  • @ozzless
    @ozzless Před 4 lety +3

    CVTs are great. Only people who didn't try Subaru's cvt can say otherwise. It's smoothest transmission in city traffic by far, and you can always go manual mode and shift it like it was manual (though i don't see any need to do that, as it works flawlessly)

  • @IamDoogy

    I’m on my 7th Subaru. My last and present one is the 2018 50th Anniversary Legacy Limited. I like it’s design over the 2021. I will stick with it until I see a New Design. The ‘21 is Bland by comparison to mine. The Harmon Kardon Sound system is incredible, 576 watts 12 Speakers, 2 of which are sub woofers. It’s incredible. I’ve broke 40 mpg on road trips which is very surprising ! I think this CVT IS THE best in the business, although I’d like to see a 7 spd auto transmission in the future. Thanks Sarah, great review !

    I love a good wagon / hatchback myself, which is why I daily a 2015 Outback 3.6r. I do love the new 2020 models, and I’m with you on the CVT not needing the fake shift all sorts of people cry about the CVT not feeling right. So now auto manufacturers put in fake shifts and they tune the CVT to try to keep engine RPMs low. All of that takes away from efficiency but it makes the crybaby auto journalists from the car magazines happy, as well as all the arm chair CZcams viewers that also like to complain about CVTs.

      A properly built and tuned CTV transmission is faster than any manual or auto. It does not shift, it stays in the peak power band and never drops off of boost. What they do in cvt's in production model cars is not the best variant of a cvt transmission at all. If someone was able to tune out the 'shifts' of this xt model, it could be really fast.

    "If you have a CVT...let it act like a CVT..." Hallelujah. I think if we'd all been driving CVT's for the last 60 years, or so when stepped gear transmissions were introduced, there would be loud complaints about the abrupt gear changes they imposed on the driving experience. Personally, I'm not a fan of either CVT's or conventional torque converter AT's. I prefer a DCT. But the good news about CVT's is they're more fuel efficient and offer the potential of better performance than the torque converter alternative. And unlike the latter they can be tuned with software rather than by replacing gear sets. They're by no means perfect but they're getting better. And the bottom line is that their advantages mean they'll be further improved as development continues.

I really like the CVT just with they had the option to turn off the fake shifting, all they do is make the car slower and less efficient. For the life of me I don't know why they don't have an option to turn it off. Bottom line is we have auto journalists to thank for that, they CONSTANTLY complain about CVTs not feeling like a "normal automatic" so the fake shift points are primarily there to shut them up.

    it looks a bit dull, unless you sit in it. the Subaru justy was the first ecvt i think. no matter wat people say, the first cvt car ever was a DAF from holland. but it had rubber belts. there is even a picture of enzo Ferrari, looking underneath this first Daffodil.

    The styling may suck but if the insurance is substantially better and you have a family sounds like a great car

    CVT is a lot better than Audi/VW DSG, so many of those on ebay with gearbox faults.

    Add a 6 speed, limited slip diffs, and some lip to the wheels just to get started on some spirrited driving I say.

    Great review. I have an Ascent and I have the same gripes about the drivetrain. The simulated shifts are driving me nuts!

    It’s a lot of power for what it is. Good to see they’ve upped their game. That CVT though.. gotta get a better transmission. Otherwise, it’s a complete sleeper.
    Great review! 👍🏻

    A sedate sedan on the exterior with an interior having an infotainment center resembling glitter gulch. Okay, so I'm showing my age. I do like the low keyed exhaust. Loud doesn't always translate to fast unless your Richard Rawlings. This could be a nice car but then the CVT and artificial shifts...yeah. Oh well. Thanks for reviewing.

      Mike Bayer supposedly Subaru is using Mercedes beastly amg 4cyl as a benchmark so it’ll be nice to see if that rumor bares any truth to it.

    Nice car but like you say, as a sedan it's a tough sell compared to Toyota or Honda. If I staggered into a Subaru dealership it would be for an Outback or Crosstrek.

    Subaru needs to bring back the LGT with a six speed like the Spec B. I had a 08. Bought it brand new back in 07 after coming back from deployment! Cash.
