  • A beautiful spring morning in the Wiss with a little bonus jump sesh. Keeping it socially distant and keeping it early to avoid the hikers. This is like my fourth or fifth Wiss video and it has about half new stuff and half old hits. Trails are so good right now...I hope everyone is healthy and getting a chance to get out in the woods and get their heads straight.

    For those just finding out about the Wiss...
    The Wissahickon Valley Park, or the Wiss as us locals call it, is home to the best mountain biking in Philadelphia and likely one of the best urban trail systems in the US. Located just a few miles from downtown Philadelphia, The Wiss has nearly 30 miles of single and double track that comprise a loop which follows the walls of valleys created by the Wissahickon and Creshiem Creeks. There is terrain for all skill levels ranging from recently built flow to more old school rocky tech with everything in between. It's super easy to navigate, as you can always drop down to Forbidden Drive, a wide gravel path that follows the creek from one end to the other, which allows for a bail out to get back to the car.

    Yeah buddy! What's up Sam? It was fun watching that trying to figure out which parts you were riding on. The Cresheim drop in was nice. Love that log drop followed by that stone brick gully with the kicker rock to the left. Hit that and gap right over it.

    try Freedom Bike Park behind the Shawmont School. They are starting to build some jumps and there is a bowel area that is not finished. Trail builders are needed, It's on water Dept property and they don't seem to mind.

      Nice, they'll get you sorted! The bike I'm riding in this video is my 2019 Giant Trance Advanced 2. It's pretty much stock except an i9 rear hub and I bumped the fork out to 160mm from 150. In some of my videos I'm riding a bike with green handlebars and that's a transition trans-am steel hard tail with a 160 Pike fork. I recommend both bikes highly. If you're in the market, I've heard really good things about the trance 29er and think it'd be great for local trails.

    Haven’t done these trails yet. Where is a good place to start? Easy to get lost?

    • @PhillyMTB
      @PhillyMTB  Před 3 lety +1

      Wiss is very easy to navigate. The creek runs though a valley with a gravel path that follows it. The mtb trails are all on the upper walls of the valley on both sides which loop around the entire park with constant connections back down to the gravel. Where to start depends on where you're coming from. Valley green parking lots are right in the middle of the park and a great home base, but since I'm coming from center City Philly, I park over by blue bell park as it's closer for me.

      @@slappadabass3290 not really at the wiss. There's a little mtb specific skills section over near the Rittenhouse town trail head (closest to the art museum) which has a drop and some jumps with berms but that's about it.

I remember riding past that area when I rode from Lock 60 in Phoenixville to center city. I’ll have to keep this place in mind looks awesome. Been riding Mount Penn a lot lately cause it’s only 15 minutes away and falls within the essential travel bull shit.
