. This is first time that he is using Resound HA - Quattro 7 RIC but feeling frustrated on response of Resound. Left Quattro 7 HA having multiple problems - has been sent for repairs to their Mumbai office 4 timed in last 3 months but issues falling on deaf ears.Delay in service is acceptable but not casual response of company like Resound.
    No body from their Social Media team seems to be worried / concerned about the problems being faced.

    Resound Quatro Linx for me is too large behind my ears! The shape of the device does not lay flat. A shame for a woman who likes to wear her hair back
