This is actually the greatest Lego set I've ever built. I've spent at least 30 thousand dollars over the last 30 years on Legos. I love Legos. And to be fair, I am a crazy about anything that is swords and castles. But honestly this set is amazing. Also, I should say the nostalgia factor is high on this one because I own many of the original Lego castle sets from the '80s when I was a kid.
I too think its the greatest single set they have released in balanced terms of color, size, beauty, complexity and fun build, minis, fun for all ages and sexes, universal appeal etc... etc... my first lego purchase in 25 years? Nothing else they have made really would have got me to dream in lego again...
Absolutely, you're right. This set is incredible. I didn't think much of it when I bought it, but once I started constructing it, I knew it was going to be exceptional. I'm still captivated by its size and all the hidden surprises. If I had received this as a kid, I would have been over the moon. I would have played with it all day. Unfortunately, now it's going to be more of a display piece.

One of the best lego reviews I have ever watched. This set is a gem! I will say the rooms seem small when the castle is opened up you have to keep in mind they have been sliced in half! If you can envision the closed castle the rooms are really decently sized.
Thank you very much, and I agree with your point about the size of the rooms when the castle is opened. While I appreciate the inclusion of many rooms, I do wish there were even more, particularly ones dedicated to the queen.
I appreciate the realistic design of the castle, function over fashion. In real life smooth stone walls are more prestigious than rough.
The defenses are really good. The entrance especially because a narrow ramp is hard enough to seige but the 90° turn prevents charging attacks to the door very little room for a battering ram assault.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this set so much! This set is easily one of my most favorite of my collection. I am most impressed by the clever angles and how many little secrets there were throughout the castle. I think any Lego Castle fan would be lucky to have this. It feels like the complete package I always wanted as a kid.

I actually pulled my old Wolfpack hideout out of storage. it's still in great condition.
Having purchased both the castle as well as the medieval village center, it brings so much nostalgia.
I decided to actually bolster my forces and ordered some extra lion knights and falcons. Doubling the size of my forces.
Having many of the CMF figures from the past as well as current I have, the bard, the Jester, magician, barbarian, basel, 2x goat herder,pink child knight and the falconer. The entire scenery comes to life. Lego really outdid themselves with this set.
Oh, that sounds fascinating. The only old set I have is the Night Lord's Castle and a few smaller ones. I'm considering rebuilding them to add to my medieval display unit.
Until last year I didn't even know cmf existed.. (my previous lego days were in the 80's 90's) so I also bought a bunch for my castle sets. Among others I bought a couple of Basels and made them into 'normal' knights. The falconer is so beautiful! I bought four so I can use them to mix and match the parts with other figure parts. I did not buy the herder, but now it is on my wishlist since I bought the medieval town square. The single goat there needs a friend 😆
One very cool figure that I bought is the Series 20 Tournament Knight. I did not look too hard at the price, it is quite expensive.. 😅

Thank you for the very well-founded analysis. It is indeed an excellent set. I also find the color scheme of the minifigures particularly successful, and therefore the overall ambience.
A tower extension with a throne room and king would be fantastic and would perfect the set even further.

What a great review, incredibly good. That's the way it has to be! I have the 6080 from my childhood here. At the weekend I actually wanted to go to the Lego Store in Cologne to get this fantastic set, but I have to postpone it due to health reasons. I'm really glad that there's something going on in the Middle Ages again, not to mention the BDP. @@emperorsgrandads Rivendell is quite pricey, so I'm undecided about purchasing it. However, it has definitely crossed my mind several times. Let's wait and see how expensive the new Barad-dûr set will be, and then I'll make a decision.

I bought this set when it was $100 off last November but haven't built it yet. I'm hoping in the next month or two to have a castle-building weekend.

This is the best castle ive built and owned. I am quite the ghost and skeleton collector and feel, a ghost and catapult will be an excellent addition.
Adding the ghost would definitely be a very welcome addition to this set.

I think its legos greatest set (my first purchase in 25 years) and can never watch too many review videos about them,... yours is well crafted. I made some changes to mine, I put the jail cells in the catacombs and the tables and chairs in the lower keep area. raised the bell tower and upgraded the ramp up. with the split design too, it is really easy to moc a central court yard and still keep the essence of the main builds... which is just amazing how it all integrates together... would have been so hard to come up with
Thank you very much. Initially, I didn't expect much from this purchase, but as soon as I began building, I realized that this set would be exceptional. I'm still amazed by how all these angles came together and by the multitude of secrets the castle has to offer.
This is/was a day 1 purchase for me. I knew it was coming out so i had 10 months time of saving 40 euros a month.
Never had any hesitation and regret of buying this fantastic castle. Its the center piece of my shelve. Next to medieval black Smith and bricklink Designer Program, castle in the forest.
It soon get the next bdp castle and medieval town square to it. ❤
I have quite a few sets at home, and this one is definitely among the best. It's exceptionally well-crafted and filled with hidden surprises. Unfortunately, the Medieval Town Square doesn't quite match up to this one in terms of quality, but they do complement each other well in terms of aesthetics.

Which set you recommend home alone or lion knight castle
I think I would prefer the castle because Home Alone doesn't have the same appeal in the summer; it's more suited to a winter village scene.

Hi Lukas, you know, after assembling the Medieval Town Square, now I’m looking at the Lion Knights Castle, and your video comes! I think our thoughts are quite the same lol. However, finding a space to put this humongous yet majestic castle is a big challenge. My bookshelf is already full of Lego sets now. :P

There are instructions on rebrickable which are great and allow display on normal shelves and a lot more flexibility! I would check it out :-) I plan to get this next double points build the original then the rebrickable one after :-)

I think this is a great toy, but a bad display piece. In similar price, i think I woulkd buy the Rivendell. Better display. But this castle give a fun feeling that rivendell doesn't give.
Fair enough! I dont have the rivendale set, but I would likely buy a 2nd of this over the rivendale. (having 4-5 factions of minis just has endless play value, vs the one side of the hobbit that pretty much replays a couple of scenes with no antagonist. )

I also don't have Rivendell, and I'm considering buying it once LEGO releases its next Lord of the Rings set. However, I think the castle is also an excellent display piece. Rivendell is probably more visually striking because it has more colors and is wider than the castle. In the end, the castle is predominantly gray, so it might not catch everyone's attention.
Im old enough that I display things but the imagination of my mind makes the adventures and play. not so much actually playing. maybe I could do some stop motion!

I personally think the grey is a good place for the eyes to rest, but still full of various forms and textures to make it interesting, and then the colors really pop.... riven dale though is also spectacular in its elements, how they made the gazebo is just brilliant

I love your reviews, but find that non franchise lego simply doesn't make the shelf when space starts becoming a problem. Also my brother in law has this, and i think it doesn't age well. Just my opinion though, if someone gave me one for free, certainly wouldn't give it back.
I'm not entirely sure about it. I believe this castle makes a much better display piece compared to any of the Disney sets like Hocus Pocus or Snow White. However, when comparing Rivendell to this castle, I think Rivendell would be more eye-catching.
@@lukasthebuilderWe were lucky enough to be able to get rivendell last year. From bag 2 onwards its profoundly in a league of its own in every possible score for a lego set. Truly on another level. Looking forward to barad dur this year. Okay so its better than the smaller disney sets, fair point. We already have the disney castle and ucs hogwarts... Anyway, its good to know if we ever get it (times running out...) it stands strong for what it is.
To each their own. I personally prefer Lego IP over licensed sets. I hate licensed sets and what Lego's overreliance on them has done to the brand. Because of this, Lego is not the same anymore. So, I treasure the few times Lego still wants to create original ideas instead of parroting little Timmy's favorite superhero for the thousand and tenth time. But again, to each their own.
@@SilverDreamweaver Yeah fair enough. See i only played with lego as an afol, and only about 6 years now. Nostalgia has a literal zero effect on me. I started with the adult targeted sets as well.. treehouse.. and very much liked those.. but after having found star wars, jurassic, and now harry potter (to replace star wars).. compared tho what those collecting experiences offer, the generic lego pales in comparison to me anyway. Again, zero nostalgia. Its nice to see other people happy about lego that im not though, its both dodging a bullet and also enjoying a theme without actually having to own it.
