Lol when you did the "sad and they think you're fine, and you're not" cut I burst out laughing. You manage to actually pull off this style of humor that sooooo many civ content creators kinda try hard and fail at
I always forget that Simón's units all have +1 movement. Every time I spawn close to him, I figure "I will deal with him when he gets here." And every time he catches me with my pants down less than 20 turns later. I don't know why I keep doing it.
Anyway, great idea for a challenge and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the end results!
hey yeah! the ai raided a clan I was standing in my last game too! Does the ai cheat? yes they do!
I've done this challenge before, even with Khmer! I was lucky enough to spawn next to Granada and Nalanda, who basically provide better science tile improvements than Gilgabro. I basically went to the moon by debating buddha in my Mahaviharas, then chilling out in my luxurious alcázars, then recruiting every relevant great person because they were just that impressed with my dank aqueducts.

I have a really hard time accumulating science on higher difficulties because of the aggresive AI with their settlers emitting loyalty pressure so I'm interested where this is going
it can be tough! for me you'll notice in this game the amount of cities that i settle as well as utilizing my other means of income i.e. culture/faith~

Old comment thread I know, but I’m curious if I’m the only one who heavily undervalues campuses. Unless I get the opportunity for really nice ones, I rarely build more than a couple in my non hard science win deity games. I find that I often stay competitive enough in tech from secondary yield gains (religion, trade bonuses etc.), and there is just so much that you’re trying to fit in to the first two eras or so. I’d rather get my trade economy, religion, and key infrastructure and wonders down, and late game I have a developed enough empire to “catch up” in time that I’ve rarely found myself wishing I had campus spammed pre industrial. Idk, maybe it’s that I find science way more tedious than just focusing culture, which I think is almost always a solid secondary win con; if not the primary.
I did this with Ethiopia. Building groves and preservation that overlapped. Won a science victory with only 5 city's.

You're a Civ genius
The easiest way to win a science victory without a campus is to play suleyman on a map with a lot of water and just use the barbary corsair to pluder yourself to a science victory. Works with only one city and no campus.
I just plain don't believe that early scout is better than early slinger on Deity. Animal husbandry into archery then maybe whatever it was you were planning. The exception is like a spaced out map that an early AI rush isn't a real threat, which it usually is, or the barbs ruining your plans to use a builder or settle your next city.
City states reefs geothermal spots iron and a few more things thankfully can provide science so it not impossible.
This man always threatens to throw up, but never follows up on it SMH

Explain to me what just happened at 5:44, how is that possible? How can he do that when you're standing on the tile?
he has extra movement since he's Simon - and since he's the AI he can kind of "ghost" pillage the tile without actually having to stand on top of it. they can also kill the barb camp by doing that as well. you can't do that as a Human player, but the AI can cause cheating haha

yeah it's happened a few times to me before, it's only with units that have extra movement so scouts/cavalry - or someone with extra movement like Simon

@@boesthius 😂 your build order was on purpose???holy site first w khmer ALWAYS!!! slingers for defence till site can get dropped or at least scout close w warrior and immediate monument if going for void. City spam w monumentally in classical ga. Scout can get built directly after site is finished. If no GA then at least you'll have religion and decent cap for med GA.
@@boesthius definitely should've forgot the dele 😂 that was the real issue... Khmer doesn't really need campuses imo... "Sci pop" and FTW will feed science easy. Khmer can do damn near anything 😂
