But especially with investors that are there just for money, they might not understand all the decision or just don't care, since what they are doing is playing stocks game. They are just going to jump ship if those risks fail or they might even interfere to put some cutthroat CEO in place to cut costs, which will short term bring things up.

From Valves point of view, everything about this is fucking genius. They can reuse almost everything they already manufactured (new base model is basically just stock of the old models) and dont break compatibility with most stuff most people care about and make the experience a lot better for everyone. Something close example would be sony, apple devices. They’re always simple and low on spec sheet value but the value increases exponentially when you actually use it.
Similarly the screen is low res because it’s native resolution the APU run games on. You won’t get blurry look on 1080p or 1440p unless they make custom 1600p screen which would require re engineering and make device more expensive.

You can install windows on Deck. It’s super easy. I didn’t even have to wipe the internal storage. It runs off a SD card. The only problem is SD cards are slow AF like an old ass laptop HDD. It makes the Steam deck feel slower than it really is. But I was able to play Starfield on it. It was playable at the lowest settings if you don’t mind 20 to 25 FPS.
Using windows is not so bad on Deck it opens up games that are not supported by Steam OS and Game Pass games. That’s how I played Starfield, through Game Pass.

One thing I think needs mentioning is the significance of the 90 Hertz screen, not because a lot of games will be running at 90, but because a lot will be running at 40 or 45. The Steam Deck community has largely embraced the "golden 40" as a frame and refresh rate that is not that much more intensive to run than 30, but goes halfway to 60 in terms of frametimes, making it the optimal experience for games where hitting a native 60 isn't possible.
The only problem is, you're downlocking the screen to 40 hertz for it, and so if a frame of those 40 is slightly late, you're waiting a whole 25 ms of stutter for the next one, compared to just 16.6 ms if running 30fps @ 60 hz. With a 90 hertz screen running at 80, that 40fps frame coming in slightly late is gonna halve that stutter time to 12.5 ms, which is HUGE in practice. Great choice!

If you want to play the latest 2D indie titles on your “old” console you can! And you can for a long long time. That’s a big difference compared to traditional consoles where development stops usually within the year for most major titles and after a few years the digital store shuts down. I mean It may sound silly, but I play most of my games off... SD card on my steam deck. And it is actually hard to notice difference in loading times & performance vs internal storage. Valve did some black magick here. I am more likely to buy some insane 1TB ultra fast SD card tbh lol. But if You don't have a Steam Deck and you want one badly - then of course the new version seems to be again a killer deal.

I really don't understand why people think 720p (or in this case 800p) on a less than 8 inch screen is going to look bad. At home I have a 34 inch Acer Predator X34 that is 3440x1440. We also have a 27 inch 4K monitor as well. If you look at pixel density calculators my monitor is at about 110 pixels per inch, the 4K is at about 120 pixels, and an 8 inch 720p monitor is at above 180 pixels. Anything smaller would just be even higher. A small 720p device has higher pixel density than a 27 inch 4K monitor, and everyone preaches about how dumb those are for gaming. "Lower the resolution to 1440p and get better FPS!", but then complain that their phone is only 1080p and their handheld is only 800p.
These portable devices aren't 24 inch monitors, don't treat the resolutions like they should be. Good on Valve for lowering the resolution to a point that games can run at a decent FPS.
