DCS First Successes in the FW-190 A8 "Anton"

- This month I've decided to fly the Anton for the first time seriously. I've got about 5 hours under my belt. This pair of sorties represented my first not-entirely-awful multiplayer flights on the Storm of War server. During these flights I was still struggling with take-offs and landings a bit, but that's getting better now. I think I got lucky with the P51 . . .
My specs:
AMD 3700x, GTX 1080Ti, 32GB 3200 RAM, Auros Pro X570 motherboard, 2TB M.2 drive
I use Warthog HOTAS for main controls
I have crosswind rudder pedals
Track-IR for head tracking, no VR

MUSIC: "Thunderbolt" composed and arranged by me, I reserve all rights to this piece of music.
Hey Phil- yep I got a lot to learn, saw you way up there and thought what do I have to lose.... so used to flying the spit, half the time recovering from low speed stalls and then hi speed stalls! With VR hard to see behind you. I figure I would be swimming on the first pass.
Storm of war is fantastic thank you!!
Very new and refreshing to see the Anton doing well by you!!
Another great upload Phil. I have added the Anton, and P-47D to my stable of WW2 fighters. I found the Dora quick frustrating to get off the deck as well, but I have just added a rudder set to my rig. I am getting more and more excited to fly the WW2 sim when I get a chance... your uploads make things look so much fun! Also my grandfather flew Spitfires in Italy during the war... so naturally we'll fly the Spit more! Would love to see some Jug action soon!
That intro music is really cool haha!
Good job i’m 15 so i’m pretty ignorant about the technics and stuff, that’s why i watch a lot of « experienced » players’ videos to learn. So thank you sir!
Landings nicely done Phil. This will be my reference to taming the 190. I think my approaches have been too steep - good tip.
Good show Phil!
( Konrad Bauer, JG 300, fought alone against SEVEN P-51 with his FW 190 A8 without armours and without the two 20mm cannons outer wings...
He downed three and after was forced to a belly landing ) 😉
I love those high altitude fights...
Good show!
Also, nice to see you flying LW. Come give the K4 a spin sometime.
I don't own the 109... The Anton is the only LW machine I own
@@philstyle why don't u own the 109? Don't like it?
Just a little tip for landing the Anton and Dora, try and match your speed so all wheels land at the same time and you're slow enough to hold back stick, keeping the tail wheel locked, you pretty much need little if any rudder input! :D Hope you're still enjkoying the war birds!
Great stuff man! Keep it going
The one thing I've noticed thus far in DCS that's not quite accurate is p-factor in high performance taildraggers. It goes away when you raise the tail, though the torque effect will remain. But truly authentic ground handling of conventional gear aircraft has always bedeviled simulation developers, even in high fidelity simulations.
Don't think the P-51 was manoeuvring. Looked more like flat spinning out of control and a young pilot panicking trying to rectify the spin! Nice one 😉
PS - if there's any Spits on there I may come against you one day 😈🙂
Amazing flight! Any tips for the new update anton?
Nice work.
Good video,
1:58 I've seen that movie before... and it didn't have a happy end for me :D
16:40 I'm highly amazed of how little fog there is for you. You're definately not flying the same DCS as I do... can't make out terrain details that's more than 10-15km away for quite a few 256 versions lately. Especially not at 7k+ altitude. I hope that gets fixed next week as I'm aware not being the only one with that issue.
19:09 He's definately ponied up :)
25:25 With the upcoming DM he probably would have been shed apart...
I think the Anton is highly underrated with how useable it is as both a Fighter and an Attacker/Bomber. Does DCS made a full simulation with WW2 radios? If so then the usability difference would be quite noticeable with the Anton.
I am a new pilot with this as my forst plane. Any tips or tricks? Especially on landings.
On takeoff and Initial climb did you have your gyro caged ? Noticed no movement in it the initial banks.
How do you avoid radar at least in ww2 scenarios.
turn coordinator portion seems to work though, could be I am expecting something else from the instrument
8:25 "I think I hit a house" lol
Newbie here. Offers are expiring and I have to decide what to pick as first warbird module: 190 a8 or D9?
There is so much difference between D9 and a8 "unfinished" engine about reliability, then a8 is a lot slow in acceleration, compared to his sibling?
I know that a8 turns slightly better, has better armor and armament, more rugged engine, maybe better sound engine.
How much is it slower, and what you suggest?
My favorite is A5 then D9 in Il2 BoS, but I find the A8 there too slow in acceleration. Maybe there is some difference in DCS.
As long as you are on stand alone DCs (and not the steam install) You can try all modules for free for two weeks, at any time.
In anton you close canmopy before take ofg
There is small ladder is extended while cannopy opened.
I like to have it open, thanks.
@@philstyle you may struck something with that ladder and crash
Are you on ''textures low'' ?
Damn, the cockpit looks like directly taken from Fighter Squadron : The Screamin' Demons Over Europe.
(Old and most underrated WWII flightsim IMHO)
All AA is turned off. That's probably why it looks a little blocky to you.
It's certainly not a low-res cockpit. . . you can zoom all the way in to this close, and still it looks good:

@@philstyle Seems to be missing ambient occlusion though.
@@philstyle
Owh.
Ok :-)
All AA off ?
That is something I will try I guess.
Those AA stuff are killing my frame-rates ...
Nice video anyway, as always !
In flight do you apply rudder to make up for the fact that there is no trim? Also how are you arming the bombs. I get the 4 lights on top of the centre console but not the light on the bottom right.
Yes, you have to use rudder all the time to stay coordinated... I get a really sore leg.
More deflection!!!!!!!!
Could you take off with a touch less power? I only just got the Anton but I know I take off in the Spitfire at about 1/3 - 1/2 throttle.
Maybe, but it's much easier with full power in the Anton. I tend to run out of runway without full whack though.
It's not like the spit at all when it comes to T/O.
do you use the footbrakes at low speeds to keep it straight? or just rudder
At low speed/ for taxy-ing you have to. The rudder has little to no effect without air flow over it.
@@philstyle looks like it's not animated ;)
@@AncalimeNL I don't follow . . . 12:11, you can see the left toe brake going it... it is certainly animated.
At 12:27 you can see the left and right being depressed one after the other.
@@philstyle If there just was decent propwash effect on tail surfaces... :)
Then i think i am not looking correctly. I saw the pedals move left and right at those timestamps. Mind i also almost never fly the Anton, certainly since i only have footpedals for a few weeks now. Oversight on my part i think
Drunkest Mustang pilot ever. Not Dixon I'm guessing.
I think he wasn't used to flying at altitude... he was quite wobbly
What´s with that washed out look?
