  • In picked up the Denon AVR-1804 AV Receiver amplifier for £5 with the gaming haul I got a few weeks back. Upon testing the speakers were humming/buzzing and for that there was DC voltage on the speaker outputs. most of the channels were blown and we test to see if we can get this one working by using components from the good channel until the new components arrive.

    I'll get one for investigation and I think it has the same problem. Partially working amplifiers. Thank you for this video, it will help me a lot.

      @@RetroElectronicRepairOne output transistor 2SB1560 of the of the Centre channel amp was blown. I replaced both 2SB1560 and 2SD2389 with the 2SB1559 and 2SD2389 from an old Marantz receiver. Almost the same only these are 80W (SOA) types and the originals are 100W (SOA) types, voltages are the same. Therefore only 8 to 16 Ohm speakers are possible to keep these alive. Test on a moderate volume level shows no problem with the dissipation.

    Hi ! Great Video , where did you find the schematic for this amp ?

      Thank You. Just search Google for denon avr-1804 service manual. It was either manualslib or elektrotanya

    Hi, where did you buy your resistors ? I am trying to fix a Denon amplifier but I can't find original resistors at good value, I found them between 4-8 €. I think I will go with regular metal film resistors

    • @RetroElectronicRepair

      The resistors I bought from CPC cpc.farnell.com/ They were £1.40 for 20 of them + shipping and the transistors I have ordered from AliExpress.

      @@RetroElectronicRepair thanks, do you have a part number exemple that you ordered ?

    • @RetroElectronicRepair

      These are the ones I ordered but they are out of stock now cpc.farnell.com/multicomp/mcknp01wj022ka10/resistor-wirewound-0r22-5-1w/dp/RE07257. The 4.7ohm resistors (I think that's what they were) I ordered from eBay so no part numbers for those.

    Hello can you help me diagnose my Denon Av Receiver ? My son was playing video games and all of a sudden there’s a loud clacking noise coming from the surround speakers when there’s a loud scene like cars racing there clackle and goes away at lower volumes . I tried another set of speakers with higher watts and it still does it, so I’m sure it’s not that the speakers are blown . Am I screwed here ? I can send you a video to your email ? Please help . I’ve looked on you tube but none seem to have the issue like mine .

      Sorry but I'm not sure what that could be. I'm not an expert at electronics and just do this stuff as a hobby. I only really know some basic stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Unfortunately all the time & effort you put into fixing it is wasted as they go for peanuts now nobody wants the older technology especially when he comes to AV amps ...

    • @RetroElectronicRepair
      @RetroElectronicRepair  Před rokem +4

      That is very true, but this is good practice for me to learn and might help someone fix their receiver. I usually prefer the older vintage amps, they still sell for really good money. It also saves it from landfill and someone might want a bargain cheap receiver. I'm sure I can sell this and still make a bit of profit but we will see. Stay tuned to see if I fully fix it and if it sells. Thanks for watching and for the comment. 👍
